  1. 79 yesterday with my dad. First time getting back under 80 this year with two 80's and an 82. I've got the bogey's on hole 18. That's just frustrating... Three putt on one, Three putt par on hole two, three putt on hole six. I hate three putts, thats three that I should have back right there for a 76. I can understand hitting bad shots that go off line a little, missing left and right is ok with me. but three putt bogeys just burn me. I hate the feeling of not even giving the birdie a chance...ending up 5 feet short with plenty of work left. Just having a trouble getting the speed of the greens with only a few rounds under my belt so far. Such is golf I guess...
  2. If you count a pitching wedge---4
  3. Thats easy, Mac. My wife used to be a PCer, until we got our macbook and went on from there. It is easy to use, little to learn, and fantasticly developed. I have NEVER had a virus. The only junk mail I get is because I have signed up for it somewhere. The computer rarely, if ever randomly needs to be rebooted (I think twice in a year). You'll love imovie, idvd, iphoto, and it's compatability with all of the microsoft office and windows programs.
  4. I don't know if I would categorize what tiger does for GD as "articles". There are some nice tips, but 2 paragraphs doesn't count for me as an article. I personally subscribe to GD, Golf, and Links magazine. I like how Links focuses on courses around the world. I like things in GD like "What's in my bag". I like breaking 100, 90, 80, 70. That stuff helps.
  5. Rochester is just about 40 minutes outside of your 90 minute requirement. But, if you do ever come up the Rochester way, let me know and we can play a few of the top public courses. I am a member at Mill Creek Golf Club, and there are a few others worth playing (i.e. Ravenwood Golf Club)
  6. Ya know, it really wasn't that long. It was probably like 4.5 hrs. And there was a definite line of carts waiting for the first tee. What was key was that all of the foursomes of ladies let us through. Princeville- like I said, not incredibly manicured for me. But, I guess that's hawaii. we stayed on the southshore in poipu--I didn't golf at poipu bay, but when we walked down there and I stood out around the course, I had a similar feeling about conditions. That course is more on the water though. There are also the two courses over by the airport....You get the idea. Lots of courses- you're playing golf in hawaii, it can't be that bad, right?
  7. I was just in a similar situation. I had an old Titleist 980F 15 degree that I would never hit. I talked extensively with the pro at my home course and he couldn't stop talking about taylormade. He let me take out his r7 TP 3-wood at least 5 times on the course, and I used it just about every warm up on the range. It is a fantastic club. In efforts to save some dough, I ended up going with the r7 steel, instead of the tp. the steel (with graphite shaft) just dropped at any local golf store to 179.99. Ebay of course will have a better deal somewhere. The ball flies off of the face. With a good swing, you will strike it well. If you want a bigger club head to use off the tee more often, take a look at the titanium, or the burner fairway. The pro was pushing taylormade, and it was worth listening to for me.
  8. Don't know if you've already gone: While on my honeymoon (I know, what a wife), I played princeville and the muni near the airport. Princeville was as advertised. Stunning views, incredibly difficult holes that require prime shot making. Then other holes that are forgiving. I thought for the price (up to 195) that the course would be in pristine shape, manicured etc. It wasn't perfect, but very very good. I'd go back if I had the chance. My wife got a massage while I played the front 9 and then rode along with me on the back. It was NO PROBLEM getting a tee time---not a ton of people on the course for that price. The muni--it was called.....Wailua. No tee times at twilight--only something like 28 to ride. Course is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. I think four of the holes played right along side it. Was it the perfect course? no---extraordinarily well maintained? no---exciting hole layout? no---....BUT, for 28, playing on the ocean, amidst the palm trees, it was a great opportunity to play a little less stressful golf. I would recommend. If your wallet is particularly fat- try poipu bay at the grand hyatt. the PGA Grand Slam of Golf used to be held there (might still be)
  9. I think what is really difficult is all of the variables that go into a drive. Like other posts prior to this one: elevation changes from tee to fairway, turns in the fairway that allow players to cut off distance, wind, ROLL. Let's be honest, are we talking about carry distance? or distance with roll? give me a hard muni fairway in the middle of August...i could probably get it plus 300 a few times. If you were to take total yardage of the hole and subtract distance to the middle of the green you probably wouldn't get the ACTUAL distance of the drive even 75% of the time. It would probably be close. Sure, I've hit the ball on a 415 par 4 and been at 100, but was my drive 315 yards? I don't know---and I don't care. After a round, people don't usually ask how--they ask how many. I'm just trying to answer with the lowest score possible.
  10. Teaching 3rd graders....ah the joy of football at recess. I have July and August completely off. My school district actually goes late (June 22). We start back up on Sept. 5th. I do, however, coach volleyball which starts mid/late august. So I have about 1.5 months of solid golf time.
  11. I'll generally start each round with a new sleeve of ProV's. If I can--and it's not a competitive round--I'll use the same ball throughout. If the scuffs or cuts get bad, I'll switch. But I can still remember the one ball weekends. I just enjoy getting through 18 knowing I only used one ball. I also like the high numbers. 5-6-7-8. I used the 7's in the club championship last year, ended up shooting a couple of 77's. Maybe I should have used the 6's... :)
  12. about how much does it run to have one refinished? I realize it would vary depending on the options you choose, but roughly? anyone?
