I am 35 this December and started 2 years ago, never been into golf all my life then got the bug, shame really as my dad has been a teaching pro all my life and tried to get me into golf form a young age but I was never interested. Anyway best advice he gave me as an adult learner was to get lessons and custom fit clubs from day 1 as at 33 I did not need any bad habits as they are harder to work out at this age. So I had some lesson from a pro my dad sent me too (dad lives mile away from me so not practical all the time) he fitted me for my clubs and away I went. I had about 5 lesson form this guy and now I just get on with it, if I get any issues I go see my dad and he ALWAYS fixes them. After two years and 47 rounds I am off 16.8 which isn’t bad, I broke 100 and 90 in one round when I was off 28 at the end of the 1st year and there was no stopping me after that. I now shoot 85-89 most weeks with the odd 90-95 now and then but our course plays a SSS of 74 on a 70 handicap. I always said I will be happy with bogey golf at my age but when I play bogey golf I normally end up with as many pars as double bogies so that evens it out. I guess over time more pars will creep in and the doubles will become single bogey's which will = breaking 80, then I will be a happy man for ever and enjoy my golf even more.

I carry and had them two years ago when I took up golf, the nice ones with a zip, just to stop the clanking when carrying but they got on my nerves after a while taking them on and off so they are at the back of the garage

Hit these at a range this week and all I can say is Mmmmmm think I need to get a set. I have been looking for new irons to replace my G10's now I am down to 16.8 (club handicap is 13.4 after I carded an 86 on a par 70 that plays 74 SSS) and was after the i10's, I have also hit the Mizuno MX200/Nike V Split Forded and did not get on with them as well as the i10's so they were for me, that was until I hit the i15's The i15's still have the forgiveness I require (did not get as much forgiveness off the Mizuno's or Nike's) but with a lower and more penetrating ball flight than the G10's. I am gonna go hit them again just to make sure as I only hit the 7 iron, so want to hit a 4 iron and wedge. The 7 iron I hit was standard set up so when they are set up to my specs they will be even better. Think I will be spending my lunch at the range tomorrow I just wanted to see if there are any other irons I should try?

Me and my golf buddy don't like being paired most of the time, we normally play at around 10:30am but last Saturday due to him needing to be home early we tee'd off at 07:30 and only one 2 ball in front of us and no one behind for ages, it was great, took our time when we needed to and no hold ups when we were going well Needless to say the next 2 weeks are booked for 07:30 Now this means getting up at 06:30 on the range for 07:00 and on the course for 07:30, but means we are off about 11:15am and home to spend the rest of our Saturday with our young families

I have the Tour W in 52/56/60 and the 52 is my 100 yarder, I also use it for shorter chips (50 yards and under) I use my 56 for 80 yard shots and longer bunker shots, and 60 out of green side bunkers

I play the G10's and they have been great, you can fell it when you hit the ball sweet and when you don't so they give feedback, they do look a bit clunky but does it matter what they look like if they work for you? They are long as well, Ping make great irons and always have. I am looking at changing to i10's or i15's as my ball flight is very high with the G10's (they are designed to get the ball up for beginners mind) and this is causing me issues when it is windy, my driver and woods flights are fine so will be looking at new irons next year some time hopefully.

I am gonna give this a go this week me thinks

I am doing this also, not all the time, sometimes off the tee/ground with an iron (never woods or driver) and other times dead straight, I am working on stopping this as it means I am always left of the green pin high, so always a bunker or some rough to chip over instead of a nice 2 put for par :) I think with me it is a lack of body turn through the swing so my arms come around me as I strike the ball, will be working on hitting down the flight line on the range this week with a smoother more relaxed swing. Failing that I will get my dad to take a look at me as he is an "Old Pro" :)

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Ash1974 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Well on my last but one trip I got a Nike Dymo Str8 Fit driver, it came with a £60 voucher so got a Nike Glove, Nike Dry Fit Trousers and some Nike socks as well, then bought some Bridgestone and Srixon Balls on my last trip. -
That I can help on, you have to make about 5 posts to be able to do things like post a thread, have a signature etc. Read the PM that was sent to you when you joined and the FAQ and it explains it in there

Great site, look forward to posting on here for help and with answers if I can. I am Ash, been playing for two years now, I should have started as a young lad as my dad has been a Pro Teacher all my life (now retired apart form teahcing me and my playing partner now and then) I have never been interested until 2 years ago, what a idiot hey. Anyway I am down to 16.8 so playing off 17. I am a member at the Celtic Manor, as you all will know the venue for the next Ryder Cup I don't play the 2010 which is the Ryder Cup course as I don't have £3000 a year to throw at membership. I play the Roman Road and Montgomery courses every Saturday and Wednesday’s after work (9 holes) when I can, my wife calls her self a golf widow and my two kids = daughter says "not golf again" son can't speak yet so don't say much apart from Gulf Anyway that is enough waffle for now, hello all

I got my first bag to match my clubs (all Ping at the time) then it got on my nerves every time I pulled a club out another would come with it or sometimes they would not go back in the bag so brand loyalty went out the window. So a new bag was in order, I carry and wanted a bag that had 14 way full length dividers so was kinda limited, I found the Nike SQ Tour Carry Stand Bag and it had the 14 way dividers I was looking for, as a bonus it is black and yellow so looks great and the features of this bag are just what you expect from Nike, loads of pockets, ball holder etc so was a happy man :)

Play at the Celtic Manor, played the Roman Road today and shot 88, not too bad it is a par 70 with a SSS of 74 apparently, lowest score is 86 around there so a good day, Tee'd off at 07.30 and it was nice to be out on a course with no one about, and the sun was shining :) Played well, drove the ball great and loast a few Irons left (pin high though) but my 50 yard ish chips were crap, over bunkers I fluffed them into the bunkers or thinned them over the back :( bump and runs were fine though. Oh and lost a ball just left of the fairway (first cut of short rough) on a second shot (6 Iron) saw it land and no bounce so I can only assume it went under ground as it vanished which added a couple of shots to that par 4 and ended up witha 6 :(
