bump for those who haven't seen that Golf Logix is letting you try their GPS for 24 hours free on select smart phones (blackberry, iphone, etc). Used it 2 days ago and it saved me several strokes... Worth every penny!

definitely depends on the school. If I didn't play baseball I would have played golf for my school. Back then I shot high 80's and I would have made varsity. crazy I know.

sorry I think reaching was the wrong word. My butt of the driver was about 3 inches from my body before now about 7 inches. My swing with the driver now has a much more natural feel to it.

yeah that is what I did as well but now I would say I am "reaching" for it a little.

that is really funny as I said the same thing to a gentleman at the range today... though you must be doing something right with a handicap like that.

I was at the range today with a focus on improving my driving when I think I figured out what my main issue is. I have always had trouble when figuring out how far to extend my arms at address. Until now I have had more of a "relaxed" (closer to the body) approach with the driver... . So now today I hit some balls with my arms further away from my body and my consistency is a lot better. So how far away are your arms from your body when driving?

awhile back I adopted the "Don Trahan" swing. One thing Don stresses is that the club does not have to be parallel in your backswing... instead go three-quarters (75%). With this swing there is no "cupping" of the risk either vs. the parallel one. It has worked great for me knocking off about 5 strokes from my handicap. And apparently Don has studied the physics of the swing and there is no velocity gained from a full swing.

I just wish my range had grass I could hit from :(

head is getting in the way ;) My take on it is... at the range people have the mindset that says "hey if I don't hit this ball good, it's ok because I can just try again." Whereas on the course you know if you screw up then it will cost you a stroke... which in return usually leads to people over-analyzing everything about their swing rather than just hitting it as they do at the range. And hitting balls at the range can be very deceiving. What I mean is if you hit 50 balls with your driver chances are 15-20 of those will not be great drives. Sure you are hitting a majority of them good but you are also hitting a lot more balls than you would on the course with your driver. So therefore when you only hit 10 out of 18 fairways it feels like a crappy day of driving but in reality it is just as good as your day at the range. That is just my .02 wow what a mouthful. lol I am sure it won't make sense to some people what I am trying to say.

I play 18 holes at least once a week. I hit up the driving range though about 4 times a week. My range has a really cool special that when I buy balls Monday - Friday before 6 pm they give me double for free.
