He has used the exact same putter since 99, he's been quoted numerous times saying this. It has a red logo on the heel of the face and on the back. He only has the gripped changed and from this article it appears the guys at Nike do it for him. In 98 he used one of Mark O"meara's back up putter for at least the British open. He says this on his DVD collection. Article: Tiger not ready to pitch favourite putterStar not panicking after uncharacteristically poor effort on greens in last two tournamentsDoug Ferguson ASSOCIATED PRESS Published On Fri Sep 4 2009Email Print Republish Add to Favourites Report an error Share Article NORTON, Mass.–Tiger Woods created a slight stir yesterday morning on the TPC Boston when a Nike representative approached him on the first tee carrying two putters. One was the Scotty Cameron model that Woods has used in 72 worldwide victories and 13 majors over the last 11 years. That's the putter he was using when he missed one crucial putt after another on the back nine at Hazeltine to lose the PGA Championship, the same one in his hands when he missed a 7-foot birdie putt on the final hole last week at The Barclays. The other putter that Rick Nichols brought him was a Nike model. Woods studied it with a meticulous eye, leaning the putter on its toe as he looked down the shaft. Is the world's No. 1 player so frustrated that he is willing to finally change putters? Is he fed up with missed putts that cost him a chance to win the last two tournaments? Not quite. Woods was only checking the alignment of the grip on his backup putter. He prefers it to be one degree to the right, which slightly closes the blade on impact. This grip was too square, and the glue had already dried before Woods could twist it where he wanted it. He has several backup putters, which hardly anyone ever mentions. "That's because I haven't needed it," Woods said. Woods is nowhere near panic mode with his putting. Even though he didn't win his last two tournaments, he still has 12 top 10s in his 15 starts on the PGA Tour. Besides, Woods felt more at home during his pro-am round at the Deutsche Bank Championship on a course where he has won and finished second twice. Here is a pic of him winning the 99 pga with his current putter:

Hey everyone, Just wondering what steps are needed to become a golf pro. I realize there are golf programs you can attend, however i am currently in school working towards a business degree. Is it possible to become a pro with a business degree and then some type of certification? Basically i would like to become a golf pro, but there are currently no programs offered in my area, and i would like to complete my current degree and not have to move. If someone could outline the steps i need to take that would be great. Thanks!

Hey man, you have a nice swing, and good speed through the ball. If you let anyone tell you that you can't then you never will, so stick with it. However, always be open to advice. Most is useless but some is helpful. The only thing i would tell you is that you have a pretty strong grip, which makes the club dead shut from the beggining of the back swing right to the top. After impact you turn your wrists over pretty quickly. I would guess your ball flight is a power draw and when you miss it's a hook? From your positions it looks like you may have trouble hitting a fade. If you were looking to improve i would say weaken your grip a bit and take the club more straight back and not to the outsideso much....take it for what it's worth. Also if i were to compare you to a tour player it would be Dustin Johnson, you have similar body types. Copy his moves and you can't go wrong. Good luck, and work hard. -
I have noticed the same thing...He always sets up with his feet slightly open to the target, However, all the announcers and even Tiger himself say that he sets up square.

Golf has A LOT of stupid rules. In USGA or PGA, LPGA play etc. it is important that they are held up perfectly no matter how stupid they seem. One of the great things about playing in fun, or casual tournaments is that you can turn a blind eye to some of the bad ones. Did your opponent sign an incorrect score card? Tell him, fix it and move on, don't disqualify them. Did they accidently tee up 2 inches in front of the markers? Move on...or tell them before they hit it. Did he tap out aftyer you gave him a putt? Who cares, the putt was given and thats that. In casual everyday play the rules do not need to be upheld perfectly. If someone intentionally cheats, by all means it's a penalty, if not, inform them and let it slide...

How can I get better at pitch shots?
TigerCent replied to gsu_paintballer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Try chipping with a pro v1. Spins better than anything around the greens. You will notice a big difference. Chip your normal ball and then chip a pro v, you'll be impressed. -

It is no problem seeing someone do it from the left side, at least it was fine for me. I never once found myself struggling with it in that regard. It didn't even cross my mind as i was watching it. Honestly it is a great DVD. The putting section was just OK but the chipping/pitching was amazing. -
Line on ball as a putting aid
TigerCent replied to jfrain2004's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I've often wondered about this. I am in the same boat as most. When i line it up it feels wrong when i get over the ball. My guess is it means my alignment is just off. However i feel like it is hard even on short putts to line it up properly. I find it interesting that the pros seem to easily line it up, sometimes in a second or so. Then when they stroke it, the lines rolls pefectly so obviously they stroked it along the line they aimed it. How are they able to line it up so properly...? Practice i guess... -

Spend the money and get Phils short game dvd. I have never been as good as i am no around the greens after practicing his technique 3-4 times. It has also iomproved my full swing, really helps pure contact with irons.... -
Putt with more pace. You have to trust your stroke and ram the short ones in the back, this will insure that the holes effect the role less. Unfortunetly if you miss it often means another tester over the bumps and holes again! Good luck!

