  1. you felt comfortable with +1.5" and your pga pro (who actually teaches golf for a living and has no doubt seen dozens of swings) tells you to get +1.5" and the idiot golf smith employee measures you, compares you to a rule of thumb chart and tells you to get +.5"... seems like a no brainer to me, pal.
  2. Do you think the pro's could shoot par (or lower) on for every round on every course they play if they dont ever "go for it" or play aggressive shots?
  3. I play in these and have no problems.
  4. loft, lie, head type (oversized heads, player cavities, blades), shaft stiffness/weight, overall build quality, grooves, feel.. lots of differences.
  5. This post is directed at you and anyone else who is insisting the stat that he is 5'1" is absolutely correct. Have ANY of you ever seen him and stood directly behind him (i.e behind him in line at a gas station snack shop) or anywhere even remotely close to him? No? Yea, I didn't think so. I don't know the kid, I've never spoken to him, I don't know any of his friends, however I DO know that he is NOT 5'1". He was standing in front of me in sandals and I was wearing my top siders and he was still less than 4-6" shorter than me. I'm 5'8" So you can do the math. I'm not trying to take away anything from the guy. He IS short and whether the 314 yard average stat was accurate or not I do not know, but he sure does have a lot of power for someone of his stature. However, we don't really know if he (like amateurs) is hitting his driver "all-out" or if he (like most of the pro's) is swinging moderately in order to get good distance while maintaining control. Obviously if it is the latter than the 314 average is much more impressive. Stats aren't everything. Whether he hits it 200 or 400 yards off the tee, at the end of the round/tournament his score is his score. i doubt thats why any of us are "adding" height to Tad. How often does Tiger (6'1", 180 according to golf channel) average 314 off the tee? I'm sure most of us arent in anywhere near as good as shape as Tiger so If Tad is averaging a higher driving distance (even if only for that one tournament - YES i KNOW they dont play on the same tour) then I don't see why anyone here would think Tad is more of a man or whatever than them. I'm saying Tad isn't 5'1" because he really is not 5'1". As I've said a few times already, his power and distance is impressive, but I don't feel like any less of a player because he hits it longer than I do. He's on tour for a reason. /rant.
  6. Exactly, find a new instructor and work on the fundamentals of the game - grip, swing plane, tempo, stuff like that. Secondly, it's very true that every player has a bad day, even the pro's. Tiger missed the cut at a major this year, John daly just shot an 81.. an 81 (maybe good for you and me, but for a pro? ha!)
  7. If you play better with hybrids, get the hybrids. I personally learned to just use 5 and 3 woods but when I was learning to golf I knew nothing of hybrids so i didn't really have a choice. I'm 20 yrs old
  8. you really don't have that many options.. 1. choke up on driver 2. take a lesser club 3. hit it normal, dont be a pansy :)
  9. I go to the range in shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops all the time. Seems to me like you may have a problem hitting push fades? Your grip looks strong (right hand too far under the club) and your clubhead is pretty open at the top of your swing.
  10. I see, thanks :) So you do you have regular flex shafts? Do you like having ~10g heavier fairway shafts?
  11. I'm 20 (21 in a little over a week, so still well within my "testosterone flowing days") and I I definitely would've finished the round. Why did you even need to be at the house party at any given time? And not to sound like a jackass, but were you desperate for some um... female company? Girls come and go (and i'm sure you know that there is no shortage of them) but having a good round of golf isn't as easy as picking up a girl at a house party. Plus it was your friend's sister.. if i had a hot sister and any of my friend's touched her I would beat the hell out of them. That said, although I don't necessarily agree with your decision to abandon the round to get with your "friend's" sister, I commend you on your moment in hook-up history :)
  12. i see a couple of solutions to the problem. 1. ignore him, play better than him even when he's trash talking. 2. tell him to cut it out (but if he does you'd better play better than you did when he was talking or else he'll have more reason to laugh at you)
  13. best idea = play par 3 courses. real game exposure
  14. don't you think that extra practice shot affects your overall score even if it's not the one that goes on the scorecard? The "confidence" you gain when you hit that practice shot well, or the irritation it might create when you don't hit it the way you wanted to?
