  1. For every 5 handicapper who thinks all thats keeping them off the tour is time and money there are 5 rich kids who practice and play and get lessons everyday and they never make it. I consider myself a pretty good golfer and have played with guys who have played on the PGA Tour and its sick how good they are. Im not saying the friend wont make it, because its definitely possible. Time and money and athletic ablilty are very important but if his head isnt right he wont even get close. I think Bobby Jones said "Golf is played mainly on a six-inch course; the space between your ears." SO TRUE!!!!!!! I hope he makes it!!!
  2. Heres what works for me when attempting a flop. 1. Put the ball toward the front of you stance. 2. Have you hands BEHIND the ball. Opposite of a forward press. This will help keep the loft thru the swing. 3. Maybe take your back swing a little outside more that normal, like Furyk. I bet if you practice this a few times berfore your round you will see improvement. You just need to get a feel for how hard to swing for your intented distance. Anyway, thats what works for me.
  3. LOL...Your a good counter. I take out one club if I need to....usually the 52 or 2 hybrid depending on the course.
  4. WOW...I read every post in this thread. Never understood why some members get so mad about repeat threads. Especially when they take the time to post on it instead of ignoring. Anyway my take on the gps!!! I have known several people with skycaddie and other brands and have been to courses with the gps systems on the carts. I have a range finder and it is not uncommon for me to find a 8 to 10 yrd. discrepancy between gps and my range finder. I have played with 2 guys that have sky caddies and they have stood side by side and had 4 yrd discrepancies. Now 4 yrds isnt that much, but it was surprising. Im not even sure how its possible but I witnessed it. And just so you know I have checked the accuracy of my range finder with other range finders and its spot on. I think for most golfers +/- 4 yrds isn't going to matter, especially outside of 150. My preference is the Bushnell with PinSeeker technology. Easy to hit the flag and has been very durable and reliable. I think either is better than guessing, especially on new courses or ones with minimal yardage markers.
  5. Thanks for your reply!
  6. Recently booked a trip to Hilton Head for early June. We will be staying at Sea Pines Resort and playing Harbour Town, The Ocean Course, and Palmetto Dunes-Fazio Course. Anyone have experience with the courses or resort that might help make the trip more enjoyable?
  7. I have 3 wedges as well and usually decide between the 52 and 2 hybrid, depending on the course, on which I will take out of my bag. If its a short course, I will take out the 2 hybrid, if its a long course or one with a lot of doglegs off the tee I will take out the 52. I think its good to have 15 clubs and let the course choose which you remove.
  8. Have a trip to Hilton Head booked for early June. Playing Hilton Head, Ocean Course, and Palmetto Dunes-Fazio. Should be a fun trip.
  9. Just snapped my hybrid over my knee on Monday...it had it coming!! Watch out though, graphite shafts are tough and it might end up biting back.
  10. Bottom line is most golfers, pro or am, dont average 300. Many can hit it 300 yds. Key word is average !!! Most pros only swing at 85% most of the time and many could add 15 or 20yds to their average drive. But they understand accuracy is more important than length.
  11. I have had 5 in a row once, and 4 in a row several times. Not so impressive if you consider it was on a 9 hole muni that is very short.
  12. Played again yesterday, wind was blowing 20 again. Shot -1 (71) and was 2 over afrer 3. Its a pretty easy course so Im usually happy with anything under par. Playing again Sat. and Sun., and have a tournament on Monday. Dont think there is such a thing as to much golf for me!!!!!
  13. Thanks for clearing it up. No more illegal drops for me!!!
  14. Helps a bunch. Thanks for your response.
  15. I think you may have it!!! I have probably played over a 1,000 rounds of golf and should have probably known this but this is where I get confused. It says between the hole and the poing of entry, I always thought it was from where you previously hit from and point of entry. I have heard many times the line of flight of the ball and I guess that dosent come into play. That is what I meant when I said "drop to the right of the hazard." Because it hits a tree and kicks left so I would get the line the ball took from the tree to the hazard. I know the 2 clubs dont come into play if its marked yellow, which is why I was confused. It should probably have red stakes along the side anyway!!! So another question.....do you ever get to use line of flight and when does that come into play or have I been taking illegal drops my whole life?
  16. To me this is one of the hardest shots in golf. Growing up in South Texas I have had to play off hard pan my whole life. Its not a problem when I have a full swing, I actually like it, but on 3/4 swings down its difficult. What works for me.....put the ball in the back of your stance and use as little wrist action as possible. If I focus on keeping my head still I usually can make clean contact with the ball first and hit a solid shot. It also helps to have at least one sandwedge with very low bounce. Especially if you play on a lot of coursed with hard pan. I have a 61 degree with 4 degrees of bounce that makes it much easier.
  17. Man after reading some of these post I feel like a big sissy. I usually dont play if its below 50. And I really dont like to play when its below 55 and windy but that still allows me to play 3 or 4 times a week all winter long. If it gets cold here it will get into the 30s for a day or two then warm back up. I guess I would change my tune if it stayed colder throughout the winter but I truly cant imagine playing in the 30s......yall are tough as nails.
  18. Thanks!! Never know....should always have someone to compete against.
  19. Played yesterday for the first time this week and shot 73. Wind was blowing about 25 so I was fairly happy. Broke even on bets so cant complain there either.
  20. When I was in college playing a lot of golf I had blades and loved them. When I graduated and started working the rounds became few and far between and they soon bacame my worst enemy. I am playing 3 or 4 times a week now and still have no desire to go back to blades. I play Callaway xforged and love them. I personally feel that as long as your playing a forged cavity back club you will get plenty feel and not have to sacrafice the additional sweet spot. After saying this I admit there is no better feeling than hitting a blade in the sweet spot. Bottom line is you need to buy what you really want because if you dont you will second guess yourself on every bad shot. Do your research and be 100% when you decide and you will love either.
  21. Here are the rules...If a ball is in or is lost in a water hazard (whether the ball lies in water or not), the player may under penalty of one stroke: (a) Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or(b) Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or (c) As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole. The ball may be lifted and cleaned when proceeding under this Rule. It dosent really make clear the answer for my original question.
  22. Another good suggestion is to draw a line on your ball, like the one the pro v's have, and line it up with the hole. Then place your putter down on that line. This takes a lot of the guess work out. It takes a bit to get used to but after a few rounds and some practice it works great.
  23. I always steal a little of my wifes firngernail polish remover. Works great and is always there.
  24. A lateral hazard is a hazard that you dont have to hit over. Lateral hazards run the direction of the hole, and should be marked with red stakes. Water hazards should be running across the hole and would have to be crossed to get to the green and should be marked with yellow stakes.
  25. Thats what I though but was told different from the guys I play with. Thanks for the response.
