  1. No matter how large or forgiving the clubface is on a driver, the simple rule of physics is, the less loft on the club the more tilt axis (side spin) created. So really unless you are playing a course that is over 7000 yds, a driver is not really needed 14 times a round. Even then when I play courses 7000+, i'm usually only getting the driver out on par 4's that are longer then 460 and par 5's that are longer then 580. Of course everyone would love to be right at 100 yds out in the middle of the fairway on every hole, But why take an unnecessary risk when you can just hitting a longer iron shot into the green.
  2. I would say you never take the driver out of your bag, but it is not needed on every par 4/5. On most courses I play, I only hit driver on 4-6 holes. It's more important to worry about course management then how far you can hit it.
  3. I have to agree, We-Ko-Pa is a must play. And I too will be driving to sit through class everyday as you are off to the courses:(
  4. I used to be stationed on Ft. Bragg, and Ryder has definitely gotten alot better in the past few years. I think I still prefer the Stryker Course on Bragg Blvd. The course on Pope AFB was the best of the 3 but it went downhill quite a bit several years ago, so I never returned.
  5. Those are all amazing courses, enjoy it! I played We-Ko-Pa last weekend and I put it at the top of my list, but you will not be disappointed with the courses you are playing. Hopefully, the weather should be great this week as well.
  6. That is interesting that jack was colorblind, maybe there is hope for me yet. And I know how he feels with having his clothes laid out, I go through the same morning struggle.
  7. So this might seem like a crazy question, and for those of you with normal color vision, I’m sure you have never thought about this. I have a red green deficiency, so without getting into the long discussion I have on a daily basis, simply I can’t distinguish shading changes and some colors blend together. So when I’m attempting to read the green and determine my putt, it is very difficult to determine the break yet alone, the grain or anything else. So I’m kind of wondering if any other golfers have this problem and have a solution or if anyone has any tips on how to read greens differently. Thanks for the input.
  8. Jack is the best by far...Even if tiger passes his 18 majors, Jack still finished 2nd 19 times in majors, top 3 46 times....this list goes on for awhile. In golf its not strictly about wins, you have to look at the field as well. Its the same way the points for the world golf standings are computed.
  9. I would say if you are hitting the fairway with your 3W I would continue to use it until you can get your driver dialed in. Your going to lose some distance hitting the 3W instead but don't worry about that, all you have to do is hit a longer iron. More strokes are made up around the green, so just keep your tee shots in play, and focus on your short game.
  10. I am playing in a 4 club stroke play tourny next week, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on club selection, what type of factors i should think about when selecting clubs. A little bit on the course, it is a desert course, so anything not in the fairway you are playing from the rock hard and stoney sand. It is just over 7000 yrds from the tips. There is an island green par 3 that is 155-175. Putter counts as one of the 4 clubs if you choose to use it. I can putt pretty good with a 3 wood or my wedge.
  11. It is hard to tell what you are doing wrong that could cause a problem with hitting your irons without a video of your swing. But since you say you were hitting your driver well and couldnt hit your irons, I would say that most likely it is your angle of approach. Meaning, you are coming in too shallow on your irons. The angle of approach for a driver is very shallow, but the angle on irons is much steeper. But like I said before without a video of your swing, it is hard to tell if this is the problem or why your angle is not correct.
  12. I have to agree with the "feel" theory... Don't spend so much time worrying about exact yardages. I used to get exact yardages with gps or a laser for all my shots. In the past couple years I have went back to using just the basic course markers (sprinkler heads, 150 stake) and judging the distance myself and relying on feel. I believe it has made my short game (100 yds in) better and it has also made the game more enjoyable, less time spent finding yardages and opens up for more creative shots.
  13. Its not about how hard or how much effort is in the swing. Professionals are able to do a few things that create this power and make it seem effortless 1. They create and hold lag 2. Holding the coil they create and releasing it at impact to apply the lower body power They obviously do much more but these two things create alot of power without taking much effort
  14. I rely on my creative recovery shots to save me when im stuck in the trees...spend enough time in there when your learning you get pretty good at figuring out how to get out.
  15. I just went through it for the past month, couldn't hit anything good. Went through everything in my swing all the way to the basics trying to figure it out....nothing....Then just as easy as it came, I went out the other day and was hitting everything just fine. Its extremely frustrating.
