  1. What 7 under and only 1 birdie putt? So they chipped in 6-times? Thats ridiculous. They must've had a career match and I wouldnt worry about it. Thats one where you just shake your head and forget about it because there isnt much you can do with guys chipping in 6 birdies in a round.
  2. I rock a Nike SV Tour 54.12 and its great. I only break out my 60 if I'm not working with much green between the bunker and pin, but the 54 is a go-to for any other situation although I routinely like chipping with an 8-AW to get it to run more so I dont overshoot the hole on a lob shot.
  3. I went with a Nike SV Tour Wedge in 54 and its real nice. Works out of sand, deep rough, fairway, fringe, and pretty much anything else you could get yourself into. I definitely over play it but it gets the job done.
  4. I used to umpire a lot, highschool games. You definitely go by sound on the catch, but the whole time you are looking to see the runner hit the base because sometimes that sound isn't as clear. And you need to be in position to see the ball in the glove on the edge of your field of view also. Usually you can recreate what happened in your head and figure out the call. Even if a "tie" happens you usually can say I heard the mitt a split second before his cleat was down. Its really not as hard to make as you'd think. The hard calls are at the plate. Like did that 80+ mph fastball nick his jersey like he is saying? Did the catcher catch that foul tip before it hit the ground (since you cant see through the guy)? And then even strikes/balls are judgement call usually I go based on how "hitable" they are, such as if a guy throws a 35mph arcing curve that goes through the strike zone vertically, I'm sorry but thats a ball, this isnt slow pitch softball. Anyway got off on a tangent but you get it, tie to the runner is a myth. And if you hear both sounds at the EXACT same second, MLB umps seem to call them out based on if it was a hard play, etc, but I usually think about it as well one of his spikes was touching the base before his weight came down on the bag so hes safe but its just something you can usually tell.
  5. Well I think my logo shows how I feel about the NLCS, but the ALCS has been horrible so far. Honestly today I wanted to gouge my eyes out. The Angels should concede the next 2 games like a 2 foot putt to steve stricker. First I'll say that the Phillies game yesterday made a part of me die. Take Pedro out after 87 pitches? The Dodgers must've came themselves when Manuel did that because thats what they needed to get their bats going since they were being crushed by Martinez only getting 2 hits in 7 innings. I can't wait for the Phillies game Sunday night, their games have always been exciting. The Rockies series had a bunch of back-and-forths and this series has been good too, except for the mismanaging/overuse of the phillies bullpen aka taking Pedro out and then using 5 TIRED pitchers WHO THREW YESTERDAY in one inning only to lose the game. As soon as I saw them pinch hit for Martinez I knew things were gonna get bad and sure enough they did. Its like I'm Nostradamus, maybe Manuel should call me next time before making such a bad decision and then clearing the bench in the bullpen pointlessly when you already lost it when you hit for the pitcher who only allowed 2 hits and no runs in 7 innings. I mean jeez Charlie, only Ryan Howard took the bat off his shoulders and put the phils on the board so far, it was pretty clear to anyone watching that Pedro was doing MORE for the phils offense than anyone else so why pinch hit for the guy? Anyway, I could go on, but to the ALCS. Game 1 was sad. The Angels committed so many errors, I thought I was watching AA ball. In fact, the scorekeeper did as well when he ruled that one ball that fell at the feet of the secondbaseman a hit. The Yankees made them pay by putting up a run for every error (counting the missed popup) that the Angels allowed. Game 2 should have been renamed a charity. The yankees felt sorry for the Angels misfortune of losing one of their pitchers and decided to throw this game it seemed. Giving up 3 errors and allowing Burnett to throw the ball into the stands more than once. However, the Angels must have not gotten the hint as they failed to capitalize on every single opportunity they got. At this point the yankees had no choice but to walk the bases loaded and then throw a wild pitch to GIVE the angels a run. If I was an Angel fan, I would be embarrassed by their performance in this series. The pitching was decent except for Fuentes 0-2 pitch to A-roid. Why you would throw a fastball right in his wheel house (this guy has insane opposite field power from all the HCG he injects into his gluteal muscles) is beyond me, but otherwise they were solid. Then their batting... or should I say lack there-of. They are a bunch of hacks up there. They seem to inflate Abreu's ego saying he has a great eye, yet he swings at bad pitches at bad situations when HE IS AHEAD IN THE COUNT, and then ends up getting out. I swear he doesn't even try to put the ball in play and he seemed surprised that one his hits was playable by Damon in left foul territory. Vladimir (is he spetsnaz?) is just JV up at the plate. He alone left a small army on the base paths tonight after duffing every chance to get a hit. He swings at anything in his zip code and should have never been offered a contract after the Expos were disbanded. Torii Hunter seems to be the only threat in their