  1. Anyone have any reviews of their putters? I'm currently putting together a piece meal set based on recs from my local PGA pro and y'all, of course. Nonetheless, a putter is next on my list. New Pinemewdow putters are approximately $40.00, and the PGX line interests me. Any reviews?
  2. For me, Miller Lite and Four Roses yellow label probably take the cake. I enjoy Four Roses on the rocks. I also enjoy a Bulleitt neat, and 1792 is solid for the price as well. I'll dabble with Wild Turkey 101 every now and then. I also sincerely love a well-poured Guinness or spicy Bloody Mary. Y'all?
  3. I'm currently trying to piece together a good set, keeping in mind my play-style (high handicapper with a rough slice). I need "game improvement" irons which are rather forgiving. Also, for whatever reason, I don't hit hybrid clubs particularly well, and my strong slice seems to be exaggerated when using the hybrid club I currently own. Therefore, rather than purchase a "complete set," which almost seem to have at least one hybrid club, I'd like to purchase a whole set of irons (3 - PW, at a minimum). Does anyone have any experience with Wilson Pro Staff irons? If so, or if not and based off of your knowledge of the clubs, how would you rate them for novice use? They meet my criteria, as they're oversized and relatively inexpensive. Here is a link to a new set (3 - PW) on Ebay for $100.00: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wilson-Mens-Pro-STAFF-Accuracy-Distance-Golf-Clubs-Set-LH-Left-Hand-NEW-/301738250883?hash=item4641005283%3Ag%3AGLYAAOSwNRdX9Fbf Thanks in advance, y'all.
  4. Hello y'all. My last round was on Black Friday. On about hole fourteen (14), a ball was above my feet, and I really got into the earth. My arm became a little tight at that point. Flash forward a few days and my arm is swollen and badly bruised. My arm was stiff, and I had some pain in the middle of my elbow. The bruise covers the entire inside of my elbow and is on my bicep and forearm. Actually, the bruise has spread to my mid-forearm as of earlier this week. My brother, a doctor, diagnosed me with golfer's elbow. I took his advice and stayed off of the course this weekend, which wasn't a terrible decision, since it was rainy and I had to attend a wedding. There is still some residual pain, short, achy little bursts of pain, but I attribute that, at least in part, to the cool and damp weather invading my hometown. Overall, however, I haven't been in a ton of pain with this injury. The bruising is horrendous, however. My elbow looks like I was shot with some sort of shotgun using rubber pellet shells. Basically, how long should I wait to get back on the links? I've been stretching my arm a lot (utilizing various stretching positions) and I've rested it well. Your thoughts as to if I should hit some balls at the range Friday and then play Saturday? I'd like to avoid future issues, so I can continue playing and improving my game. Thanks in advance.
  5. I've been hitting the range two to three times per week lately, so I've significantly improved my ball striking capabilities, especially with my middle irons. Furthermore, I've been hitting the practice green regularly, and my putting is one of the better parts of my game. I still struggle off the tee, especially with a three wood or driver. My slice is still rather out of control. I also struggle in and around the greens, and have tendency to run the ball too far with a chip. I shot an honest 104 last Friday with my dad and brother (no mulligans). I only lost two balls as well. I played bogey golf on a few holes, especially on the back nine (holes 10, 11, 12, 14, 17, and 18). All in all, I shot a 54 on the front nine and a 50 on the back nine, so stamina isn't an issue (and it shouldn't be, as I'm 27). I'm currently in the market for a new irons set, and then I'm going to add wedges and some woods (thanks to help from TST members). Considering the foregoing, and the practice I've put in, I'd hereby submit the following 2017 Golf Goals: 1. Control tee shots, especially with a wood. I'd prefer to stay in the short grass approximately 66 - 75% of the time for par four and par five holes. I'm gaining confidence and ability with my irons, and hitting from the fairway with a direct shot at the green will greatly improve my game. 2. Control touch around the green to the extent I stay on the putting surface approximately 75% of the time when chipping/attempting a shot from within thirty (30) yards. To do this, I'll need extensive practice at the chipping/putting area of the driving range. Furthermore, I believe I could use a sand wedge for shorter, more delicate shots. I currently have the bad habit of blasting balls over the green with my pitching wedge, and I'd like to alleviate that. 3. As I'm fortunate to live in a warm clime and there are some sixteen (16) golf courses within 60 miles of my home, I'd like to play at least thirty (30) rounds next year. Furthermore, many of my colleagues are golfers. 4. Break 90 at least once. My most recent round (Black Friday 2016) was a 104. Given 12+ months to hone my game, I feel as if this is a reasonable goal. 5.Join a local country club or a local golfing association. The local golfing association is significantly cheaper than joining a country club. I feel as if this will allow me to professionally network my services, make new friends, and improve my game simultaneously. 6. Get a handicap below 20. 7. Hit the range/practice facility at least once per week. Hit at least 25 balls with woods, 25 balls with low- to mid-irons, 25 balls with mid- to high-irons, 25 wedge chips/approaches, and 25 putts each week.
