I have a game to add. It is called safty draw back. Here is the game (best with a competitor). This is for makable putts, lets say within 25 feet. The idea is to train yourself to putt right distance. You putt the first putt from where ever. If it comes up short or doesn't get to the back of the cup, or more than 35 inches past (use you're putter as a guide) pull the second put back one putter away from the hole. If it is in the "safe" zone then putt from where is. Also any putt after the second putt must be drawn back away from the hole. Also, the max number of putts is five except on the last hole. Play 9 holes. This drill will punish you for not rolling putts the right speed and will reward you for rolling them the correct speed. If I did a lousy job of explaining this, this is straight from pelz. He believes 17 inches past is the correct speed.

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Leftygolfer replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thank you for the info regarding the 2. Do you know if these can be delofted. I am planning on bending my irons a bit. They seem to hit the ball very high and I think they are almost a full club shorter than my last set. I would consider doing it to my 3 and 4 fli hi, but they seems to be a little lower flight than my mp60s. -
No I am not sure. I am actually thinking about it, I am wrong. That is why you hit your 9 iron straighter than your 3 iron. Thanks for the correction. I just know I am not long enough to give up yardage and be able to play long courses and be able to hit greens.

I know for me that my best drives are about an 1/2 inch about center. That is where I get the best trajectory, distance, roll, sound, everything. I think that is true for many drivers and would say many of the tour pros who can actually hit it everytime do hit it there with a very level path through impact or slightly upward strike to minimize backspin.

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Leftygolfer replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the 3 and 4 and love them. I had the callaway x H 3 and hated it. I am a natural drawer of the ball and just hit rope hooks and just didn't like the weight or feel. Maybe it was the shaft but I am selling it. Anyway, they rock. I have a question about the 2. Can you hit it high enough to get good distance? I hit the 3 about 200 yards in the air. I really like my 5 wood so I would not feel comfortable taking that out of my bag for a 3rd fli-hi. I can hit that 5 wood as far as I can any 3 wood I have hit about 225-230 (I have 2 sitting in my garage). -
I would highly doubt for most players that tried to hit with a slight downward strike would not be optimal. I believe that we can not hit it with a square club face like the pros. And when that miss is with a downward strike comes more hook and slice. I know that my best days with my driver I have not broken a tee which is a sign of a level or slight up swing. I have a friend who tees the ball low and back. He has a swing speed of 110-113 and I consistantly keep up with him at a swing speed of 100 maybe 105. We both hit it high but because of his excessive spin he doesn't out drive me (I got him by 20 yards on 18 with no roll and we both hit it well 250-270) I know he is losing 30 yards. Would anyone really give up 30 yards for couple of fairways? I know I wouldn't.

How to hit a "low checker" with a lob wedge?
Leftygolfer replied to Danattherock's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think one of the main keys to hitting this shot is the wedge. I can play this shot with my 64 with the MD grooves but I can not with my 60 that is older. I have always hit my pitches low with alot of spin. It is wierd because I am hitting it with a 64 which you would think would be high and soft. A real key is to really deloft the wedge and have the hands far in front of the ball to get that decending blow. But again, if you want be able to really play that shot you got to have new wedges. I am personally trying to teach myself to actually hit it higher and use both spin and height. I would like to know exactly how the ball is coming off the face but I try to hit is high and it comes out low because I let my hands turn over. Also must have a good lie. -
This is a huge problem for me. The reason I think I do this is because my arms out race my hips and I come over the top. I also seem to hit pulls when I try to hit half shots. I am also going to get the lies checked.

My goals: 1. Play well in the tournements I enter. (Playing in one in about a month) 2. Get the award in league for low gross. 3. No scores in the 90s. 4. Shoot my career best (75 is currently) 5. Play consistantly well. Be able to put together entire rounds without having the 3-4 holes were I just totally lose it. 6. Be able to consistantly hit 8-9 greens a round. How am I going to do this? Not sure. I have a family, a job, a wife. I have to practice at least once a week, play 1-2 times a week (including my 9 hole league) Maybe some golf instruction. I miss too many greens and my short game saves me. I need 5-7 good looks at birdie a round.

Lost PW. Can a Gap wedge replace it?
Leftygolfer replied to XMScott's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
There is a company that sells individual irons. Clubfinder.com I lost my pitching wedge to my old set and bought a new one for about 60 dollars. Also, always ebay. I bet you can get the exact one that goes with your set. -
I really enjoyed the book myself. I read it maybe 2 years ago and pick it up every now and again. I think the bunker play instruction is spot on. I do not have the time to truely have a unique wedge swing where my hips are unrestricted compared with my power swing. Overall, a very informative book that I read very quickly. I want the recovery book by Pelz, and I have the putting bible as well. I am a pelz fan.

I am a big Dave Pelz fan. I believe in his science and method. But regardless of which method you use practicing the short ones is critical. I practice more 3 footers than all others combined. I go around the hole and use my preshot routine for every putt. Speed is everything. You have to hit putts firm and not afraid of the come backer from short distances. Once you expect to make the 3 foot putts, you can give longer ones a chance and not be afraid of 3 putting. Another thing that helps me is taking my practice very seriously. I put alot of pressure on myself to make them. I am upset when I miss them just as I am when I am playing. I use the line for alignment. I see alot of people on greens who just bang the ball around with no purpose. You will not improve that way.

A new wedge, good contact. I can spin my 64 from 20 yards. That wedge has changed my game from 65 yards and in. When it was new it was unreal, now it doesn't check as hard (I bought it in August).

My question is less specific than that. I know I could swing a stiff shaft. I would like some input into the true difference between the $300 shafts such as the Blue Board and Graphite Design YS-6. I will get fitted before I purchase anything but I am not sure if the big upgrade would be worth it in the long run.

I currently have the original Cleveland Launcher 460 with 10.5 degrees of loft with a UST pro-force regular flex shaft. I am a pretty good driver of the golf ball (at times). If I aim well and have a good tempo I can hit 9-14 fairways averaging around 250 in the air. My misses are really bad though (Dead right pull hook) Does anyone know how a different shaft would effect my ball flight, consistancy, and distance. I am itching for an exotic shaft but I am not sure if it would be worth it. Does anyone have any ideas about how much better the high end shafts such as the Izik Matrix and the M. Rayon shafts would compare. Are they worth it?

X-tour or X-forged wedges vs. Vokey
Leftygolfer replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have both. I carry the 64 x-forged, 60 vokey, had a 56 vokey (killed it, grooves are gone replaced with a 53 Mizuno MPT. I can not say that the feel of the forged wedges is different. I have forged irons (mp60) and they do feel better than my old cast irons. The 64 I have spins the ball so much around the greens. But I would imagine the spin milled vokeys would do the same. I loved my Vokeys and love the x forged. Both are quality. -
Now that MacGregor is gone what do I do?
Leftygolfer replied to uttexas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the Mizuno MP 60s and they are really nice looking and feel great. Highly recommend. I also purchased on E bay new for 400. That was right when they were discontinued so they might not be out there now. They do let you know if you don't catch it right. -
Which type of face is best for distance control
Leftygolfer replied to Smilesy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the Mizuno Putter you are referring too. I got it last year and I love it. I got it for 50 dollars new. It feels as good as a Scotty and I am putting better than ever.