line up, and thats sad considering he has no big hits this series. Where is the long ball? I know the phillies and yankees seem to manage to put up a couple HRs every game, yet it seems like the Angels haven't hit one since their World Series win in 2002. Its a miracle if they even get a double, let alone a homer. Then lets touch on the Angels fielding tonight. I know it was a meteorology disaster, but that had nothing to do with Aybar forgetting to touch second during a double play or the second baseman throwing the ball into left field to end the game. The announcers seemed to think the umpire not calling the "neighborhood" rule on the double play was harsh, but he touched the bag on every other attempt in the game and you gotta drag the foot across the bag IF YOU REALLY WANT THE LEGIT OUT, everyone who has played middle infield knows that, you cant rely on some unwritten rule that really isn't even a rule as much as it is a shortstops' wet dream. Then the play to end the game, common guys that guy is not scoring if you just get the out at first. Then you have 2 outs and a chance to get out of the inning. Why would he try for a lead runner who might have beaten the throw and meant NOTHING because if the guy on 3rd scores its over, and they would have never turned it anyway and he knew it based on his erratic throw. In fact, if you didn't want that guy to score watch him back and let the bases get loaded rather than make a throw while your body is moving 15 mph in the opposite direction and the ball is wet and slippery. I guess I should play every position on the Angels and pitch for them as well. I could AT LEAST put together a less ugly loss for them and account for a batting average above magic Johnson's T-cell count. Yankees, you made mistakes, but didn't make them hurt you and got the win, even if it did take 13 innings. -Paul Scott I hope you guys like the write up and don't mind the cynicism! :)
  6. Tee shot today on #3. Took my 7 iron out and really put some spin on it from the looks of that ball mark. My next tee shot went OB so that shot definitely stood out, considering it was the only one that was picture worthy
  7. Thats ridiculous and also unbelievable. I guess if you can only hit range balls at nighttime you are limited heavily but $12 is steep.
  8. Nike clubs are made in china and I can tell you my hybrids are HIGH HIGH quality. the irons are good quality but I don't like them very much. I lost 25 yards on my game from them.
  9. put a spare ball in your pocket. Also helps in the uh oh I cant find my ball... *drop* oh there it is!
  10. my tee shot from the #3 par 3
  11. Nike 11s are small, Ecco 11s are really small and adidas 11 are just right for me
  12. I picked up 3 dozen taylormade burner TPs off rockbottomgolf for around 11/doz and they are really good. I was using Callaway Warbirds that I got even cheaper but the Taylormades are really nice balls. I play One Tour Ds in competitive play but I'm thinking about switching to the taylormades because they are really soft yet seem to come off the driver better.
  13. I picked up a Nike SV Tour 54/12 in sig new on ebay about 4 weeks ago. First day out I hit 2 flagsticks from ~50 yds out. Today I hit another one but this time on a chip (which was good bc I hit it too hard lol). Its a perfect all around wedge. I also have a 60 but that gets hardly any play since the SV tour is like butter. I feel like I overplay this wedge but its only because its so nice. Price is right too.
  14. LOL nice! I found a D2 top flite today on the course and hit it in the water the next hole, I was surprised I didnt clear the lake. Needed a 190 yd carry and got about 185.
  15. Unlimited range balls ftw. I usually use about 20 buckets a month. Normal price is $3.50 for 45 which is about 8 cents per ball but I couldnt do without unlimited. 20 buckets a month would be $70 a month but then again I probably wouldn't hit that many so I wouldnt get as much practice.
  16. Does it hurt when you take a deep breath? Cough? Sneeze? Even when relaxing all other muscles in the area? If so there was obviously trauma to the ribs or intercostal muscles/tendons. Diagnosing a hairline fracture in the ribs is pretty tough. I'm not sure on the sensitivity of an MRI but I know Chest X-Rays often don't pick them up. Here is what you can do. Take some naproxen, max of four 220mg tablets a day in separated doses spaced 10-12 hrs. Thats an anti-inflammatory and wouldnt hurt. Also if it is an intercostal muscle tear, here is what you can absolutely do to largely relieve your pain. Get some cloth tape (first aid section at a pharmacy) and run the tape along this rib, starting at the breast bone (sternum) and continuing to the spine (you can run more than one "line" of tape). Give it a shot as it will restrict your ribcage from expanding only on that one side and give it a better chance to heal. One thing to watch out for is if your breathing becomes very difficult, you need to remove the tape because it may be limiting your lung expansion. Also if you are developing a cough, could be fluid build up in the static lung, in which you would be wise to attempt to cough it up or remove the tape and give it a good cough although it may hurt then. Also it may hurt to remove the tape so get gentle tape if possible and run a few lines of it. Let me know how this works! Also those things to watch for are gonna be very very rare especially with a clean MRI, but just something to look out for!