  6. Hello y'all, I'm coastrat. I'm a weekend warrior golfer, and I've never been particularly good. My handicap is currently in excess of 30+, which is why I'm here. I'm a lefty, and I'm in the market for new clubs; I'd appreciate any and all suggestions for complete sets, or "piecemeal sets," in the $200.00 - $300.00 price range. Once I can secure new clubs, I'm going to visit the local PGA pro and go through a few lessons. The golf course up the road from my house is a nice course, and the PGA pro there offers three lessons for $180.00. In the meantime, I'm going to work on ball striking and limiting my horrendous slice. Currently, I'm seeking direction on how to limit, tame, lessen, etc., my slice, as it is pretty darn strong and almost always causes me to go far left and in the rough or woods off of the tee. By the end of this year, I'd like to get to where I can hit the ball in the direction I seek to about 7/10 times. Furthermore, I'd like to become a more consistent ball striker. I hit about 100 balls at the range at least two times per week, but sometimes three. Some days are better than others. I'm learning that I'm rather comfortable with my 9 iron, and I'm attempting to get that familiar with my 6 iron. I hit my 3 wood pretty well, and my putter is sporadic. I generally refrain from using my driver and hybrid club (which takes the place of 2 - 5 irons for me), as I have little control over the ball with them. I don't get to play as many rounds as I'd like, but I know for a fact that I'm playing at least six rounds in November or December. Long term goals are simple: become as good as I possibly can, given my specific time and financial constraints. Realistically, I'd like to become a bogey golfer by the end of 2017. Another long term goal of mine is to have great swing posture and smooth movement. I'm a lanky, long-armed guy, and I'd like to use that to my advantage, if possible. Personally, I'm a Southerner (and damn proud of it), and a huge SEC football fan. I'm also an attorney and my firm specializes in commercial litigation (which is a fancy phrase for businesses suing other businesses). I've always heard that deals are closed on the golf course, yet I've never experienced that phenomenon personally. I look forward to meeting y'all and becoming a better golfer.
  7. I've been looking into that as well. One of the best courses in my area offers six lessons from one (or more) of three PGA Class A pros for $300.00. The nearest course to my house offers three lessons for $180.00. I still may buy a new complete set rather than a "piecemeal set," as it will be slightly less inexpensive. Any quality complete sets you recommend? Callaway is a name I'm familiar with, as is Top Flite. What about Wilson?
  8. Thanks bud. I'll look into the eBay used club selection.
  9. Hello y'all, new member here. I am poor golfer (25+ handicap) seeking to better my game. Currently, the clubs I own and use are a cheap, $140.00 complete set from Academy Sports. These clubs suit me well as of this moment, as I'm mostly trying to correct my horrendous hook and become a more consistent ball striker. Nonetheless, with Christmas on the way, I'd like to purchase some quality golf clubs which will further my goals: to get my handicap down to 15 by the end of 2017. What complete sets do y'all recommend at a $250.00 or below price point? If there is a way to avoid a complete set, and piece together a quality bag of clubs for less than $300.00, I'd be interested in that too. Also, if you recommend any free online tutorials, please share. For the record, I'm a lefty and about 6'1. Thanks in advance, and I look forward to your responses.
