Is there golf after rotator cuff surgery?
oudrees replied to cnl390's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A good recliner is a must. I think I slept in mine for a month and even when I moved back to the bed, I had pillows surrounding me. PT is going to be hell for a little bit but is a requirement. Bare down and stick with it. -
I got this in an email today and thought they were pretty funny, yet true LAW 1: No matter how bad your last shot was, you should have Inner Peace knowing that a worse one is yet to come. This LAW does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime. LAW 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former. LAW 3: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water. Expensive clubs have been known to be partly made with this most unusual natural alloy. LAW 4: Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree is breaking a LAW of the universe and should be cut down. LAW 5: The higher a golfer’s handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor. LAW 6: A golfer hitting into your group will always be bigger than anyone in your group. Likewise, a group you accidentally hit into will consist of a football player, a professional wrestler, a convicted murdererand an IRS agent – or some similar combination. LAW 7: All 3-woods are demon-possessed. Your Mother in LAW does not come close. LAW 8: Golf balls from the same “sleeve” tend to follow one another, particularly out of bounds or into the water. See LAW 3. LAW 9: The last three holes of a round will automatically adjust your score to what it really should be. LAW 10: Golf should be given up at least twice per month. LAW 11: All vows taken on a golf course shall be valid only until the sunset. LAW 12: Since bad shots come in groups of three, your fourth consecutive bad shot is really the beginning of the next group of three. LAW 13: If it isn’t broke, try changing your grip. LAW 14: It’s surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you’re lying 8. LAW 15: Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his own haircut. LAW 16: Non chalant putts count the same as chalant putts. LAW 17: It’s not a gimme if you’re still 4 feet away. LAW 18: The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. LAW 19: You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time. LAW 20: Every Time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make a double or triple bogey to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. LAW 21: If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Dustin Johnson does, simply try to use it to lay up just short of a water hazard. LAW 22: There are two things you can learn by stopping your back swing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove. LAW 23: A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours. LAW 24: Don’t buy a putter until you’ve had a chance to throw it.

Is there golf after rotator cuff surgery?

Kobe Bryant was cleared for full basketball activity today, 9 months after his rotator cuff surgery if that helps at all. Looks like the recovery is a little longer than I thought. -
Is there golf after rotator cuff surgery?

I had surgery to repair two tears in my labrum in my shoulder in June 2013 and didn't play golf till April 2014. It took 4 months before I was cleared for full activity and it was still really weak and throwing a ball wasn't fun, so I didn't try swinging a club. After 6 months, I was into winter and didn't really try. I would guess you could be back playing around 6-8 months. I think rotator cuff is a similar recovery to labrum repair. Just make sure you really take PT seriously to get back quickly. My insurance cut me off of PT early and I still have reduced Range of Motion in my shoulder. -
I'm figuring out that smart thing slowly. On my last round I shot a 92, along with not losing a ball off the tee I played smarter iron shots. On a par 5, instead of trying to hit it 180 over water out of thick rough, I layed up and bogied. Normally I would of gone for it, into the water and maybe tried again.

I'm 2 months into making changes from My Swing thread and hit more fat shots than I did before I started but they are my only mistake for the most part. Before it was everything going wrong, now at least I know what it is.

It gets worse before it gets better with the swing changes. Trust the guys that know what they are talking about and Change the Picture

So I played pretty well on 9 holes Tuesday, used my driver when I could but some holes it just didn't make sense. I did still one OB and push one OB with the driver, those were the only 2 bad shots I hit with it but that really adds up a score. On one hole, I dropped my 5 iron on the green from 198.....it was amazing coming from me. I also birdied a par 3 from 158 that I dropped within 10 feet so things are definitely coming around with the irons. My putting was much better also. I took some hints from the putting topic with playing the ball more forward in my stance and not accelerating. With the driver thing, I was looking ahead to the course I am playing Saturday and the yardages. Once again I am on the white tees due to handicap. I see no reason to even risk my driver. It is playing for money, so that is why I am going for low scores. If I can hit my irons 210-220 off the tee, the furthest I would be out on approach is 140. Looks like I'll concentrate on driver at the range and try to score with irons on the course. I feel bad playing these yardages, but if they allow me...I will take the advantage. Hole Yardage Par 1 446 5 2 122 3 3 251 4 4 441 5 5 274 4 6 350 4 7 136 3 8 339 4 9 291 4 10 413 5 11 339 4 12 110 3 13 291 4 14 319 4 15 318 4 16 287 4 17 129 3 18 401 5

Shot a 44 from the Blue ( 6118 yards ). Had a nice birdie on a par 3, a par on a sand save and a triple when I found OB by 2 inches on one of my drives. It started raining on the end, so I rushed and flubbed a chip for a double on the last hole.

