Rangefinder or GPS....wheres the best money spent?
Damien45 replied to Dub's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a UPro and would keep it, however: I am in the Navy and travel. I may play golf in another country that isn't supported. If it is supported, I may not be able to get an internet connection to update my UPro. If I knew where I was going before being deployed, then I could maybe preload it. That doesn't happen. SO, sadly, I am gonna look at a laser scope. At least that way I will never have to worry about internet connection and/or supported course. -
I own a UPro as well. I love it! The images are awesome. If you use the basic mode you get all the information you are looking for, just no sat image flyover/shot location. That feature comes in really handy. The only down side (which I am finding with all of the GPS units) is that since I am in the Navy and travel, I may end up at a course that isn't supported (yet). OR, if it is, I may not be able to update my UPro because I can't get internet connection. That is just a real bummer for me. I might look into a laser for that sole reason. Other wise, I absolutely love my UPro.

Hello from a girl state champ from Iowa!
Damien45 replied to Seven Iron's topic in Welcome, Everyone
Wow, so I didn't reply quickly the first time (intimidated by better player lol) because I didn't want to come off as....well, everyone else! lol Seriously though, I am now curious about the clubs you use too. What sort of things helped you improve? Granted you started when you where 5, but what do you remember about starting out? -

the greatest wedge ever
Damien45 replied to americanfighter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Wow.....So IMHO there is a club that offers the best of both. The MP-T Series wedge from Mizuno has the forged feel and control with the C Grind Sole. The C Grind doesn't reduce the bounce of the club as much as it changes the interaction of initial impact with the turf. I spent some time switching between the Spin Milled Vokey and the MP-T. I got great spin with both, but a better consistancy with the MP-T due to the C Grind. Hit wedges that are not C Grind into some less than desireable lies and you can see the result once that stubborn clump of grass grabs the heel. We all read about the Pro's and their golf equipment. How many have taken a wedge and had it ground along the heel to improve that interaction at impact? If you've read Stan Utley's "Art of the Short Game", he talks about that grind. Well that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! -
I must say that the responsiveness of the 52s was amazing. Just the slight change in grip (weak-neutral-strong) had the desired effect (fade-straight-draw). Plus, the accurracy and consistancy was such a confident builder!

So far I agree with everything posted. I just wanted to ad my opinion/suggestion. Take a good look at the Mizunos. Go to a demo day and let the people there know what you are looking for. Mizuno is just about the only company that will build you a set of clubs based on what you want/need. If you want the Clk Fli Hi 3 and 4, MX-200 5 and 6i, MP 52 7-SW then that is what you would get. If I had the option to make a set like that when I first started, I would totally hop on it. It provides solid forgiveness in the long game, pin-point accurracy in the scoring clubs, and serious feedback across the board. Plus, at a Mizuno fitting, they will help you find the right clubs to prevent gaps from your driver to 5i. That being said...On your list, I have plaid the S9's. They are great clubs. I didn't play them long since they are designed to fix things that I didn't need fixing. I have hit the Clevelands that have been mentioned. I liked them more than the X-20's. In the end, it's about feel. Once you have a solid list of clubs to look at (like you do), start hitting them until you narrow down the ones that don't feel right to you.

I just ordered a set of the 52's with the MP Fli Hi in 2-4. I can't wait to get them! I like the cavity of the mid-long irons and the almost blade like of the scoring irons. I am hoping these will help improve my game. Every time I have hit these clubs, I was able to work, aim, and control them with consistancy. As for the ball, I agree that the Bridgestone 330 RX is a great choice!

Nice! I had a similar one to your second. I was on a water protected Par 3. I miss hit it and it bee lined for the other side of the water. It dropped just before the far "shore". The way it plopped into the water I was sure it was gone. I guess it didn't taste good because it shot out like it was sour! It just plopped right onto the rough on the far side, happy as a clam!

The diversity of courses that FourPutt is talking about is absolutely true! Unless you've hit a thousand shots from every time of lie there is, questioning it can effect the result. Knowing your results before you swing can make a difference. The other side of the problem is the mental pressure of tournament play. When we hit the course to play for fun, we want to relax and shoot well. When someone enters a tournament the feel they NEED to shoot well. Hence, less relaxed which can cause changes in your tempo and game.

