  1. I like the idea of a joint men's and women's event. But why does a current event need to change? A new event created with the sole purpose of joint men and women's competition makes more sense. It can start of small... like "The Match" events that Phil and Tiger have made successful and go from there.
  2. I've posted this link in a few other places in the forum, but it keeps coming up as relevant for a lot of different discussions surrounding golf balls. Its about the most objective data you can find about golf ball compression at different swing speeds. The actual data can be found near the end of the article (middle of the page, the comments at the end take up a lot of space) if you'd like to try to draw different conclusions than the author does in the main article. But long story, short, the data shows that a ball that is long off the driver for a 115 mph swing speed is also long off the driver for a 85 mph swing speed. And those balls are higher compression balls. The Best Golf Balls | Golf Ball Buyer's Guide | MyGolfSpy Always play your best game. Not sure if that's what you're thinking.
  3. Day 25 (7,13) - Back to full swings. Trying to hammer home my work on the takeaway and forearm rotation in the backswing. Really starting to feel good about my progress so far. Consistently better ball striking than even a week ago, and ball speeds on the launch monitor are 5-6 mph faster than last week too. A few more days of good results, and I'll get a new swing thread post up to see where I'm at.
  4. Day 24 (6,12) - After shoveling 6 inches of wet snow, didn't have the energy for full swings today. Instead practiced some putting with the smart ball. Tried to use the same initial move I've been working on for the takeaway in a full swing for the initial move in the putting stroke.
  5. Day 23 (5,11) - Rented a practice bay at the PGA store. Wanted to get a better idea of ball flight than hitting into a net. Also hit the driver for the first time since overhauling my takeaway. Overall, I was pleased, but still have a long ways to go to where I am able to repeat this takeaway and backswing every time.
  6. Day 22 (4,10) - Same idea as yesterday... really trying to hone in that forearm rotation in the takeaway and backswing. Used the smart ball today.
  7. Day 21 (3,9) - Same idea as yesterday... Pay attention to my grip with the left hand and forearm rotation in the backswing. Feeling good about it.
  8. Day 20 (missed 2 and 8 days ago) - Took a look at my grip. The club was too far down into my fingers with the ring finger and pinkie in the left hand. Got the end of the shaft right under that lower bulb on the wrist, and felt a much better connection between both hands and the club. That combined with something I recently watched in a Clay Ballard video about the forearms in the takeaway, and I finally felt like I had the control I want in the takeaway. Had a good few swings today. Tomorrow will tell if this is a real change or something I happened to feel my way into today.
  9. I wasn't necessarily referring to the industry as a whole. More individual events. The ratings for a regular season game between top 10 teams is going to come close to a regular a season NFL game. Revenue from gate attendance for a Michigan/Ohio State game is going to come close to a regular season NFL game as well. Ratings for March Madness games are right up there with NBA playoffs games. My point is just that inferior "skill" or level of competition for an event doesn't automatically have to correlate to lower revenue potential. I also hesitate to say LPGA players are less skilled than their PGA counterparts, while also conceding its hard to come up with a better single word. Players on the LPGA have come as close to maximizing their abilities as possible, same on the PGA tour. So I don't think they are less skilled. They just have less powerful tools in the toolbox. I also enjoy watching LPGA every now and then as well. But for a reason I haven't seen mentioned yet... their game more closely compares to how I work my way around a course than the men's game. When an LPGA player is 145 yards out with a carry over a bunker, I can much more closely relate to that shot, and how I would play it rather than a PGA player. I'd love to hit a wedge, but its not in my tool box.
  10. This is a tough one, just because its so hard to predict what is going to happen 20 years from now. First, its great to see everyone understanding here that purse size is based on sponsorship revenue. Purses won't be equal until sponsors are able to raise the same amount of revenue for an LPGA event as a PGA event. And it's not debatable. "Doing the same job" is not an argument here as many of you have already stated in a clear and respectful manner. I did vote for in 20 years. But its just a maybe in 20 years. It depends on what happens between now and then. If a truly transcendent talent and marketing goldmine comes along on the women's tour, that would be a great start. And if there is further collaboration between the PGA tour and LPGA tour like joint events to create more exposure to the LPGA athletes for the golf viewing population, I could see a reasonable path to get close in 20 years. That's not a prediction, just a scenario I could see happen. I agree with this to an extent, but just to play devil's advocate... men's college athletics (basketball and football) is a clearly inferior game to the professional versions, but yet, at the highest levels of NCAA competition, the revenues rival the professional sports. The NCAA is able to create a compelling product despite much less talented players. Now the leap to apply this to the LPGA is the tricky part. I don't have those answers. But it is possible to create a compelling, yet competitively inferior game. I do not believe this is as easy a solution as just getting more women to watch golf, and therefore the LPGA viewership will rival the PGA. Women are valuable consumers, you are correct. But everyone is trying to market them. If more women watch golf, the PGA is going to do what they can to have them watch the men's game too. Yes, naturally, if more women watch golf, a higher percentage of them might be naturally drawn to the women's game, but a lot of them will watch the men's game too. The solution isn't the demographics of the viewers. Its making the LPGA product as compelling as possible.
