  1. For me, it depends. How dedicated are you to improving? If you are a casual golfer, play 10 times a year at most... then sure get some max game improvement callaways. If you want to improve your fundamental swing and consistency, I'd say get less forgiving clubs. I'm not saying everyone has to play blades. However, I firmly believe in bad habits forming from playing with duffer clubs. Less forgiving clubs provide instant feedback on your swing. If you mishit a ball you will feel more of the clubface on your hand, and after a while you will be able to identify if a ball was hit inside, center or outside without even looking at the club. If you have knowledge of you swing, this feedback can help you identify and potentially correct swing flaws on a particular day for example. That's just my personal preference. I play mp 67s. They are great, long. The feel, while very proactive, is not the same as my old mp 29s that were stolen (burn in hell thief). When I was playing less I picked up some cobra carbon cb irons. Those are cast but with some feel and workability. Was a mistake for me to play with such easy clubs. I lost distance and accuracy because my swing became lazy.

  3. Wow I knew I would get flack for posting my story... but it didnt know the amount of trolling in here. I cant say that I shoot under par often. But I have. I've shot under par maybe 5 times in my life. Had little to do with chipping more with getting the ball close to the pin and sinking the putts. But that has just been me. However, my game is streaky.
  4. Wasn't luck. he was a natural, that's all there is to it. I remember he lef the his shots within a flagstick to half a flagstick and then would miss the 3 foot birdie putts.d
  5. I don't have evidence,and I do have a sense of humor and am a skeptic myself. This happened almost 15 years ago so the details are hazy. Hell I don't even remember the name of the course except that it was near farmington, ct. And the two under was in 9. I guess I should've known better than to post a seemingly unbelievable comment. I expected to be doubted. That doesn't make it any less true though. Sorry if this offended a few of you people that work to make use of the little talent you have, like me. I have seen many things in golf, including two unreal hole in ones... straight from a highlight reel. One of the rocks on the shore of a lagoon, and another off a lateral tree. Shots that I would have fathomed impossible.
  6. I know it is hard to believe... I dont think I would believe it myself if I hadnt seen it with my own two eyes. So I don't blame you for trying.
  7. Well I gave him the line on the greens, and showed him a proper putting stroke... but the guy could loft or deloft a club to his liking, played mostly by feel off the fairway. No joke he only mishit one or two balls, everything else was dead center on the clubface. Was frustrating for me to say the least, yet a marvelous thing to watch. I don't think the he has played since either. Although I havent spoken to him in a couple of years. If I had been him I would've picked up golf as profession honestly... Although you never know if once he took it up and tried to learn technique he would have screwed his feeling up. When I see things like this happen, it brings me back to how much of this damn game is feeling and mental fortitude. Kind of a spit in the eye to all the fundamental swing theory I have learned over the years.
  8. QFT I have a friend who was a pro hockey player. Never picked up a club in his life. I took him out on the course for shits and giggles. The guy shot 2 under par, and if he had been able to put probably would have been 4 strokes less. and no his name was not happy gilmore.!

  10. Nice and smooth, I like it and it has a lot of potential. However, I see you hitting a lot of slices with that swing in its current form. While you do have solid footwork, your lower body moves a little to laterally front AND back. That might make consistency difficult.
  11. for me, unconscious rotation and release of the clubhead works best. Though I consciously open the clubhead at the top when I want to hit a power fade, and close it to hit a draw. That is usually dangerous territory though. It doesn't matter how you do it, as long as it isn't a check swing (square to square). Someone of your skill has to release the clubhead through the ball even if it happens naturally.

  13. the more flexible you are, the more torque you can put on the clubhead with least effort.
  14. this is a popular misconception. In reality, attack angle + clubhead speed combined is the key. Lot of ppl swing hard, but the harder you swing the mor pronounced the spin on the ball will be = less roll, higher ball flight. If you can swing fast and flat or flatter... that's where real yards come from. Muscle doesnt really factor into the golf swing except for the core muscles. Sure it is nice to be ripped like tiger... im sure his supermodel wife loves it... and his hard swings don take such a toll on his body because he is extra fit. However, they probably don't do much for his swing itself in isolation. I read a post above that some fat dudes bomb the ball 300 yard. This is sort of what im talking about. A fat guy with good flexibility and reasonable skill can transfer his weight to the clubhead and bomb it with an easier swing than a muscular thinner guy.

  17. I am currently working on this too. In my case it causes a push or contact on the inside. I was doing it subconsciously until I watched a video of myself and discovered my whole right foot and right knee were popping up. I am drilling full swings without lifting my right heel at all to cure this. It feels like a stretch on the left hip and hamstrings. eventually i will bring the heel up again after impact.   18. I just picked up a set of MP 67 on ebay that are +.5 inches in shaft length. I technically need standard or +.25 inches longer. Is it worth shaving them down or just choke up a quarter inch?
  19. you need firm wrists/hands to be able to release the club properly, otherwise you are cupping the ball and adding loft. this is the difference between the average golfer and the pristine golfer.
  20. His grip looks stronger because his right hand grip is severely strong. I can only see 2 knuckles on the left... that is more neutral. If anything, don't change the press, just weaken your right hand grip sigificantly. According to all the greats, Hogan, Nicklaus, Jones, your setup hand position is what you would like impact to be. If you are setting up with your hands cupped or behind the ball and translating that to impact, you will get weak compression and ball flight. Ideally, your hands should be leading the clubhead at impact, which is why a slight forward press at address is not a bad thing... look at Jack Nicklaus.
  21. this is awful advice for 90% of golfers. no offense. but hands towards the zipper (versus a slight press) encourage cupping of the wrists at impact rather than a firm left wrist.
  22. Yes thank you. I noticed that this morning. My right knee is coming up for some godforsaken reason and is causing my whole lower body to yip at impact. I have no idea why this is happening... probably me trying to muscle some extra juice. Guess I have to deconstruct my swing again. I am trying to rotate my hips along my spine, which is my understanding of a correct hip release. I thought for certain that dragging your hips forward on the downswing was a sure fire way to block the rest of your swing?
  23. I've been working on my swing a bit. Here are some videos from yesterday. All feedback and comments welcome. My goal is to get my hips to the point where they have released almost completely at the moment of impact like that famous ben hogan picture. Any tips for this to fit my particular swing style or other things that you see please comment. I feel like I am releasing my hips earlier/better and maintaining the spine angle through impact and follow through versus my earlier swing video. Consistency is still an issue but it comes with changing your swing. First club is a 7 iron (about 165-170 yards), second is a three wood (about 250 yds).
  24. yes and no. In Reality tiger would deloft a 6 iron to hit it 220... less to do with swing speed. Then again there's only so much he can de loft a 3 iron before it becomes next to unhittable. So I would say he probably hits a 6 iron in an unaltered swing around 190. On the other hand the three I dont see going much farther than 240 for most ppl on a regular hit..
  25. wrap a wet towel around your clubhead and swing around with it. The feeling you get will show you how to lag. Basically your hands have to trail the rest of your swing. You will know you have it because you will feel a natural whip like release of your hands later and quicker than you would if they were leading. Don't confuse this with swinging hard. I hope this helps.
