47. The first question was tricky.

Glorify big hits? No. But if he is a line backer then I do want him to make the big tackles and break up plays. He can only play the right way. I never want to see him go after someone's head or play dirty. He will be done if I observed that. I believe the risk of him doing much worse things if he doesn't play sports is high. What do HS kids do during the summer. Get into trouble. If he plays football, baseball, golf he will have less time to do those things. HS football is tough. 2 a days eat up your whole summer.

I'm not looking this up but look at ratings for big conference games with top teir teams and NBA regular season games. I really don't know anyone who watches pro basketball until play offs. I'm 100% confident that more people follow/watch/enjoy college basketball. Productivity doesn't go down in offices for the NBA play offs.
-
Yeah I will be proud. Its his choice when he gets in HS. We have the best football team in the state and being a winner, man what I would give. I was stupid and didn't play. It wasn't because I was afraid, I was too busy being lazy. I think that is the extreme. What % of HS players have long term effects from football. I bet it is 1 out of every 1000, if that. It really is your choice how you raise your kids. I don't want mine to be afraid because of risk. I think HS people driving a car is more of risk to their long term health than football. They are idiots. But I hope technology improves to protect players. I think hits that are intended to hurt the other player shouldn't be tolorated. If you go after someones head the punishment should be severe. I think season long suspensions would be proper. Coaches and players should know when coming in to break up the play should be hits to the chest. I don't like dirty play.

What the hell the race have to do with not liking basketball. The lack of effort by NBA players in the regular season turns me off to pro. But college, it is 100% every game. No wonder college basketball is so much more popular.

Where the decline is going to start is in HS football. I could see states/HSs stop playing because it is dangerous. Well no Sh*T. Of course it is. So is driving a car, motocross, snow sports, soccer. I love football and will encourage my son to play. But I know the risk, he will too. Every player getting on the field knows the risk. Its the game. And part of being good is blowing people up. Do it in the right way, but do it. I'd be proud of my boy if he was the big hitter on the field. What annoys me now about the NFL is they are trying to take the big hit out of the game. The QB should be scared, the WR should be scared. That makes it a great, even game. Without the fear offenses will dominate football.

Trying to get better but get worse
Leftygolfer replied to Leftygolfer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I don't think it is uncommon for pros. There are so many that do well on tour then lose it for whatever reason. I understand changing is a process and you can hit the ball less solidly during that time. But for me, it was unbelievable how badly I played. The changes I was attempting to make on video made sense. The top of my swing has always been a mess but that extra time/compensations to get the club in deliverable position helped slow down my arms. When I tighten up my backswing I get so quick I've hit toe shanks, flat out miss the ball, lots of totally horrible shots that make the game not fun. I'm sure what I was working on didn't mix with something I was doing or it was just the wrong thing. Now at the range I work on hitting it solidly and having a tee shot I can repeat. To do that, I pretty much am trying to forget everything I was working on for the last 3 years. I'm at the point I just want to have fun. I really don't care if I'm playing a pull cut, coming over it, whatever I do. I'm well aware I don't have the most effective swing and it could be better. I look at the champion's tour, PGA tour, and what I consider highly skilled golfers swings. There are so many that are unorthodox but can play at a high level on tough courses. To me, a good move is one you can repeat. And I don't think everone can have a perfect move and repeat it. Maybe I'm weak minded, not cordinated, or whatever. But I just want to get back to playing to a good 10. I had fun playing that way and that is why I play. -
Watching the golf telecast today and heard the story about the former champion who won then 3 years later out of pro golf. Apparently he tried to get better and make changes but lost his ability to compete. This isn't unique in pro golf. Similar thing happened to me. 3 years ago I was much better than I am now and I've worked hard (went from shoting 81-83 really consistantly to 90+). Just curious to if this is common.