  11. Same. Usually happens on Sundays during football. I delete as well, but mostly because it affects the recommended sleep time. And therefore throws off the performance metric and bedtime suggestion. But if sitting and doing nothing for 90 minutes is the same as a nap, then there's nothing to worry about. But I dont think it is.
  12. Day 19 (missed 1 and 7 days ago) - Missed posting yesterday despite practicing. 2nd so far since starting. Need to be perfect for the next 3 weeks if I'm going to hit my goal of keeping it active all year. Today, was partial swings with the smart ball.
  13. Your situation still calls into question the accuracy of or the confidence we should have in the recovery/hrv numbers. In reality, your SWS cycle occurred when it occurred. And thus, your HRV in the last 5 minutes of that cycle was what it was. However, if the change in the algorithm can change the estimate of when that was and have it result in a 25% change, then what does it really mean? I've had a similar debate going on about my numbers. I actually manually start my sleep activity when i lie down to go to sleep. Last night, that was 10:15 or so, and I know i didnt actually fall asleep until close to 11. However, my whoop data counts 10:15 to 11:00 as light sleep with only one occurrence of "awake". Does that mean lying still in bed while awake isn't any different than light sleep? If so, thats fine. If not, then the same thing holds where the baseline calc could be off, and that changes the rest of the metrics. Yes, that is a better answer. Still uncomfortable with a 25% difference in recovery.
  14. Just spit-balling here.. but what I think must be going on is that whoop is calculating SWS cycles against some sort of baseline. If the baseline calculation was affected by shifting the start of the sleep period, perhaps that affects when and where it calculates the subsequent SWS cycles. That's just a guess at trying to make sense of it, though.
  15. I'd rather ride, given i trust the driver knows how to handle himself or herself in a cart on the course, etiquette and such. If I don't trust the person, I'd rather drive.
  16. Day 18 (of last 19, 5 in a row) - Kind of an unstructured day of swinging. Trying to feel the different things I've been working on. I think I'm getting to a good place in at least understanding how I'm attempting to put together my swing, and how to make alterations from swing to swing. Hopefully soon I'll get back to my swing thread and get a priority piece defined.
  17. Day 17 (of last 18, 4 in a row) - Did some putting with the smart ball. Also felt like my weight was ending on my right side, so I worked to feel like my weight finished on my left. Tried stepping down on my left heal to start the forward stroke. Seemed to feel pretty good.
  18. Day 16 (of last 17, 3 in a row) - Used a rocker board to help with weight shift. First time using one, didnt feel great while using it, but swings after using it seemed pretty good. Getting close to putting up some progress on my swing thread.
  19. Day 15 ( of last 16, 2 in a row) - Chipping in basement on carpet using smart ball. Maintaining the triangle and accelerating through the ball.
  20. Day 14 (of last 15) - Forgot to post yesterday, but worked on takeaway. Today, again worked on takeaway with smart ball at 50% and 75% swings. Added in the feel of starting the downswing with the lower left side of my body to create the feel of lag.
  21. Day 13 - Did a few takeaway drills and a couple practice swings before going out and playing 9 holes.
  22. Was above 40 degrees in Chicago today, so I made it out for 9 holes. Not sure what I shot becasue i didnt keep score. After a GIR on the first hole, it became clear it wasn't score keeping conditions. Still had a blast getting out and playing!
  23. Day 12 - More backswing work. Every day is getting better and better. Still not to the point where I'm ready to move on to the next part of the swing. Plan to keep doing drills daily with a few full swings at the end of each practice session.
  24. So we have some common ground! Finding a cheap yellow tour ball was my motivation as well... which led me to Snell and Maxfli Tour. As far as getting an objective opinion on golf ball performance, ill refer you to this test done by MyGolfSpy. Maxfli Tour performs just fine. The Best Golf Balls | Golf Ball Buyer's Guide | MyGolfSpy Always play your best game. Read the Golf Ball Buyer's Guide from MyGolf Spy to always get the best golf balls. Read more so you can improve your game! Did you play the green Maxfli Tour? If so, I agree I don't care for it. It comes in a matte finish, and its just odd. I much prefer the more traditional finish they put on the yellow.
  25. Day 11 - Continue to focus on the backswing. Using the Smart Ball is getting easier and easier. Having a lot of confidence that I'm getting to the same spot at the top of the backswing over and over again.