I'm between my PW and 9 right now from 150. Last night I was flying the green from 140 with my PW. PW is around 145 and 9 is around 155

And I was just pretty excited today. These are my last 9 rounds with this group with money on the line so you can see why I was pretty pumped about this improvement. It also wasn't the driver alone that improved as my ball striking with my irons was much improved. That has been my focus on the range lately. 108, 110, 100, 105, 104, 119, 103, 104, 92

I definitely know I have a ceiling without my driver. Today was more of an experiment than anything. My group I am relied on for team games and there is money involved. Going for a score is what I need to do for them. I'll work on my driver on the range and on more casual rounds. I'm not finished improving, I know it may of come off that way. With this group, I play on white tees because of my hdcp, making the courses around 5500 yards. I don't gain any strokes moving back because I'm maxed out. Once I get my hdcp down and they move me, I'll worry about distance more with them.

Now that I moved to Florida and made improving my golf game a priority, I could see myself getting to 40 rounds / year. I won't be able to play as much in the winter as I would like because of crowds and cost. I still have 2 young kids and a budget to keep in mind.
-
I have a 4 hybrid. I was hitting my 4 iron further and with more control today so I stuck with it. On Tuesday I managed to put my hybrid OB twice off the tee so I bagged it today too. It was an experiment today to see what would happen. To get low 80's, I'll eventually have to bring the driver back into play but for the courses and tees I'm playing now I think I could get to an 85 without it.

So my Saturday group keeps stats for everything and he put together a report of since the group started. My father in law for instance has played 230 rounds with this group in the 4 years he has lived in Florida. He has played a bunch of rounds outside the group but that got me thinking about myself. I have been playing golf for about 20 years and before this year, I would guess I only averaged 5 rounds a year. That's 100 rounds in my life, that got me thinking of how young my golf game really is. I have played 15 rounds since moving to FL 4 months ago and that is going to keep going up. It got me thinking of how much golf do you guys really play a year?
-
And on top of the good score, one of the guys asked me if I had been taking lessons because my swing and game looked a heck of alot better so that is a tribute to you guys :)

Well I seemed to have a little break through today on the course. I shot 48/44 for a 92. I left the driver in the bag and went with the 5 iron or 4 iron off the tee. I was managing to hit my 4 iron 230 with a slight draw....it felt so good. I still would miss greens slightly left, right, or short but I had alot more GIR and putts for par than usual. I think for the rest of the season I might just try and score with my irons and practice with my driver. It's amazing the difference in score when you keep it in bounds. Didn't lose a single ball. The few changes I have made in the past couple months due to you guys has made a huge difference. The few bad shots I hit, I can tell I didn't shift my weight so that is still my working point. With my group of 12 today, I won low net, 1 KP, and 1 skin. We missed winning the team game by 1 stroke.

Well due to my handicap, I get to play from the white tees with my Saturday group. The course was 5513 yards today from the white. My distance should have me further back, but I am maxed out on strokes on the white so moving back wouldn't gain me anything. I was hitting my 4 iron 220-230 off the tee, so I it was leaving me decent distance in from there. Normally my big problem is losing balls off the tee and being greedy on shots. I tried to play smarter today.
-
I finally did it, I went 48/44 for a 92 today. I left my driver and woods in the bag and went 5i or 4i off the tee. I didn't lose a single ball and had 1 bad tee shot that ended up with a triple because I tried making it up in one swing. If I could get the short game figured out, I would of been in the low to mid 80's
-
You had a hole in one and you didn't lead the story with that?!?!?!?!?! Congrats!!!! Congrats on the 91 also.

I technically live in Lady Lake but work in The Villages. My in-laws live in The Villages and my golfing is on The Villages courses.

Where in Ohio? I just made the move from Cincinnati to north of Orlando in May. Spent all 34 years of my life in Ohio, so it was a big move.
-
An 8 putt!?!?! I would of quit after 4 probably
-
I think on my next round, I am going to keep the 3 wood and driver in the bag and just go hybrid off the tee to see if I can eliminate the 8 and 9's I occasionally get. Not many of our Par 4's are over 400, so if I can go 210 off the tee and can reach the green with a longer iron or hit my 3rd shot on and get bogies. Until I can get the driver to where it is in bounds on every swing, it is running up my scores. One swing will be perfect and the next will be OB.
