  1. If you want to call someone out for focusing on their strength, something that probably makes golf more fun, then way to dampen their day. I can hit the ball as far as you are mentioning, but I also can be pretty wild. I would gladly exchange distance for control. If I only thought about how big my slice is, rather than one area that I can stick out in, I would have stopped playing by now.
  2. If you end up going to Golf Galaxy, become an advantage member on their website. There was a coupon I found the other day that was spend $500 get $100 back, spend $250 get $50 back, or spend $100 get $20 back, this definitely made my iron buying more enjoyable.
  3. Went to the range with this thing today. I can definitely feel the extra-stiffness in the shaft. After hitting it awfully like 20 times, I got used to it and began to feel more comfortable. This thing felt nice whenever I got in a groove, lets just see if I can actually replicate that groove more often than not (this is doubtful).
  4. I loved my Cleveland CG14. Out of all the clubs in my bag (excluding the Scotty) it is my favorite... sooo much control. I've never hit the Vokeys, so take my suggestion lightly.
  5. Well, I purchased the Titleist. They had an extra stiff and a stiff one, both pre-owned. I hit both of them after deciding I wanted a Titleist. I ended up with the Extra-Stiff, due to the distance increase (according to the computer I was hitting 275-280 solidly). 909 F2 Extra-Stiff 15.5° for $104 after using my $20 coupon from Golf Galaxy, not bad. Man this thing is pretty.
  6. I have the Sumo 5900. I love this club. It's not as far as some of the other clubs I hit (TM and Callaways), but I my shots were much more controlled. Since control is my biggest weakness with my driver, the Sumo won out. I am glad I chose it after going to the range today for the first time with it.
  7. I just bought a Nickent 4DX Ironwood 3. I love this thing. I went to the range for the first time with it today, and after a few shanks to get used to it, I got into a groove. It's almost unfair how forgiving and easy to hit it is. Nickent's are also very solid Hybrids for a pretty affordable price... mine was barely used at all for $70.

    Kids And Sports

One thing I like about Golf is a 55 year old can beat a 22 year old... You can't say that about any other sport. Although, to my Dad's chagrin, this is slowly starting to change.
  9. I would compare Jordan and Nicklaus personally. Both of them set the standard as without a doubt the most dominant player in their sport. They set records, won championships, and became the most recognizable person for their sport. Now Tiger and Lebron are hoping to reach their level/have already reached them (depending on how you feel about each athlete).
  10. I may check that out. On a side note: where are you from in St. Louis? I went to school up there even though I am from TX.
  11. I have looked everywhere for these. I went to many different stores and every place was out. They also checked online for me and said the stores in the area are also out. I guess since it isn't made anymore and is still so popular that demand simply eliminated them from my area. Maybe I should go check out Dicks/Sports Authority to see if they have them.

