I hope he does too. He is paired with Corey Pavin for the final round...so we get two Dallas guys. Should be a great round and big gallery. I am going to try and walk this round with them.

This may have been said already, but he didn't have a choice. There isn't anything wrong with him trying to qualify, and I wish he could have played his round. But if he would have, the backlash around these parts would have been unbearable for the regular sports fan, let alone Tony himself.

What I have found that works best for me is to line up the ball just a bit towards the heel. When I make my swing it promotes striking the ball more in the center of the club. When I line up in the middle I tend to hit it more on the toe.

I wish they had the e7 on the list. I play the e7 but am wondering if one of the other balls would do better for me. Oh, well. The fit van is in my area so I will hit it up probably tomorrow.

Haney lives in Westlake, TX on the very expensive Vaquero Club. I'm wouldn't be surprised if he has other houses, but I am pretty sure that is his primary residence.

Use the force, Luke, etc. Van Sickle: I already wrote my thoughts on Tiger, but I thought I saw him experimenting with some iron shots, getting a little more upright like the Tiger of old a few times, though his tee shots were usually the same Haney plane. Maybe I imagined that, but I think he's got swing issues and no answers. There was no mention or sign of Hank this week even when Tiger was talking about how poorly he played. I think that's telling.

Source: Tiger to Part Ways With Hank Haney From Sports By Brooks: On March 5 a source revealed to me that Tiger Woods had summoned swing coach Hank Haney to Orlando to monitor the golfer’s practice sessions and that the coach had rented a house in Augusta for Masters week. (The Golf Channel confirmed Haney’s presence in Orlando on March 8.) On March 11, Robert Lusetich of FOXSports.com was first to confirm that Woods would play The Masters. Today, the same source who told me the first week of March that Haney was joining Woods in Orlando and had rented a house in Augusta for Masters week, provided me more news about Haney’s relationship with Woods. The source told me that following The Masters, Woods decided to “part ways” with Haney as his swing coach. The decision was made by Woods to break ties with Haney before the golfer’s disastrous performance at the Quail Hollow Championships this week. My source added that as of yesterday, Haney had not yet been told that he was officially being let go by Woods, but that the golfer would make his intentions known to Haney and the public “soon“. Haney was not at Quail Hollow this week, but in the past, it wasn’t unusual for the swing coach to not accompany Woods on Tour. My source said that Haney attended only “a handful” of events in which Woods played last year. But with Woods struggling so mightily for any semblance of consistency, it was curious to see Haney not available to the golfer this week. Haney was previously seen with Woods at The Masters. With the Players Championship next week and the U.S. Open right around the corner, this is a critical time for Woods so to jettison Haney at this moment might seem like a curious move to some. (But certainly not all.) One wonders if Haney had been invited to Quail Hollow this week, might things have gone differently for Woods?

Umm....not so much. Right. Club head speed is one of the last things you look at. The most important thing is how you swing a club. If you have a slow tempo with smooth transition, then depending on what you want the ball to do and club head speed, you will probably want either a regular or soft stiff shaft. If you have quick tempo and fast transition then you will probably want a stiffer shaft. Then you have to factor in there is not a standard for shaft flex. And even if there was, you will have to factor in where on the shaft the kick point is, what the torque is, etc. That will have massive effects on what the shaft does. I have a set of Adams a7 clubs with a regular shaft. CPM count on the 6 iron is 314. I have a set of KZG Forged III with a Nippon 1050 stiff shaft. CPM count on the 6 iron is 298. Makes sense, doesn't it? I hit the KZG way better. The only way to know what shaft you need is to either be a qualified fitter or go see one.

There wasn't a line when I did mine, but you will want to bring your driver. If you don't know what they do, they have you hit 3-4 drives with the ball that you currently use. Then they have you hit some shots with their balls and show you the numbers and make a recommendation. If you play a premium, they usually recommend one of their 330 series balls, and if you don't they will recommend an e-series. When I did it, they told me to use either the e7+ or 330RX depending on what I wanted to spend. But this is before the updated boxes came out. I kinda want to do it again.

This was exactly my thoughts. Tiger, as great as he is, has had his swing slowly degrade ever since he fired Butch and hired Hank.