The focus at the lower power swing is contact. True, solid, consistant contact. Which comes from true, solid, consistant swing fundimentals.

Titleist AP2 vs. Mizuno MP-52 vs. Nike VR
Damien45 replied to d373rm1ned's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My vote is on the Mizuno's. I just ordered a set of the 52's myself. I have hit the Mizuno and Titleists at a demo day, Nike wasn't present. The thing that sold me was the sole and shaft selection of the Mizuno's. There was a shaft that could turn the ball flight into exactly what you wanted. The sole of the club was clean when it came to being just a little off on contact (little low/high). It went through the ground much easier than the Titleists. Lastly, for me, it was the feel of hitting a pure shot with the Mizunos....nothing else compaired. -
I have a couple ball caps that I wear. It is either one of my (many) 49ers caps, my Hard Rock Dubai, or Scottsdale Gun Club ball cap.

If you know the distance of your 8i, play the hole to that distance. For example, let's say you hit your 8i 130yrds and you are on a 492 Par 5. If you hit your driver only 220, you would be 272 out. That would be a 7i followed with an 8i. Just because you have 272 to go, doesn't mean you have to go for it. Play your strengths against the course and you could see lower scores. NOW, that being said...it is easier said than done. lol I am still trying to remember not to pull out the boom stick on long par 4/par 5's. It's an ego thing. Since I know my score is up there, taking a bogey on a par 4 because I played smarter is better than a snowman because I didn't.
-
Aside from you letting it bother you, you created the original problem. You had no problem letting him use your old clubs, so he didn't think anything of asking to borrow your new one. Now, I understand where you are coming from. I just ordered some new Mizuno irons. There is no way I am letting anyone hit them but me! lol

Mizuno introduces the sound of feel
Damien45 replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Let's take the forged steel vs. cast steel to another area.... It is common knowledge that the Japanese had the best swords in the day because of their forging process. It is the same metal, but it was forged in a way that made them superior. When struck the metal would sing, much as the iron heads do now. So, what's to say that there isn't something to that? There was a significant difference between Japanese forged vs. the forging of others. I am not an engineer, but I do think there is a difference. Personal prefference being the only thing that makes the real difference, go with what feels best to you. -
I have these also. The tabs are not bad, and actually make club selection pretty quick. Most of the time the tab just lays flat.

Just head to your local store or ebay, buy a used mizuno and used anyone else and try it. I can pick up a used single club for $4. -
So you experienced Ballooning with every club?

Mizuno introduces the sound of feel
Damien45 replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well I did say "make as much of a difference". Cymbals are designed and cut specifically to make the different sounds based on how and where tgey are struck. Not to mention with what. The club heads being struck at differnet points are not going to make "a cymbals' worth of difference". -

Damien45 replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Where you strike it isn't such a big difference. If it was a drum, it would make a difference. I may be wrong, but the idea of the sound relates to the forging. To achieve the sustain that they are getting from the club heads, the metal has to have continuity. For example, a guitar string. Change the tension on it, it will change the tone. Also, a hammer doesn't ring when struck. I think the sound was a by product of their forging process, which is a cool one. Yes I do believe it makes a difference in the way it feels. Probably the reason a pure shot is like butter. -
Golf Ball Hot List......... Ya, Right $%#+*
Damien45 replied to whit53's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Not only that but some balls have a very identifiable dimple pattern. Callaway = Hex Bridgestone = clust of dimples on opposite sides of the ball, exactly the same Top Flite D2's = Dimple in Dimple Just to name a few. -
I know that the e5+ has a Urethane Cover. What is the cover on the e6+ and e7+?

Arizona! When it gets too hot in Phoenix, do the drive to Prescott, Sedona, or Flaggstaff. If you run out of places to play in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale, Avondale, Peoria....you get the idea.....then there is always a drive to Tucson or any other city that is closer. The most you would have to drive to play is 2hrs. I've read numerous posts about the 1+hr drive to play, so that would not be something new.