Seeking critiques on my swing (video)
TigerCent replied to timthetortoise's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If you have junior clubs then yes i would advise new irons. However assuming you have adult clubs they should be the right size. I am 6'0 and use standard length. Tiger is 6'1 - 6'2 and uses standard length. Of course there are slight differences in arm length, leg length etc. but i wouldn't say its something you need to purchase if they are adult clubs. Like everyone said you are hunched over. Try bending at the hips instead of the back. Work with a mirror until you look similar to the pros you see on tv. It will feel very awkard at first and you will hit shots thin but keep with it. Second your club face is DEAD shut at the top, this is where your hooks would come from. Your grip is very strong. It is possible to play this way, but you need to make sure you fire your hips as hard as you can from the top of the backswing and feel like you are not releasing the club through impact. If you would like to be more consistent try weakening your grip (i.e. turn your left hand counter clockwise) there is a lot of info about this online and it may be worth weakening that grip at least a little. Good luck! -
Full and partial swing wedge spin
TigerCent replied to Titleist Man's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Try taking more club. Instead of hitting a full 60 degree from say 100 yards hit a 3/4 56. Or take a 3/4 9 iron instead of hitting a pitching wedge. Choke up and inch or 2 and swing smooth. This will take off spin and also give you more control. -
First i would pull a different club out of thast rough A couple of things i noticed. - If you find yourself hitting it too high try setting your right shoulder a little higher at address (so your shoulders are more level) and move the ball back slighly (maybe an inch). - Like others stated you need to maintain your wrsit cock. This should bring down the flight and add distance. Try hitting wedges by cocking your wrists and ripping the club through with your left hand, this will give you the feeling. - set your wrists a little bit sooner on the back swing, this will help you maintain a better angle on the way down. Nice swing!

There is a brief over view of it at tigerwoods.com in the fitness section. There are a couple of good online videos on Camillo Villegas workouts. Most likely pretty similar. Just google it.

Mickelson DVD: Secrets of the Short Game
TigerCent replied to gogolfing's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have to disagree here. I just watched the dvd yesterday and thought it was pretty helpful. He actually completely simplifies the short game. He shows how he only uses one method the "hinge and hold" to hit everything from a tiny chip, to a bump and run 9 iron, to the huge flop. Really simple AND effective. Tried it out yesterday. I was already doing something similar, but this was even better. If you watch highlights of Tiger around the greens he uses the same technique. A perfect example is the famous chip at 16 at the masters...hinge and hold. Phil delivers the whole thing with a funny and light hearted approach. The putting technique part is pretty different than most instruction. He advocates the ball being outside and forward of the eyes. Pretty tough to get used to, i tried it but it is too big a change for me for now. The advice on green reading is good, not great. He offers good drills and a good short game plan in general. It's also great watching him hit the shots, he'as a master to say the least. I would recommend it! -
I have to agree. In todays game you have to go after it a bit. I would say if you are just starting off, swinging 80% and getting a feel for making good contact is important, maybe even slower at times. However, once you have gained the ability to make contact consistently it is important to find a speed that works for you. I think some people do better going after it and some do better swinging slower. The whole swing slow hit it farther just isnt true, i guess i would say "swing SMOOTH hit it farther." If you are able to make the same contact swinging hard as you do when you swing slow the ball will go farther, the key is to practice swinging fast. If you do this you will learn the timing necessary and be able to make the same contact. If you practice swinging slow and then try to crank it up on the course you will definetly suffer mis-hits and less distance. I to tend to hit it off line when i swing slow and try to aim it. I guess in the end try it all and see what works!

I do! I was fortunate enough to attend with one of my friends. It was the first and only pga event i've ever been to! What an incredible experience, i feel so lucky to have gone to this specific event. We are heading back this year to Beth Page to hopefully see some fireworks again. Nothing can compare to that Saturday afternoon Tiger had and all the excitement Sunday and in the play off...wow!

Hands correctly rolling through impact
TigerCent replied to kfowler's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just something i found from golf digest tiger tips, kind of gets at what i was saying and gives some nice swing thoughts. Tiger Tips: Extend for power and accuracy Turn your head to the target New look: My head doesn't stay down well past impact. Edited By Pete McDaniel and Mark Soltau Photos By Dom Furore August 2007 One of my main keys to hitting the ball farther and straighter is full extension down the target line. Reminding myself to "shake hands with the target" gets me in the right position. Examples from other sports--baseball batters, hockey players and bowlers, to name a few--also help me visualize extension. Some players flip the right hand through impact to try to get more clubhead speed. That kind of flash speed would have negative consequences for me, mainly inconsistent distance control and accuracy. Instead of extending down the line, these players flip the handle, the left wrist breaking down and the right hand crossing over the left. I want the club to release naturally. I've even amended my "shake hands" visual: I'm learning to look at the target as I'm shaking hands. I tend to hook the ball when my head hangs back, so to keep everything moving together I try to get my head and eyes turning through with the club. My friend Annika Sorenstam does this, and it seems to work for me. -

Make sure you keep the back of your left wrist flat. Then simply imagine yourself shaking hands with the target with your right hand. The ket is keeping that wrist flat or you will just hit snap hooks. Good luck!
