What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
William Le Wolf replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
I've done a little more playing since i last posted. The longest par 4 i have driven with my driver is slightly down hill and 442 yards with damp conditions after raining in the morning. Everyone i play with think i am the longest hitter they have ever seen. Last week i also played a 2 iron off the tee to come short of a 348 yard par 4 with a little down wind and i accidently drove the green and missed a woman by about 1 meter... Im having problems with my 50-150 yard shots because i hit my 52 wedge up to 150 yards and i just can't control the distance. I hit a 9 iron on the weekend from 170 yards and it went straight in the trees 30 yards over the back of the green (lost ball). I need to do something like shorten my swing to hit the ball not as far and keep it in play. I played on the weekend and shot 12 pars, 3 birdies with 2x 3 putt and i finished with a N.R. because i hit 3 drives off of the golf course and into houses / roads way way off track. Im talking 300 yards right of target line... -

Weight Distribution???
William Le Wolf replied to shankopotamus's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yes i use exactly the same swing and weight distribution for all full swing shots from semi flat surfaces. I try to golf as simple as possible and as consistant as possible. Swing thoughts and so on tend to lead to all kinds of problems. I only use a Driver, I did have a 4 wood in my bag but i never have a chance to use it along with 90% of my irons... 98% of Par 4's im hitting Driver sw/pw and even one par 5 the other day i was hitting driver + pw. At most im hitting 6 iron into the longer par 5's. I like my bag to be nice and low weight so i just removed my 4 wood. -
I find i hit the most perfect shot when i apply the least amount of effort into my swing. No thoughts... nothing... Im not strangling my big dog and i am swinging like i don't want to hurt him. With this technique i have driven to the front fringe of a 443 yard par 4 off the back white tee's in a club final with about 50 people watching. The conditions were not good either... Not much wind & slightly damp. My ball shots are 99.5% flight and i would love to add some topspin to make them roll but i really don't want to play with my swing.

A big reason why people are hitting slices, hooks & wild shots is due to trying to hit the ball too hard... They don't complete the swing correctly because they lose their balance or they use their arms to force the ball in the wrong direction. You still need to have your Rhythm wether you hit it the ball hard or soft to strike it well. But the easier swing to control is certainly a more gentle swing. I've tried swinging the ball at crazy speeds and striking it 100% out of the middle and it doesn't make a difference to my distance. And when i say crazy speeds i mean crazy speeds, when i missed the timing i really pulled a lot of muscles.

Weight Distribution???
William Le Wolf replied to shankopotamus's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
With the 70/30 setup do you find that you sway your body from one side to the other? If you do the ratio's like you mentioned then it sounds just fine but starting 50/50 is more of a balanced place to start the swing. And possibly you will gain some extra distance with more weight on the right foot at the top of the swing. I didn't get my extra ball height and distance until i actually changed my weight ratio like i mentioned in the previous post. Along with ensuring that i turn my hips. -
Driver distance differences

Definately go with the straighter one. Low scoring is all about consistency not how far you can hit a ball. -

I prefer to stick with the same ball forever. Changing balls all the time would effect the consistency of my short game for sure. -

How far do you hit your irons? With this setup you are missing out on a lot of distance. -

William Le Wolf replied to hippyboy's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have never focused on doing anything with my wrists... If your're a right hand player imagine hitting the ball with just your left arm (For lefty right arm). On impact your arm and club face should be the same as it was at the starting position. Then hit through at the target line and hold the finishing position. As a practice routine i would hit shots with just my left arm, when you can hit the ball 150 yards with just your left arm and an iron you are doing pretty good... Add your other arm and just hit the ball as if your're still only using the one arm. Also as a warm up routine i will take practice swings with just my left arm and sometimes with 2 clubs, depends how stiff im feeling. I found at one point in my golf i wasn't turning my hips enough on the down-swing, so when i got to the top of my backswing the next thing i would start doing was to move my right knee left towards my target. This hip rotation gave me a huge boost in distance and the flight of my shots changed from low to high prenetrating shots. This may sound or look silly to you, but it does work. -
This is where every learner golfer goes wrong. They all want to hit the ball 300 yards+ and they all think the way to do it is to hit the ball harder or as hard as you can. You don't need to hit the ball hard at all! By swinging harder it is a lot harder to keep your balance and if you don't keep your balance you will be hitting the ball all over the place... If you swing really smooth and gentle it will go further... Distance is all about technique and not how hard you it the ball.

I find i putt my best with a putter which is low in weight. The Scotty Cameron i have is way too heavy and i just switched back to an old PING putter i bought about 15 years ago.

Start off by checking your alignment... -
Weight Distribution???
William Le Wolf replied to shankopotamus's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My Weight Distribution for All Full Swing Shots from a flat surface (Right Handed Player) . Starting position 50% Left Leg / 50% Right Leg. Top of the back swing 10% L.Leg / 90% Right Leg After hitting the shot 100% Left Leg / 0% Right Leg For short game i am 90% Left Leg all the time. -
slicing my tee off left, help!
William Le Wolf replied to putput's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Wait... Your a Lefty so your weight needs to be on your right leg when you finish and hold the swing for a few seconds. A large reason for hitting shots all over the place is usually due to balance, If you have your balance and you hold the finish there is not a great deal that can go wrong. You could be trying to hit the ball too hard. Nice gentle swing and hold the finish. -
What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
William Le Wolf replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
I just returned to playing (hence why i am not on TV) and yes i want to be playing on the PGA Tour this time next year. Playing great golf is a lot about the way you think and if you don't believe in yourself you will never be anything more than what you are now. There are hundreds of 4 Handicap golfers in every club and they're all missing that important thing to move on to the next level :) -
slicing my tee off left, help!
William Le Wolf replied to putput's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hey post all you want, these people complaining and moaning are just idiots. As for advice: Have you tried completing your swing and holding the finishing position for a good few seconds with all your weight on your left leg? Have you checked your alignment? -
First time i have properly practiced in 8 years today and i haven't lost a great amount of consistancy. Im striking the ball 90% of the time but the odd shot i hit about 20 yards off target to the right. All shots are flying straight and really high. . I aim to Practice my short game and 3 irons every day for the next 6 months. . Win the Club Championship . Play in some non-pro events. . Then try to Turn Professional by this time next year.

What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
William Le Wolf replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
Come on... What are you jealous? I tell you about my story and all of sudden i've pissed off a few club golfers who have been stuck at the same figures for years. And i know what it's like to "want to be a big hitter" when every one i played with was hitting the ball 300 yard range consistently and i could only hit the ball 200 range due to my physical size at a young age. Yes i intend to to turn Pro once i get my consistency back. As for wether i will be making it or not we won't know until i try. Lots of people i know who have turned Pro have given up when it got tough. -

What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
William Le Wolf replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
I didn't read distances that other people hit. But i wouldn't expect many people to hit the ball further than 300 yards. You have to strike the ball very well to hit that kind of distance. I can't use my driver at ranges because i hit it too far over the other side (which is a bit like my game, sometimes i hit the driver too far and it runs into trouble. Hence why sometimes we have to play irons off the tee). There are a lot of PGA Pro's that are quite short hitters. Low scoring has nothing to do with how far you can hit a ball... It's all about getting it in the hole in the least amount of shots. -

Does the left arm have to be straight
William Le Wolf replied to ANTC's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My left arm stays the same throughout the full back swing. From the starting position to the top with No extra bending.
