  1. are you sure? Tax Rates Obama was first elected in 2008 on a promise not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year in family income. That’s a promise he’s fulfilled with only minor exceptions, such as a 10 percent tax on tanning salons included in the Affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, his 2009 stimulus package delivered temporary tax cuts for most working people, and for all of 2011 and 2012, he secured a 2 percentage point reduction in the Social Security payroll tax. For his entire first term, the federal income tax cuts signed by Bush in 2001 and 2003 remained in effect, with no increase on anyone. As of 2013, a result of the “fiscal cliff” dealstruck with House Republicans at the end of last year, the top income tax rate will go up by 4.6 percentage points, to 39.6 percent — the same top rate that applied during Clinton’s administration. The new top rate only applies to family income over $450,000, or single income over $400,000. Income under those limits will be taxed at the same rates set by the Bush tax legislation, plus a bit more in many cases. Persons with more than $250,000 in family income (and singles with over $200,000 income) also face some additional taxes under the Affordable Care Act, including an additional 3.8 percent tax on net “investment income” and a 0.9 percent add-on Medicare tax on payroll income exceeding $200,000. Both of those new taxes took effect Jan. 1. We’ll file our next quarterly update on statistics reflecting the Obama presidency in early June. — by Brooks Jackson
  2. I'm now 100% on board with Rory. We don't expect LeBron to grow basketball or Aaron Rodgers to grow American football or Messi to grow international football or Phelps to grow swimming, etc etc. What is this "grow golf" nonsense? This is the job of the people who make more money if the game grows (course designers, equipment makers, golf course owners/managers, golf coaches). Perhaps Rors has an obligation to Nike, but is Joe schmoe commentator really out to protect Nike? Really? I'm quite sure Nike can take care of itself. Rory's job is to be entertaining on the golf course and, perhaps, off of it.
  3. LOL, wow. Just wow. Talk about delusional.
  4. Did you miss the part where I said "explain the rule to the player"? All of the golfers in the field that these USGA officials are supposedly protecting said no penalty, so......Nah, let's go with random nobody on thesandtrap who insists it's a penalty.
  5. That's my point. The last sentence should not have happened. DJ said no, that's the end of it. It's up to the player to call penalties on themselves; rules officials are there for advice/guidance.
  6. No need to change the rule; simply, ask the player if he thinks he made it move. Explain the rule and then ask if he thinks he more likely than not caused the ball to move. This is game of honor; at least that's what I was told.
  7. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience grouped up. I show up as a single and am typically paired with whoever. Always pretty good people. I typically get along with most. I can handle the talkers and handle the guys who just want to play fast and listen to his headphones. I'm out golfing; it's always good to be out golfing.
  8. yep, just flip on fox news and let that torrent of nonsense wash over and comfort you.
  9. you have not demonstrated anything. all your posts have proven is that we could ban guns just like they were banned in Australia. You posted "look, you can make one part of a gun w/ a 3d printer" and in the same post admitted the rest of the gun cannot be made so easily. This can happen and has happened in Australia. You don't want it to happen. In your posts going forward just change "can't" to "I don't want." Then you will have finally made an accurate statement.
  10. find a new hobby? Lots of changes in the constitution b/c the greater good was served by said change. I'm sure certain people owners didn't want to have to start working.
  11. none of these kits would be legal, so they're irrelevant. A metal 3D printer according to wikipedia is $500k to $1million. Pretty sure that's a product that could easily be tracked/traced and ensured that it goes to responsible people. Saying you can build one part out of plastic. Downloading gun designs would raise the ire of the FBI as well, just like searching for bomb making instructions. I think your research is simply furthering my argument. $300 to $2900 for this when it's 100% legal. Illegal items cost more! A lot more!
  12. did you skip the last 10/15 seconds? no gun consists of entirely 3d printed parts. Did you hear that part? The majority of that is not 3d printed. I wonder the cost/space required to set up an operation to put these together? And again, once said operation is discovered, it's shut down. People thrown in jail. I never said guns would be unavailable, I said EXPENSIVE. I can see joe schmoe putting together the liberator. It's going to take a fairly large operation to put together this 600 round monster.
  13. There doesn't have to be a revolution. Just saying, there doesn't have to be. People can just say "yea, I'm comfortable with this change in the reading of the Constitution." Yep, 50 dead and 50 wounded w/ the "liberator." come on, let's be serious. Best part about that awesome video I linked: gun guy saying "woopedie doo" - at least he was honest. Just be honest, these mass shootings and all of the other gun deaths are outweighed by the benefits society receives from lihu's ability to own a gun.
