Earlier in the summer I was playing the same 4 courses and my handicap was down around 7.0, but recently I've been trying to play new courses and have also taken some weekend trips and played courses that would never be in my normal rotation. Now I'm probably playing to a 9 handicap. I generally don't shoot as well on a new course, but iI don't care. I play golf to have fun, not to make a living.

I was terrified walking out of the store with mine...until the first time I took them to the course. Pure. Butter.

New putter.....I think Golf Galaxy made a boo-boo!

They have excellent deals from time to time. I paid $350 for my MP-67 irons -
how do "you" define high, low, mid handicap golfers?
Thaddy replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
I agree with this, except for the range of the low handicap golfer. I fit into the description of the low handicap, but my actual handicap number would place me into the mid range. I'd say a low handicap golfer is single digit. /emoticons/a4_sad.gif" title="Frown"/> -
Awesome balls. My local Golf Galaxy still has some in stock and I pick up a few dozen every time I stop by. They are on par with the Pro V1x but have a firmer feel and better durability.

Yeah, I'm not really his son though, just his red-headed step child I'm just joking though, he's not my Dad. Although, my real Dad used to do that drill...

I've been using my 46" Callaway BB460/ProLaunch Blue combo a lot lately since my XCV-G is on the bench while I decide what shaft to purchase. Whatever I decide upon, it's most likely going to be cut down to 44.5" or 45" and will be heavier than the ProLaunch Blue. I have seen excellent results with Grafalloy products, so it'll probably end up being the Platinum or Red. That's if I don't splurge on the Motore F1

Yeah, he's my Dad, where do you think I got the tip?

Stick a glove under your left armpit and take some practice swings. If you can release the club properly and roll your wrists over, the glove shouldn't fall out. My dad always did this while taking his practice swings before we would tee off.

I try to swing as hard as humanly possible. My 150 yard club is a 58* wedge, which usually results in a divot the size of a young child.

New wedges next year, thinking of shafts...
Thaddy replied to sp33d's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've never been too concerned with having matching shafts in my wedges. That being said, I have a set of 52/56/60 wedges on the way from Scratch, the new 8620 model. They're cheaper than the Vokeys and you get to choose from a variety of lofts, grinds, grips, and shafts. I got my initials stamped for free too! I highly recommend checking them out. -
Sign me up, I'd be all for dating an LPGA pro. "Man, you're so bad at golf I'll bet my wife could beat you! I'd bet $100 she takes you to school..."

Do you cock your wrists early or late
Thaddy replied to jfrain2004's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I do this as well. Along with playing the ball off of my back foot it helps me from getting to "handsy" and ensuring a downward strike on the ball. With my other clubs, I have a low takeaway so I tend to cock my wrists late. It just makes the transition to my downswing a bit easier. Honestly, I don't see why it matters. As long as you can create a bit of lag and release the club before impact, who cares when you cock your wrists? -
I dont get it...distance question.
Thaddy replied to Msokol13's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What is your swing speed? Me thinks that shaft/driver combination isn't suited to your swing. I'm sure the range balls and wind were a factor, but you could be leaving yardage on the table with that setup. -
I've heard that a driver with a shorter shaft length will greatly increase the control. I believe Sergio is now playing a driver with a shorter shaft. I assume you will give up some distance, but I'd rather be 280 out in the fairway than 300 out in the long stuff.

Asking Single Digit Handicappers, What's Your Worst Score for the Season?
Thaddy replied to Happy Dragon's topic in Golf Talk
I followed up a pretty solid 76 two weekends ago with an 88. This past weekend I went from a 91 (at a really difficult course) to an 82 the day later. Golf can be cruel, but rewarding at the same time. -
I hope you brake 100, because the speed limit is only 65.

Left handed but swing righty... pros and cons?
Thaddy replied to cstorms's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This is interesting, because I'm left handed and I golf right handed. I can't think of any major advantages, but when I'm not drawing the ball I can hit it fairly long (280+) for an amateur. -
Sound on a driving range mat of a clean downward strike
Thaddy replied to drocpdp's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yes. It's certainly possible. I wouldn't want to practice my iron game on a range mat, though. -
I love making those 3 footers. Not only is the sound of the cup dropping in the hole satisfying, it's nice to know that if I'm ever in a pressure situation where I have to make a 3 footer, I can. People that take those gimme's are putting 0 confidence in their putting stroke and their ability to make a simple putt. When put on the line, they'll eventually choke.

I played a round last weekend that started early in the morning on a humid day. There was a lot of moisture in the air and I was teeing off with my 15* 3-wood. Now, I happened to be striking the ball great on this morning, and could hear the whizzing sound on each shot. It was very cool, my Dad was getting a huge kick out of it and would laugh after every tee shot. Another great place to go to hear this sound is the driving range, especially if yours has an upper level where you can stand and listen to balls whizzing by under your feet.

This post seems to contradict the graph in the first post. You're saying the maximum score on any hole you can card using ESC is +2 (or whatever your ESC is) above the hole handicap? Using myself as an example, the first post indicates that the maximum score an 8.1 handicap player could card is a double bogey on any hole, irrelevant of what the hole handicap is.

Your ball is spinning, but it's horizontally, causing the ball to slice. There are many things that are probably causing the ball to slice, none of which can be diagnosed without seeing video of your swing. How fast is your swing speed? For one you should probably be using a higher lofted driver if your swing speed is slow enough to warrant using a regular shafted driver. Something that's at least 10.5*. That will help create more backspin, but the root of the problem lies within your swing, not your driver or balls.

You want to explain that?

I would assume a single digit handicap hears that sound quite often... It is a good sound though
