Can anybody top a monkey? I started playing golf in Kenya and our home course was full of them. The cutest thing was seeing a baby monkey attached to the mother monkey on her belly, just wrapping its arms and legs around its mom. They're so common that the course's symbol is the monkey.

I've played Rattlewood many times and I've always liked it. Just haven't gotten over there for a couple of years. Where are you in MD, vr6t?
-
I've had three: - Sinking a wedge on a par-5 - Hitting a par-5 in two and sinking the putt - Sinking a six-iron from the fairway on a par-4

Has clubfitting helped you?
EngineerGolfer replied to CarlSpackler's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Disclaimer: I didn't read the whole thread, just the topic, but clubfitting for me has been absolutely the best thing. I have been playing with the same set of Ping Zing 2 blue dots for 15 years; they are perfect for my height and arm length so I've never had a reason to change, plus they are such high quality clubs. Ping was one of the first club companies to institute a fitting system and it is well worth it. -
Shot a 45 in my league match last night. Typical score for me at this point in the season. Only got 4 points out of 12 because I played a sub to whom I gave two strokes and he beat me straight up 44-45. Highlights: on successive long par-4s, hitting pure 185-190 3I shots from the light rough to the green/fringe. Overall ball-striking, while not as pure as last week, was consistent and I did not face any trouble all round. Lowlights: putting was abysmal and probably cost me three strokes. From the upper tier of a two-tier green, on in regulation, I FOUR-putted the hole for a double bogey. First putt, downhill, I putted the ball OFF the green. And after being on the green in regulation about 20 feet away on the one of the afore-mentioned par-4s, I didn't even sniff the hole with my first two putts and walked away with a bogey. Oddity (not that odd but still): my 45 was comprised of nine 5s. I bogeyed all five par-4s, double-bogeyed both par 3s, and parred both par-5s.

Hello all, If you're in the greater Washington DC area and would like a game on Saturday, I have reserved a tee time on Saturday at 7:20 am at Little Bennett in Clarksburg. I have three spots open right now, first-come, first-served. Any takers, reply to this posting! thanks.

This reminds of the time that I went to the old Kemper Open at Avenel back in '90. I went with a high school buddy and when I showed up at his house to pick him up, he was dressed in dark blue jeans and a dark shirt (this was early June in DC so it was going to be at least 85 deg. that day IIRC). I laughed and said he should put a pair of shorts on; he said he thought it was more formal than that. I guess if it's your first time going, you don't know, although the web site might give some info about dress code for spectators. Speaking of dress code for spectators, you can catch some pretty good scenery of the female kind if you follow the groups of some of the younger players (Adam Scott, Aaron Baddeley, etc.). While not scantily-clad, their clothes will fit well in the right places.

Resurrecting this old topic that I found in the archives, because it made me think about all the courses I've played (with the number of times just for grins): Kenya: Nyali Golf and Country Club Mombasa Golf Club Malindi Golf Club Royal Nairobi Country Club Karen Country Club Iceland: Nesklúbburinn Keilir Golf Club One more whose name I can't remember Virginia: Greendale Twin Lakes: Lakes Twin Lakes: Oaks Pinecrest Jefferson District Burke Lake Pohick Bay Algonkian Brambleton Herndon Centennial Reston National Penderbrook Country Club of Fairfax Mount Vernon Country Club Springfield Country Club Westpark Goose Creek Fairfax National Birdwood Virginia Tech Blacksburg Municipal Castle Pines Maryland: Annapolis Golf Club Eisenhower Bay Hills Enterprise Potomac Ridge Twin Shields Queenstown Harbour Lakes Queenstown Harbour River South River Diamond Ridge River Run Bay Club - East Timbers at Troy Laytonsville PB Dye Worthington Manor Whiskey Creek Hollow Creek Musket Ridge Maryland National Rattlewood Links At Challedon Maple Run Frederick Golf Club Clustered Spires Rocky Point Fore Sisters Ohio: Ridgewood Fowler's Mill Highland Park Seneca Locust Grove Manakiki West Virginia: Canaan Valley Cacapon Colorado: Estes Park Florida: Cypress Creek? Thanks JT. I am a mechanical engineer by education (B.S. and M.S. with a specialty in control systems). Now I work as a Chief Systems Engineer on software system development programs for various DOD programs.

Micah, you're thinking of Musket Ridge right off of I-70. I have played Musket multiple times including the Solstice Survival in 2005 (54 holes in a single day) and have always loved it although it is a bit too penal for my taste with the tall fescue rough between many of the holes (although the fescue is pretty far off the fairway). I play at Hollow Creek in Middletown for my weekly Wednesday night league (to answer Gus's question). I'll play Clustered Spires usually once a year (nicely maintained City of Frederick operated course), and get out to Musket, MD National, Worthington Manor on a rotating basis every couple of years. I'll also venture down to Montgomery County or play in Fairfax or Loudoun counties after work too.

How many see the club make contact with the ball.
EngineerGolfer replied to pherg's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'd like to think I see the club make contact but at my blazing fast clubhead speed (he says facetiously) it's hard to tell. Honestly as a P.P said, my head stays in the hitting zone then comes up naturally as the swing follows through. -
My 3I on the last hole of my match last night. With darkness closing in, from about 175 to a back pin, hit it pure as could be to about 10 ft and lipped out the birdie putt.

Shot a 48 in my league match last night. The Good: - Four pars including two of the best irons I have hit in a long time and two long, straight tee shots - Two bogeys, one of which was a bogey that I saved with a tricky short putt - 16 putts and no three-putts The Bad: - One double bogey (chunked a greenside chip and couldn't recover for a bogey) The Ugly - Two snowmen on par-4s, completely ugly play and out of character with the rest of the round. Still cleaned up in my match though. My opponent and I were dead even in hole-by-hole points and in total strokes with two holes left, and I won the last two holes with pars to pick up the last five points. Especially gratifying was the last hole, a par-3 playing about 180. I clubbed up to a 3I because of the damp conditions and the pin in the back, hit it to about 10 feet and lipped out the birdie. Awesome way to finish the round on a high note with a great iron shot like that.

IceDave, which course do you play in Iceland? My dad was posted at the embassy in Reykjavik from '93-'95 so we played a bunch of courses when I visited: Ness Golf Club, Hafnarfjordir (sp?), a course built on volcanic rock whose name escapes me, and I'm sure I've missed some others.

How many clubs do you use to chip with?
EngineerGolfer replied to svchiefs19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Depends on the situation. Anything from 5I to SW. Last night in my league match I was about five feet off the green on a par-5, lying three in the fringe, with the hole about 20 feet on the green. On a dry day I would ordinarily putt the ball without thinking about it, but with the dampness of the ground, thought better of it. So I took a five iron just to get it over the fringe then roll like a putt. Worked like a charm, hit it to three feet and sank the par putt.