There is nothing unique or more difficult to play a 64. I've had one for around 4 years, it has been in my bag most of the time. If you can hit a good wedge shot with a 56, you can do it with a 64. Just keep your hands in front of the ball at impact. I am much more accurate from 60-70 yards with that than a 60. I really think the stigma behind that loft is in peoples head or they never have played one. When I'm playing well it is a huge advantage on par 5s b/c I expect to hit it to at worst 20 feet from 60 yards. FYI I've worked hard at being a good wedge player. That is my strength. I think that the PW, 52, 58, 64 would be a nice set up.

Completed my first marathon on Sunday. I did the flying pig in Cincy. I had a good time and enjoyed it. Did it in 5:19 (12 min miles, just over). Really could have done it faster but met up with a buddy by chance and he was hurting so I stuck with him miles 18 to 24. But glad I felt fine post race. I felt really good 3-13. Happy to be done training for it. Really nice race, lots of water and food. Nice not too hilly course.

I had the exact same flex and shaft on my current 5 wood, a big bertha 2. I broke it and had it replaced with a UST pro force comp 75 stiff and it is very similar. Not an expensive shaft at all, maybe 30. But if your not in love with the club you could buy a new used club for the same price after instalation.

I haven't been on the computer much late except at work so haven't posted in a while. Since my last training for the marathon has been ok. Did the 20, 12, 8 mile long runs in my program. 20 hurt, 12 and 8 were easy. Not easy, but not the same as 20. Doing the flying pig marathon this weekend. Going to be warm it appears but nice. I feel ready enough. I know the last 6-10 are going to be slow and painful. I expect 5:30ish time based on training and the 1/2 I did in march. Don't really care, just want to finish. Excited to start playing golf regularly again.

I haven't posted in a while. Been running quit a bit since my last. Training for the whole. Anyone on mapmyrun? If so, I'm leftygolfer on there and friend me. 3/20 4.02 miles in 45 min 3/21 8.6 in 1:40 3/27 9.24 in 1:48 3/29 4.92 in 1 hour 4/1 18.92 in 3:50 Times are somewhat accurate. Distance and dates are. Been super busy, missed a long run the weekend before last. Haven't ran yet this week. Really busy with spring outside stuff. This week I have a 9, 5, 14. Wieght is falling a bit right now. Belt size is dropping and feel pretty strong sometimes. The last 5 of the 19 really really hurt.

Last week did the heart half marathon. Tuesday did 8.58 in 1:30. Felt really good. Thursday did 2.49 in 28. I was planning 4 but ran out of time and my right foot started hurting and knew I had the half Sunday morning. Sunday, did the 13.1 in 2:25. Finished in the bottom 20 out of 165 in my division. But I'm a novice runner and fat so what can you expect?? Took Monday off, did 4.02 tonight in 45. The heat really got to me. Not used to it and didn't bring my water belt. Felt blah. Rest of this week. I've got an 8, 5, and 12. Might switch out the 5 for some cycling. I miss running when it is chilly out. This stupid training is stealing my golf time. I have the time but not the legs after the big runs. Really looking foward to being done with the marathon. The training is hard, not all that much fun, and long. Come on May 3rd!!!!

You can't judge his leg strength on those pics. I've seen someone with birdy looking legs squat 4 plates in sets. It really depends on the injury (obviously). If it is some inflamation it isn't going to keep him from too much golf. But if he has something that will not heal right then who knows. He's no spring chicken so he might not be healing quickly anymore.

Last week I lifted my legs Monday. Haven't lifted for a while but felt relatively strong coming off a rest day. So I went somewhat heavy on squats, dead lifts, straight leg dead lifts, calf raises, and lots of stretching. What a mistake for training for a marathon. I was so sore Tuesday and Wednesday. Wed-In big pain so cut my run short and slow. 3.46 miles 40 minutes. Dog wasn't keeping up too well so just annoying. Thurs-Ran 4 on the tread mill in 42. Felt good, once I got warm my legs didn't hurt at all. Sat-15.16 miles. 2 hours 50 minutes. Felt good for the first 12, last 3 were really hard. I've never ran/jogged that much in my whole life. Knee pain has gotten better. Very little pain except muscle the whole run. Perfect weather. I like running when it is brisk and sunny. This week, took today off, then 8 tomr, Wednesday can't confirm, Thursday a moderate workout. Rest Friday, Sat, then a half marathon Sunday morning at the Heart Mini½ marathon. I figure around 220-230. I want to finish strong and at the same pace as I started.