  13. Thanks---Little Mountain it is. **We'll keep an eye out for those little mountains for you...let you know if we find anything**
  14. How about Stone Water or Little Mountain?
  15. How about Stone Water or Little Mountain? Anyone?
  16. Ok, hit me with a few on the east side...
  17. If the clubhouse turns out to be what the sketches show on the website, that might be one large piece of golf eye candy---and it isn't even green.
  18. Thanks guys. Enough time to change plans...any thoughts on another course in the cleveland area? we'd like to stay west side if possible.
  19. If you are ever in the Hershey PA area and your wallet is feeling a little thick, call up Wren Dale Golf Club and see if they have any tee times available. Yes- $85 dollars for a non member round is expensive. But it includes the cart and the range as well (I'm not a fan of upscale public courses nickel and diming people with a four dollar range ball bag). The course is kept in incredible shape. Holes are exciting and involve many forced carries and water as well. I especially like hole 11, Hole 16, and Hole 6. Check out their website at Wrendalegolfclub.com.
  20. My father, brother and I are going to meet up near Cleveland, OH to play some golf. My brother did some research and selected Boulder Creek and Blue Heron, both in the Cleveland area. The golfclevelandohio.com website provided nice but brief reviews of the courses and the websites are nice. I'm wondering if anyone has played them and has some thoughts on either. Thought you might have an idea Erik considering both courses are probably within 1.5 to 2 hours of you.
  21. Erik, your thoughts on TP vs. the 906?
  22. Need some quick advice. I am looking to fill a void at my 3 wood position. I used to have an old titleist 980F that I wont even take out of my bag anymore. I'm thinking the taylormade line, and possibly the r7 line. My club pro let me borrow his TM r7 TP 15 degree club and it felt excellent. Then he quoted me a 400$ plus price tag, a $275 for the titanium, and a $205 for the steel. I read the review of the r7 TP from Erik several months ago. I guess my question is this: Does anyone have any thoughts on the steel vs. the titanium vs. the tp? aside from cost. I've been keeping an eye on ebay and it looks like any of the three could be found for under $160 give or take condition of the club. I do plan to go and hit them at a golf galaxy or a local pro shop, but does anyone have personal course experience with the clubs? Thanks---
  23. Whats interesting is the person who plays all Titleist clubs suggested the Titleist driver, and the person who plays al Taylor Made clubs suggested the Taylor Made driver... What I think it all really comes down to is feel and comfort level. Granted there are other issues like getting fit that you cant hear enough times these days. But when you look down at the club, what do you want to see? I'm a titleist player, I want a Titleist club. My father is a callaway, he wants that. My brother, a Nike....you get where I'm going... Obviously if that means nothing to you, then select whatever you hit the best....
  24. There are many great courses in the Northeast that golf enthusiasts could rattle off quickly...Bethpage and all the others in the NYC/LI area. But how about the public courses that do an excellent job providing a golfer an excellent product. If you are in the Western PA, Western NY area here are a few to try out... Cranberry Highlands, Cranberry PA. (just north of Pittsburgh) A very well maintained course. The layout is exciting at some points, and repeating at others. As a par 70 and only 6500 from the tips, it is a playable course for anyone who can hit the ball straight, as long isn't as much an issue. Out of the 5 par 3's, numbers 3 and 15 are exciting holes to play. I really enjoyed the way some of the holes were visually stimulating, with very well placed fairway bunkers. Quick greens with sublte breaks, and fescue that swallows up balls. $59 on weekends, $49 on weekdays which includes an electric riding cart. Visit cranberryhighlands.com for more info. Mill Creek Golf Club, Churchville NY. (just west of Rochester) Another well maintained course. Very new, so things are still maturing and becoming set. Clubhouse is a work in progress, but pro shop is beautiful. Very accessible and large practice area with bunker green, chipping green, grass driving range, and large putting green. The course is a beautiful layout with forgiving bentgrass fairways and large greens. The Rochester skyline is visible from many of the holes as the course plays off a large hill where the clubhouse sits. A few blind shots make the course difficult for the first time player. I liked the course because each of the holes had something different to offer. Also a links style course with fescue in play on each hole. $64 on weekends and $54 on weekdays which includes the cost of electric riding cart. visit millcreekgolfclub.com for more info
  25. I don't know if I would call the T a failed driver. It has more size that the 983 series which is enough to make it better, even if the technology is visually similar. The T has a little more weight set in the back of the head with the weight pads, as well as the weight plug in the middle of the head. It sounds better than the 983, and has a natural draw to it. The only real reason why some would call it a "failed" driver is because everyone is selling it and few are buying it. But in reality, this is because only a year after its release, Titleist released a replacement club that is bigger and better. If you are smart, you could pick up a T on ebay for about $115. Or you could get a R for $300. Obviously if price isn't an issue, get the R.