    Age

I am 22. I started playing when I was 9 or 10. I played until High School, which is when other sports took priority. This also happened in College. After graduating in may, I have picked up Golf again and am regretting choosing Baseball, Soccer, and Rugby over Golf back in the day.
  13. I need more control. I am a pretty big hitter, and would gladly choose a club that is forgiving over another that will add 10 yards to my ball. I sacrificed the distance I was getting with my dad's Burner for the control I found in the Nike Sumo. I only lost a few yards, but everything I hit with the Sumo is straight, with a fewer number of slices, which only happens when I rush myself and resort to some of my old bad habits. I have found the Ping to be slightly more forgiving than the Titleist, but I like the feel/look of the 909 whenever I am standing over the ball. If it matters the Ping also has a Fujikura shaft. How much does a different shaft benefit clubs such as these? Thank you for the congratulations... it is definitely nice that the biggest decision in my life right now is what 3W I want to buy. In regards to the Callaway - I hit that thing as well (remember: kid in a candy store), I loved the distance I was getting with those clubs, but for some reason they just felt awkward when I was hitting them. I prefer to feel as comfortable as possible and even though I could have eventually enjoyed them as much as my Sumo + whatever 3W I pick, I shied away from them for that reason.
  14. In my opinion, you can compare Tiger and Lebron for their respective sports. Both are the "Kings" of their sport. They have also helped to revitalize their respective league/tour. However, even without Lebron there is still Kobe, Dwayne Wade, and the interviews with Shaq to keep us entertained . Just as there are still the proven veterans and new players on the PGA that keep older viewers and gain younger ones as well. Even though they are both perhaps the most dominant player in their sports by a long shot, it would still be competitive and fun to watch without them. Now, would we be missing a person to call ourselves when we dunk on a 7 foot basket or sink a 20 foot putt for birdie and do a little fist pump..? I know I would.
  15. So for my college graduation present my parents agreed to help pay for a new set of clubs. After acting like a kid in a candy store for 2 weeks at Golf Galaxy/Golfsmith I had narrowed which clubs I wanted and purchased them. The only club I am currently stuck on is a 3W. I have narrowed it down to either a Ping G10 or a Titleist 909 F2 . At my local golf galaxy I found both of them, very lightly used, with stiff shafts for around $100. I am leaning more towards the Titleist, but am open to people's opinions/experiences with either of these clubs. Thank you for your assistance!
  16. My family officially owns the asian car market... Me: Toyota 4 Runner 2000 Dad: Honda Pilot Mom: Acura TL Sister: Honda Civic Brother: Nissan Sentra I love my car and am very thankful for it. I want this beast to last me till 200k, at 113k now.
  17. It all depends on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to put on muscle, eating you body weight in grams of protein is a good start. Stopping yourself from eating after 8-9 pm, except for maybe a protein bar/shake can help you shed a couple of pounds. You should also become best friends with tuna, chicken, turkey, nuts, peanut butter, skim milk, wheat bread, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. If you set up your various meals around these foods and stay moderately active, I guarantee you will lose weight. I say this because I recently lost 30 pounds by watching what I eat, not eating at night, running a mile a day, and spending about 1-2 hours in the gym each day.
  18. I am a personal trainer and love lifting - I guess that explains how I go about staying in shape. This isn't always good for my golf game though, as I am almost always sore from the day before whenever I try to go out and play.
  19. Said the same thing at 18. I had been dating the girl for nearly 2 years. I ended up calling it off before going to college. In retrospect, I enjoyed college a lot more than my friends who tried to stick together with their girlfriends in a long term relationship. You will change a lot at school and so will she, so its not worth hindering yourself with a person 4 hours away. You will especially thank yourself after you meet "that cute girl who sits in front of you in class and lives on the floor below you," trust me.
  20. I'm young, so what can I say, it won't always be there . Now my control... lets just call it a "work in progress."
  21. I couldn't agree more. When you are starting out golf, the best possible thing you can do is take lessons. I was best at golf when I was 13-14 because I was instantly pointed in the right direction on how to do everything when I started at age 10. Anything an instructor tells you to do when you are that young gets absorbed and sticks with you. After taking a 6-8 year complete break from golf and then returning(other sports took priority in HS and college), I am still comfortable with my swing/approach thanks to my instructors I had when I was just starting out.
  22. Just graduated college with a B.A. in Biology. Currently working as a personal trainer on my "year off" (perfect excuse to play a lot of Golf ), then going to Optometry School next fall.
  23. I was just estimating based on my two experiences with the club... On the range I was hitting the 180 with my buddy's X-22s, then when I was hitting them at Golf Galaxy on the computer (I don't even know how accurate these are) my ball would end around 200, hence why I listed the numbers as such.
  24. Another DFW-er here. What courses do you usually play around this area?
  25. Like the poster above me said. If you like Callaways, look at the X-22s. When I had to narrow down to what Irons I wanted, it was between them and the Nike VRs. I loved the control I had with the Callaways, and even saw some distance with them (7 iron carrying 180 and finishing 200), needless to say I was impressed. The only reason I chose the Nikes over X-22s was because I saw the same control and more distance with them.