As mentioned, there are two types of fittings. One is what you get in the big box store. They watch you swing a club a few times and decide what shaft and club head you need off the rack. Sadly, sometimes the club right for you is the most expensive or one that nets the store the most profit. Usually the person working with you is better than that and will give you the best 'fit' off the rack. They will also look and see if you need the shafts lengthened or shortened or bent up and flat. These fittings run anywhere from free to $50 and usually any cost if forgiven if you buy clubs. I have done this and got a set of clubs that were not for me. I have also done a full fitting by a custom club fitter. This was an extensive process that involved using multiple club heads and multiple shafts. Then based on an interview with me, watching me swing my clubs and then different the different setups he had, a final choice was made to be my new clubs. If you look at my signature you can hit a link to a blog I wrote about my experience. This option is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. The clubs I have are ordered to specific specs of weight, loft, and (on some brands) even specific CPM counts on shafts. To the OP, I can't tell you what it would cost to do this where you are from. Where I am it is somewhere in the neighborhood of $125-150 for irons, wedges, or woods or $275-325 for a full bag.

I don't remember a day on the course where my swing was as bad as today. Shot a 115 and made about 10 good swings all day...one of which worked better than anticipated and 3 of which I was penalized for. The course was set up very short due to wind, but about 14 greens had hole that were 4-5 paces or less from the edge...very very difficult greens that did not roll close to true. I think all our area courses are being penalized for our winter still. Ever hit a shot that was drawing (right to left for me) and when it hit the fairway it bounced back to the right and into a pond that the ball was bending away from? Yep...that happened today too.

So they are a good and proper tool then?

Played in and won a scramble today. One three consecutive holes I made 2 birdie and an eagle putt, each 12-15 feet on garbage greens. You could literally hit the exact same putt 3 times from the same exact spot and it break 3 different ways. But my favorite shot of the day was the first. I hit our first drive and sent it 260 down the middle of the fairway.

Played a scramble today at a cow pasture. Our team shot a -13 (58) to win by a stroke with 11 birdies and an eagle. We finished second last year, the first time any of us saw the course, a shot behind the 'club pro' and course members.

I have one that looks like the third from the left that says PGA Partners Club on it. Good think I've never sued it I guess. Lost my good one and now use one like the ones marked OK....but our greens are usually pretty dry. Guess I need to find a replacement.

He's also got tons of baggage. I think this was Jerry getting over not taking Randy Moss is 1998. As a Cowboys fan...I don't think I like it.

I played an absolutely terrible round of golf today. Managed to hit 6/14 fairways, but only 1 green. Ball striking was terrible and my swing was just off. I don't know what was off...but it was. I also couldn't compress the ball I was playing. I didn't really trust the guy at the golf store that sold it to me, but they were on sale and he said I would be able to compress it. Lesson learned. Even as bad as I played, I still shot a legit 101.

Timberlinks is OK. It is narrow with 3-4 90* doglegs on a 9 hole course. The day I played it it was very wet and you had to be a real good ball striker to score well. If you were fat at all the turf would penalize you. For the price it isn't a bad deal and I probably should give it another go.

No worries. I live north of Denton so I am used to driving a while to do things.

It doesn't have anything to do with the courses you've chosen...I just live that far north. Iron Horse and Riverchase are the two closest tournament venues for me and they are still 45 minutes. The closest courses to where I live that are worth playing are Winstar, Robson Ranch, WestRidge, and Fossil Creek. With the exception of Robson Ranch, they are also all about 30 minutes away. Winstar is in Oklahoma, but it does offer a casino for those interested. It is also $43 with cart and I don't know if they discount walkers or not. Robson Ranch is on 35W in south Denton. I don't know their rates because their website kinda sucks, but it is a pretty decent course. You probably don't want to walk it though. WestRidge's rates on Sunday are 11:00 - 2:59 for $49.00 and after 3:00 $29.00. Both of these include carts and I don't know if they would allow walking. Fossil Creek is probably my favorite course, but it's $49 and I don't know about walking and walking cost. There are closer courses to me, but with the exception of Timberlinks I think they are bad courses (TWU and Lake Park come to mind) or private. Timberlinks is a 9 hole track in Denton. Walking 18 is $19.50 and cart is $29.50. It is a narrow and challenging course. It was just really wet the time I played there because they use reclaimed water from the nearby dump.