Huh, what's the stereotype of someone who is sceptical of global warming? The consensus I see in the scientic world is you don't get funding for not finding results. Don't see grants going out to inconclusive evidence.
-
Yukari, you are in some kind of shape. That is smokin 10 miles. I know I particular slow but I ran the same and it took me 1:55.

I've never been given a dime or given a dime to anyone on this site or associated with Golf Evolution. If I was to pay someone for golf instruction I'd pay them. The endless knowledge and the pursuit at learning more never seems to stop. I've heard nothing but great things and have seen some of their instruction and I've never felt like it was the wrong thing.

This week was ok. I did 5.6 on monday, I ran 8.12 miles Wednesday. Felt really good. Came in right at 11 minute miles. For me that is a good pace for a mid-length run. Saterday, did 10.15 in 1:55. Felt fine. Had some tough climbs. Overall a good workout. Didn't do much else this week. Got busy doing other stuff and pulled in different directions. This week is a big week. I have 15 for the long and 7 or 8 for the mid. The short ones tues thursday will probably sub out and do something different. Diet is still really hard for me. Can seem to not eat bad or over eat on the weekends.

Can he not be angry and irritated? I thought he handled himself fine. He was clearly frustrated with the question and he was pushing him. I don't know how we can expect him to be super human and have no emotions. He can only do that on the golf course.

I personally love to walk and avid about this. My friends aren't like me. They kind of poke at me a little and aren't super courteous in anyway. What the hell is my point. I haven't a clue except I love walking, the peace and quiet is great, and I could really give a rat's butt what others think about it. I can keep up and if I can't I will not play.

Just got some new shoes today. They are the New Balance 1080V2. I got fitted at the local running store. Odd thing is I've been fitted before and stability shoe was what I got. She said that seemed odd and recommended a neutral shoe. She said if anythng I underpronate. Other gear, amphipod water belt, cotton nothing, dry fit everything. During my runs I drink accelerade and for long ones force down gu every hour.

Does Modern Golf Technology have too Much Technology?
Leftygolfer replied to mvmac's topic in Golf Talk
My opinion is the technology in golf has helped everyone, from the average hack to the touring pro. But the game is still plenty hard. The pros were hitting it super solid in the past and present. Hacks like me are all over the club face. The forgiveness in drivers helps me hit it farther and maybe a little straighter. I never played with old time clubs so I'm not sure how they would perform. But most can't hit greens now. I'd imagine the courses were a little shorter and hacks of the past weren't hitting greens. No club can replace a good move. -
I totally screwed up my training program this week. I missed my long run. I also am trading the short runs for spinning/other stuff (mostly spinning). So last week, I was at the gym from 5:30 till 7 both tues, thurs. Hit it hard on the spinning bike prior to class so it was an hour long class with doing this and that before. Did 5.6 mile run Wednesday. Felt good. Dog went and he did well. Time was right at 1:05ish. Saturday went to gym, did spinning bike to warm up for 10 minutes, eliptical 20 minutes, then some excercises lifting. Quick tempo kept heart rate. Misses Sunday's run. Overslept and had plans with Family. Losing motivation in my training. My last long run was a little painful. But where I'm not doing well is eating and not drinking/having ocassional cigarettes. Loosing weight all week to put it back on Sat Sun. Signed up for the Heart Half Marathon on Sunday March 18th. Figured give me something closer to train for. The marathon isn't until May 3ish. I have to admit I'm a little scared. 12 hurt me. I need to get in better shape fast. Tonight ran a little to make up for it. 5.68 Miles 1:05. Dog went, felt pretty good. Great weather for running. I really enjoy that length run. This week I'm continuing to sub out my Tues/Thurs run for spinning. Then 6 wednes, 13 Sat, cross train or golf practice sunday.
