@phan52 funny you say that - my coach has told me to just start practicing the 3-footers over and over until they are red hot and almost automatic, and then start moving to the longer putts. You sound as though you have some experience - but I filmed my last putting lesson with Caroline if you're interested to have a watch: Appreciate the thought @ChetlovesMer – I am in London myself so it might be a bit far to travel 😄

That's all really useful stuff to know @boogielicious– and thanks for dropping that link in. Bead, read and speed is very similar to the "line, read and speed" mantra that my coach has helped start me off with. I think speed is probably my biggest work on currently - do you have any suggested drills for that? Thanks again for the help! Thanks for sharing @Darkfrog, am definitely keen to continue using this putter for some practice for a little while first- I haven't done nearly enough practice yet to expect any decent improvements to will definitely give it some time before I go down that avenue. Seem to be hearing a lot of good things about the Taylormade Spider recently though!

Thanks @Pretzel – at this stage I think I equally need improvements and distance control and my accuracy within 5-6 feet. Both have been appauling last few rounds - so need to balance my putting practice for both. Am aware not to get too carried away with expectations around my make % within 5-6 feet but at the minute I have zero confidence in draining those putts - so am not in a good place. In the process now of finding some good drills for both! Would be very appreciative if you can make any suggestions 👍 Thanks so much for sending this through @StuM – I'll definitely start to track my progress! I'm not sure how soon it's realistic to look at a fitting but I'll check it out. And thanks for the warm welcome 👍 am aware that my username is permanent.. haha it's actually the name I came up with for the YT channel I've decided to document my journey through. Any and all feedback would be very appreciated and most welcome!! Nice one @imsys0042 – I'm feeling the same way. I've changed to a SuperStroke grip, and already feeling a little more confident - just need to do some practice now as well. Will definitely give it a good crack before looking at purchasing a new one etc. -- confidence is so key right!

Thanks very much @Vinsk! It has certainly felt like I've missed far too many putts from within 5-6 feet over my last few rounds, hurts when you get to the end of the round and see what your score could've been without stacking up so many missed putts. I haven't been fit for my clubs, just bought them second hand - I have recently regripped my putter (personally I've found the SuperStroke grip feels much nicer in the hand) but haven't had a really consistent day with the putter just yet). Will give it a bit more of a crack first! Appreciate the help mate 👍

I've just started to take lessons, and I'm definitely starting to feel more confident striking the ball around the course - but lately my scores haven't reflected any improvement because my putting has been shocking. First step for me is definitely to spend more time on the putting green. But am still interested to know from some more experienced players when they decided/ the right time would be to purchase a new putter? Seems an intriguing one to me as once you've practiced enough with one putter, surely changing becomes an adjustment. For context, I'm currently a 21 HCP and the putter I'm using is the Odyssey Tri-Ball SRT Putter. It's a bit of a beast! https://thesandtrap.com/b/clubs/odyssey_white_steel_tri-ball_srt_putter_review Thanks in advance!

Nice - congrats on the progress! Am a couple of lessons deep and have been practicing plenty. Thanks for sharing! I'll check this out for sure! I've been using SwingU which helps as it has a Strokes Gained function - think that might be similar to that LSW analysis? Thanks for sharing. Definitely don't think there are shortcuts that will get anyone down to scratch - but certainly hope to discover some simple tricks that others could use to shave off maybe the first few strokes from their handicap. Thanks for sharing! Am currently working with a Coach named Caroline and she's been great. Have focused so far on just a couple of fundamentals which I didn't quite have correct before. Already seeing a big difference in the quality of strikes -
I'm not sure I'd label myself a superb athlete, but I have played rugby to a reasonably competitive level for many years (actually started playing more golf when that came off the table due to Covid). Have also played a lot of cricket, badminton and tennis etc. growing up so I'd say my hand-eye coordination is definitely reasonable - but I think this could actually be a problem. Playing socially for years I've relied on this as opposed to proper swing mechanics, so might require some fixing

Hi all, My name is Sage and I'm a 30 year-old kiwi living in London, UK. I've recently decided to pursue the (almost) certainly unattainable goal of getting to scratch by the end of next year. I started towards the end of last month as a 22-handicap -- and what I hope to achieve through this journey is discover the 'hacks' that other amateur golfers can use to make the most of the limited time they have to practice and train - if they also wish to start knocking down their handicaps. I'm interested to hear from anyone and everyone that has made a conscious decision to improve their golf - and what tips and tricks they have found to be particularly useful? Would be particularly interested to hear from any low-handicappers that can vividly remember the process/steps they took starting from their days as a mid-to-high handicapper! Thanks so much in advance, and look forward to connecting with you. Sage

Hi all, I have recently undertaken a similar challenge - starting from a 22-handicap towards the end of July, with a goal of getting to scratch by the end of next year. I am well aware that it is 99% likely to be unattainable - but that's the goal I've chosen to work towards. Have also decided to document things through YouTube - Am just wondering if anyone knows of or can guide me towards other forum content which provides some indication of focuses for different golfers at different HCP levels, and the different approaches one might take to this challenge? Thanks very much in advance! Sage

Thanks very much @ncates00- and thanks for the recommendation too. I think that’s a great idea - whereabouts is the best place for one of those threads? The member swings forum? -

Thanks very much, Nave. Got a long road ahead and certainly no huge successes to report in the first few weeks. But if I keep at it then we’ll see where things land. Appreciate the support 👍🏼 -

Thanks very much - I will go digging to see if I can find those others you mentioned that have done the same - I'm sure there will be plenty to learn from. I do have a hitting net, I think a monitor could be a good investment to start getting some feedback on the quality of strikes though as it's hard to get anything other than general feel/video of the swing. I'm very lucky to have a great coach helping me out. And not a truer word has been spoken.. nothing will work unless I do! Appreciate the support 👍 and would love to hear any feedback you have at any stage! Take it easy. Sage
