  1. I think you'll like them quite a bit. I just can't find anything close at that price point, and I would take the U4/x over anything. Post a follow-up and let us know what your impression!
  2. My home course has a practice bunker/green next to the parking area. We were packing our gear one afternoon, when a lady skulled a ball out of the bunker and nailed my buddy's SUV. Her and her spouse just looked at each other. No one apologized. Very respectful, huh?
  3. We need to keep this going...the fiscal cliff approaches...what now? Will the leaders of our country turn their eyes to the one man who has the answer? Will America cry out to that man in our time of need? Only one thing can save us...one man with the cure for our ailments... Jack Hamm and the Dr. Knockdown 80* super duper flip flop wedge and serving spoon!
  4. Wilson FG Tour and FG Tour X are great!
  5. Maxfli U/4 and U/4x. The U/4x is for the higher swing speed crowd, and is my personal preference. I have found it to be the longest off the driver and have just the right spin off the irons and wedges. You can make it check nicely on short pitches and chips, too. These balls are BOGO on the Dick's Sporting Goods website right now, so you can pick them up for less than $20/dozen.
  6. Rock Bottom Golf is good. If you're looking for new, try DiscountDansGolf.com. Purchased my irons and C130 bag from them. Great to deal with!
  7. I can only comment on the R9 irons. I currently play those, with Dynamic Gold X100 shafts. I love them. I am not looking for a forged club, or a blade, but I don't like tremendous offset and wide soles. These irons fall directly into the middle. Very long, very forgiving. I hate the standard TaylorMade velvet grips, and replaced them with Medallist wraps. They're available at Golfsmith for $1 each.
  8. Check Ebay. Lots of Torsion Control's available...
  9. Well, it sounds like you know you're specs (-1/2" length, 2* flat). Now you can shop wherever you want because you have a better idea what you need. You can find some good deals on clubs, even the AP1's. This makes lessons AND new clubs a reality... I don't play the AP1's, but they have received some really good feedback...
  10. These are not blades. The MPI rating has absolutely no real world indication for how forgiving these irons are. I love mine and will not part them any time soon...
  11. Graeme McDowell, -11
  12. Quote: Yes, Puma does still have Ricky. It would greatly benefit Cobra if they could lure him away from Titleist, but he's so into his custom circle T putters it will be difficult. What about Geoff Ogilvy? He used to be a Cobra guy...what is he playing now?
  13. Camilo fits the TaylorMade marketing strategy well. I'd like to see him play a little better now. Cobra/Puma better get their act together if they want to stay in the club manufacturing business. First Camilo, then J.B., they've really only got Ian Poulter left. I'm afraid that if they neglect proper endorsement, they'll fold. Shame, too, because Cobra makes some good equipment.
  14. I stand corrected. But I would still bet against it. Tiger is struggling with the short game. He's not making those 8-12 foot putts that one must make to contend in a major. The swing is still inconsistent, too. I don't think he can find lightning in a bottle twice.
  15. The statement was win, not finish top 5. He will not win the Masters.
  16. I would.
  17. 14 par 4/5's, we have fairway bunkers (all in play) on 11 of them. The most difficult shots come from the hanging lies on top of the bunkers...ohhhhh boy.
  18. Excellent call on the R9's. I believe you will be very happy with them.
  19. DiscountDan'sGolf.com is great. I ordered a set of custom R9's last year and save quite a bit, and just ordered/received a Sun Mountain C-130 from them. Saved a nice bunch there, too. I highly recommend them. I've purchased from Ebay as well, and look for ratings and "power sellers" like everyone else. Here's a hypothetical situation that might better explain the benefit of using "fitted" equipment, and there's a difference between "fitted/custom" and "expensive". For argument's sake, let's say your 6'2" tall with a bit of a steep swing because of your height. If you're playing standard length/lie irons, chances are your going to hit the ball to the right even when you make perfect contact. With a slight adjustment, you can really see a significant impact on your ballflight. The benefit is hitting better shots. Just because you get custom or fitted equipment doesn't mean it has to come with a huge investment. I went through a pretty simple fitting 3 years ago, and know what specifications I need to play my best. I just look for those modifications or have them done when I buy something new. If you're just getting back into the game, you should really give it a try!
  20. OP, great post. E'rbody, good choices! Myself, I'm gonna go throwback adult contemporary. Day 1: Christopher Cross/Sailing; Day 2: Jim Croce/Bad Leroy Brown; Day 3: James Taylor/Fire and Rain; Day 4: Simon and Garfunkel/Sound of Silence. Some suggested "theme songs" for select touring professionals: Tiger Woods: Any 2Live Crew song, but probably Me So Horny. Natalie Gulbis: Ciara/My Goodies. Tim Herron: Lady GaGa/Born This Way (just feels right).
  21. Perhaps a simple drill would help with the proper transer of weight: try building up your stance on the outside of your right foot (assuming you swing righty). This should help you feel a push off onto your left side and maybe eliminate the reverse pivot. Sounds like you have a little mental issue with trying to hit the driver too hard as well. Oh, man, I do that. I can really be hitting the ball well (for me) and get crazy quick with the driver. Good luck!
  22. I play the R9's and love them. Forgiving enough for me. Wilson makes some really good irons, too. I would recommend trying stuff out before you buy, if you can.
  23. Tough love time. Driver swing of 85 to 90 mph is slow. If you are truly swinging the driver at that speed, I have some doubt your 7 iron is actually going 150. It's OK, most golfers think they hit it a little further than they actually do, myself included. We're in this together, my friend. Now, swing changes/corrections aside, you want to max out your clubhead speed. Why not consider a driver like the Adams F11 or TaylorMade Superfast? They come with a longer shaft, which WILL help you add some mph to that swing. You may want to change your ball, too. If you're playing a ball like a ProV1 or Srixon ZStar, you're not swinging fast enough to compress the core. Perhaps switching to a little "softer" offering will add some yards to your drives as well. Good luck!
  24. Well played! One more...it's the 25th anniversary of Jack's last win, so we'll get to see the replay and hear the "Yessir!" call 189 times. Jack, who has completed his grouchy old man training, will nip at Jim Nantz with a sand wedge, drawing blood on several swings...