  14. Criminals who could afford them would potentially still have them. They wouldn't be flashing these things around b/c the moment someone sees it that person is placed under arrest. Simple possession gets you locked up. The world I propose suggests guns are such a valuable/rare commodity that its only used by someone who can afford to lose something so valuable. Your common street criminal does not fit that profile. Off topic, but if we legalize drugs in addition to banning guns, the # of guns in circulation would drop significantly more. Reason being the profit motive for having a gun without the drug trade could never justify the price.
  15. those are my choices?
  16. the entire premise smart guy is "if guns were illegal." that's the whole conversation. he can't buy a gun legally, IF they are illegal. So it would work in his case b/c we're assuming guns are illegal for everybody. Again, you wish these things didn't happen, but you're unwilling to do anything about it. Save, had you been there with your own gun, you would've tried to shoot him.
  17. uh? so an AT BEST $30/hour, and $62k pre-tax income - he can save $20k cash, find someone willing to sell an illegal semi-automatic weapon, with the ammo, with the magazines, and he would have the discipline to to spend at least a year to do all of this? and he wouldn't be caught despite being under investigation by the FBI? you've gone past the realm of reasonable on this dude. if this were illegal, the FBI would've been able to arrest him for simply acquiring the weapon, case closed. only reason he wasn't arrested is b/c he technically hadn't broken a law. You're not reasonable. I just need these gun advocates to say "this is not my problem." just admit it, these senseless deaths are worth the price to you of being able to own whatever gun you want. Cut this nonsense about it wouldn't work b/c it would. Owning these types of guns is more important to you than stopping these types of crimes.
  18. It's "only" $5k b/c it's LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Illegal items cost MORE. They have a RISK PREMIUM!! If I sell this to you, I can go to jail!! FOR YEARS!!! I'm now a FELON!!! Therefore, I command a much HIGHER PRICE!!!! Why would they not have to!!! hell, I can go to jail, just for having this, or having the components to make this (think drug paraphernalia). But these rich people would then have to take their $20, 40, 50k CASH in to back alleys to acquire these weapons!! And would first have to even find someone willing to sell it! This is not trivial. This is a huge risk. How often do you carry around tens of thousands of dollars cash!!!!! It's considered very, very, very dumb to do that. This guy is going to save up $20k cash? He was a security guard, right? Probably doesn't earn much more than $40k in a year! How would he accumulate $20k (and $20k would probably be cheap) cash? And then find someone willing to sell the gun, the ammo, the magazines, etc? Possible sure, likely?
  19. If it were illegal, it would be that high and even higher really. I didn't know that one could cost up to $5k today when it's perfectly legal. It would be much more expensive, up to $50k even $100k, if acquiring those components raised the attention of law enforcement. Drugs are not expensive to make!!! yet they sale for a 2000% markup. Partly b/c even with that markup, they are relatively inexpensive, but also b/c there's a very expensive black market infrastructure the sales have to support. The risk premium is huge. The same premium would apply to guns. I agree some people would make their own, but making their own wouldn't be much cheaper. Simply read Adam Smith the Wealth of Nations to understand why we've gone to mass production/specialization: makes things cheaper. Custom and now self-made, your co-worker's gun would've cost him at least $50k and then the moment he brings it out, it's confiscated. What a way to blow $50k. The "very bright people" would realize that's a huge waste of resources. Better off spending your money on self-defense classes. Or hiring a bodyguard.
  20. not going to watch the documentary; do you have the cliffs notes? I stand by my argument that if an AR:15 sold for $20k rather than $800 or so, there would be much fewer of these in circulation. Simple economics and income would prevent the vast majority of people from having one. Very difficult for your average American to come up w/ $20k especially $20k cash. And then to have the guts to take that kind of cash in to a back alley to purchase a gun? I can't see it happening.
  21. What happens when things are made illegal? The price increases dramatically. Guns are not nearly as transportable as drugs, the demand for guns would not be driven by human chemical dependence, and thus this black market arms ring would not realistically exist. Don't compare guns to drugs. The profit margins would not be large enough to drive this market.
  22. I hit the ball further off of the tee, I have much better control from 50-120 yards, but irons are similar to last year. I've broken 80 now 3 times; shot 76 sunday at my home course and saturday I finished +2 on an executive course. A bad day is now 85 and an 82 has been my "par" for a while now, and I'll shoot that 82 in a variety ways (drive it well, but can't hit greens; drive it poorly, but short game is strong; drive it well, iron well, but chip/putt poorly). Previously 85-87 was "par" and an 82 was a good day.
  23. left front: phone and chapstick right front: extra ball, tees, divot/ball marker right back: empty left back: glove
  24. That's the best part of a brick wall. It always ends the day believing it is correct. Each brick congratulates itself on a job well done as they beat back that which rails against them. But a brick wall is just that: a wall. It's static, inflexible, it can't move. We need only go around it, under, or help each other climb over it. There it will be stuck in the background as we move forward. That which was once "PC" will be the norm. Let the bricks congratulate themselves. We'll move forward with or without them.