  17. One round always leaves me wanting to play another. I gotta play at least 8 rounds per month to get my membership fee's worth so I try for that. Right now the weather sucks (rainy) and I've been hurting from overplaying so thats been limiting me. Looking forward to sunday-tuesday when its supposed to be close to 70 again!
  18. I was watching Tiger and Phil play a match and they both flew the 3-wood about 265-275. that is a LOOOONG 3-wood. I think you might be underestimating 300 yards. Thats one heck of a driver shot. I play with a buddy who can hit it that far consistently and its always a hike between my and his balls. Your comment about the courses is good. I think there may only be 3-4 holes on 18 that you could really open up and even try to hit a 300yd driver without it putting you into woods or a hazard on the course I usually play. Even the par 5s dogleg a lot in a way that hitting 250 puts you in the fairway, 300 and your in the woods/water.
  19. egg could be a term for golf ball or something a hen lays? But I'm not sure on the context it was used that your referring to. I don't usually bet on rounds but when we do we play $1 skins but haven't really come up with anything fun. I heard about wolf in this thread and it seems pretty sweet except you might end up getting pissed if a particular player keeps causing you to lose as your partner if the wolf sets you up with him, I guess you'd have to give a stroke in that case but I usually play with some guys who are all 15-25 HCPs so it works out.
  20. I was thinking about this too. i think you should try to borrow one and see how it goes. My reasoning for not buying one is that I'd look like a wimp or something considering usually only old people use the push carts, but I mean that obviously means that they are easier to use and would therefore be the smart option so I'm torn.
  21. I finally got back out on the course after a break the other day. I was usually able to drive it 250ish if I hit it in bounds but last time out I was driving it 200 on a good shot but I kept it in bounds. I had one bad blow up hole but overall played bogey golf which was good for me. The extra 50 yards or more from the tee would have DEFINITELY put me in a place to shoot closer to par given that most of my 2nd shots were from 200+ out giving me little chance to get on the green. I'm not sure of my point because its confusing. I hit longer drives before, but scored higher (more OBs). I hit shorter last time out and scored better. I guess the point is, I don't think its how far you can drive but its how far you can CONTROL your drives. If you can hit 200 yds consistenly straight vs 300 yds OB 1/2 the time then you are better off with the former.
  22. Looks like you have a good swing as a foundation. Now you just have to hone it in through experience, feeling out what works and what shanks/pulls and then going for more serious lessons (possibly with a more serious pro) in the future. A friend of mine just had his first lessons at golf galaxy and he had a 3 day session and he is still working on it. His swing was downright horrible and if he hit the ball over 20yds it was a miracle. Now he is putting up some respectable shots that I believe will get him in the 90s once his lessons are done. Just go out there and get some on course experience. Think about what shots you made and what shots you didnt. Then try to groove a swing that works for you.
  23. Honestly you have very little it seems in order to be well under par with 23 putts. Sure your driver is a little off but hit the range and see what works to just hit it straight. Then work on the mid-irons since you missed basically every GIR and you'll "fall into" a lot more FIR and GIRs. My golf partner (10 HCP) has been working on his mid irons a lot. Last time out he concentrated on hitting the fairways and hit all but 1 fairway. He hits driver straight so that wasnt a problem for him, but after hitting the fairways he let his practice do the work and ended 1 under par. Seems like you just need to practice mid irons, then make hitting fairways a priority. I'm against putting the driver away, and yes my scores have suffered when I'm off my game. But when the driver is good my scores plummet, just hoping I have a round soon where EVERY driver shot is good.
  24. There we go! This is what I was hoping someone had posted when reading this thread. I stop at 8 personally since I have just started logging my scores and was injured on the last rounds I've played so I'm hoping to get back on the course soon and post something in the 80s. One (or even 2) blowup hole shouldn't completely ruin your whole day's score if you are shooting par for example: two 10s would bump you up to a 84 assuming they were par 4s, while taking snowmen keeps you at an 80. Also you put 8 just for etiquette and pace of play reasons as were mentioned above.
  25. Sounds like you are really improving. Youre just at the point where you have to practice the short-mid game and you will start putting the ball closer and closer to the pin, leaving you with shorter putts and more birdies.