  15. Would it be a problem if my 3 wood and 5 wood shafts weight more than my driver's shaft? My driver currently has a Stiff Fujikura Speeder shaft on it and the fairway woods i'm planning on buying have ProForce V2 85 Fairway Stiff on them. I don't know much about shafts and i generally just buy what "feels good" to me but I was unable to find any shop here who has the 906F's with the ProForce V2 85 Fairway on them. Edit: Just found out the Fujikura shaft is 78g while the ProForce is 85g.. Edit 2: Been reading online a bit and found out that a lot of people reccomend having a heavier 3wood shaft than driver shaft (~10g or more) Anyone have a lighter 3wood shaft than driver shaft? or equal weights?
  16. Although companies generally do release new clubs every year, older models (within reason) imo don't ever become "obsolete." If you enjoy the clubs you have and you are able to hit them as well as you'd like, I don't see any reason to buy a new club/set of clubs (unless you think they'd really help improve your game). My irons are i think 6 or 7 years old and for 5 of those years they basically sat in my bag in a closet somewhere in my house because I gave up golfing so they are still in great shape, have lots of grooves and I love the way they feel and perform. I used to have a 975 J-VS (i don't know if the J-VS is an older or newer model relative to the D but both of them are quite old) and i was in love with that club but one day the clubface cracked and I had to say goodbye. I definitely think the smaller CC heads are a little more difficult to hit because they have a smaller sweetspot and unlike the newer drivers, they arent necessarily weighted to help produce a certain type of shot. If you feel the need to update, I think you should go to your local store and try some demo clubs out. Since you're still getting into the game (and you're like me and don't have money to constantly be buying new clubs) you might want to try out a slightly newer model than the 975 but not something so new that its still $200+ for a lightly used club. Taylormade R7, Taylormade Burner, Cleveland Hi-Bore, Titleist 907D among others can all be had for under $100 used and still in pretty good condition. I've never played any of these as i'm still very happy with my Titleist 905R (which is older than most of the ones i mentioned above) but i've heard good things about all of them.
  17. I expect to make 4' and in but i don't always succeed. I also expect to make straight-ish 10' footers and i usually do pretty well on those. Putting could be the weakest part of my game and my scorecard shows it.
  18. Callaway x-14's.. oldies but goodies
  19. Like others here I'm also in the process of permanently switching from the Pro v1 to the bridgestone b330-s. other balls similar to the pro v (probably more durable too) are: taylormade tp black (or red) callaway hx tour bridgestone 330, 330-s, 330-rx Nike One (black or platinum) Basically unless you're really picky and keen on ball performance, you probably won't notice the difference between most of the 3 piece balls and you may not even notice much of a difference with a cheaper, 2 piece ball.
  20. stretching and warming up (starting with wedges and short irons) will help. I think your main problem is just not being adapted to the muscle usage of a golf swing. also i'm sure you're trying to swing too hard (common problem in golfers of all levels) and could be overexerting yourself.
  21. I'd really just like to have free balls & clubs & greens fees.. I don't want to be "granted" a better swing or better game or anything like that. I enjoy putting in the effort and time to improve my game, but sometimes the expense is just a bit more than I can afford right now.
  22. I play lots of rounds at twilight on my own where i take lots of practice shots and basically ignore all the rules of golf besides etiquette ones.. fixing divots, letting faster groups play through, etc. The only rule i tend to not follow (as long as its not a sanctioned event/tourny) is not measuring drops. My friends and I just agree to drop where we believe the ball to be lost or somewhere in the area where we arent at any advantage (no closer to the hole, not in perfect lies) stuff like that.
  23. Ok, decided on 906F2 3 wood so far. Went to roger dunn today and hit over half a dozen different 3 woods at 17-18.5* loft and the 906F2 had the best results. Hit 8 or 9 balls and all were dead center with a nice mid level ball flight and slight fade.
  24. I have a similar problem although mine only happens when i've been hitting in a range stall for too long. Usually I just sit down for a few minutes and let my hands relax and it solves the problem. Maybe you have a problem that is being aggravated by golf? Possibly go see a PT or your physician
