  1. "screen always on" function? are you talking about the red lock button on the lower left of the screen? the only problem i have with golfshot is the delay between readings... so im not always 100% confident that the reading i get is accurate or if i should wait another min or two before it updates but for its price point its pretty awesome
  2. that's an interesting slot setup
  3. sooo if you had this much to spend at a golf shop what would you buy? dont really need any new clubs but was thinking of maybe getting a fitted driver... i have a titleist 907D2 that i bought off of ebay would they fit me a new shaft to it?
  4. does anyone else experience calluses on their left hand heel pad (righty swinger)? is something off with my grip, squeezing too tight, or is it just from hitting a lot of balls i try to keep the club in my fingers but the butt end pushes against the heel pad sounds normal no?
  5. it sounds like the same problem i was having for a month until recently! everything people mentioned here rings true now...in hindsight what i was doing wrong was forgetting to swing inside-out and swinging too hard i think with the shorter shafts in wedges, you can get away with overusing your arms and forgetting your normal swing and yea, i dont think ball position was the issue for me
  6. i used to own the x3... i really liked it on longer putts - felt i could putt along the target line better im guessing its due to the mallet design but on shorter putts - head felt too heavy and dead was inconsistent with it within 5 feet then again, my putting isnt something to write home about
  7. was recently looking into a rangefinder and saw that they had a "slope" version anyone have any experience with those either in the leupold or the bushnell how accurate are they?
  8. haha simple answer is that im missing the 8 iron in the set. plus theyre graphite shafts. i thought maybe using a smaller, less forgiving iron to practice with would help with my swing?
  9. when i first started learning how to play golf, these were the irons that were handed down to me. of course at that point i had no idea what a golf swing should be and couldnt really get the ball in the air. but since then, ive been playing with the ping g10 irons which ive been hitting pretty well. BUT recently i took a 7 iron outta the old bag and hit it at the range. i dont know if it was a mental thing but i felt like i was hitting the DCI more consistently with less disperson. the g10s felt soooo big!! long story short....is it a good/bad idea to hit this at the range to improve my swing and use the pings on the course? what would be a comparable iron on the market these days to the DCI?
  10. folker, i know exactly what youre talking about! throughout this year, ive struggled in so many different parts of my game. beginning of the year, i couldnt drive without losing a ball every couple holes. once i got that relatively under control, i kept topping all my irons (questioning if the swings should be the same, is it the ball position, hitting up, hitting down, haha SOOO many questions). forget about getting off the tee on par 3s, yikes. and of course more recently, i couldnt hit a wedge to save my life.... nevermind the endless quest to one timing a putt! but somewhere along the way, things began to click one step at a time. youll put together 3-4-5 good holes together leading maybe to a solid front or back nine. and then *pooof* one lucky day everything will just happen to fall into place and different parts of your game will click all together. i didnt think it was gonna happen but it did... i went from scoring in the 110s in the spring to rocking an 87 the other day! what people say on this board didnt make sense sometimes because i didnt understand it at that particular time. but try to remember some key points because later on it most definitely resonates and that moment of OOOHHHH hits you. best of luck!
  11. its funny because everythings thats been posted makes sense... - distance control, although not ideal, isnt really my main problem - ive been trying to imagine my target line when im about to hit but never realized how HARD this is to do!!! but i know this is key to improving accuracy on any shot so ill def keep at it - i think the point about swinging hard may be right i tend to really come down with my irons and take a divot maybe this isnt the same swing i should have with my wedges? also, what do you mean by "dead arms" or not rotating too much?
  12. lately ive been having problems hitting my pitches straight in this range. my typical shot has acceptable distance to the flag just ALWAYS left about 10-20 yards. im trying all different types of setups and am getting more confused just doing research it seems like some typical setups are: - open stance, open club face, ball in middle-front leg - square stance, square face, ball in back how do you guys set up and hit this shot??
  13. oh man this sounds awfully familiar.... a coworker of mine had a set of callaway x irons with graphite shafts the pro he was getting lessons from mentioned how the flex didnt seem uniform among the different clubs so he went to a golf shop to compare and contrast from the ones they had apparently his were knockoffs that he had bought from ebay for cheap they had each club individually wrapped with callaway stickers so looked authentic BUT source was from china! (he didnt know that was a shady sign to begin with) anyway, not sure if this applies to you thought id share this warning in case
  14. Funny that you bring this up. Just got my free hybrid from them yesterday. Well you have to pay shipping and handling but that's about it. When you call them just be adamant and stern that you're only interested in the free club and nothing else. I had absolutely no problems with them whatsoever...maybe they're trying to improve their reputation. Can't comment on the club itself though since I gave it to my brother in law. Oh btw it took 2 months to get it
  15. my first driver was the dymo agree that its long, straight, and forgiving BUT i just couldnt stand the sound of it after a while
  16. i shot a 43 on the front nine with my first eagle EVER and a 47 on the back my best round to date!!!! still in disbelief
  17. hey! just reviving this thread bc i was thinking about getting lessons at chelsa piers anyone have any feedback about the instructors there? dave, could you provide any more info about john hobbins besides what i see in his bio? personality...teaching style... would really appreciate it
  18. Yea I feel like im taking more of a natural swing with better shoulder turn. I think I got caught up in hearing about having a wider base got more power and stability. But tonight it just felt a lot more comfortable. I just hope it wasn't a novelty thing and that's why I'm asking I guess a sort of confirmation on why it felt "right"
  19. So I've been having problems with my drive. I hit it very inconsistently but has solid contact with irons. So I went to the range today and tried to narrow my stance a little bit after reading about the feet together drill. And to my surprise, I was making a lot better contact. What do you guys think about having a narrow stance for your driver swing compared to having a more wide stance? What do you think are the pros and cons?
  20. not necessarily to punch it back out which i can do to the left of the tree but trying to advance it towards the flag as much as possible when you say shorten backswing... do you still hinge your wrists? do you finish with a sort of pitch follow through with the club low?
  21. so for the past couple of rounds i found myself underneath a tree with overhanging branches. if you have about 20 feet height of clearance into the opening, how do you hit the ball to keep it low and rolling to maximize distance from that situation?
  22. I was trying out the r9 4 wood with the adjustable head the other day The fitting guy had me hit it with a closed face since i tend to slice the ball I actually hit the ball straight most of the time which was surprising BUT my question is, would it be better for me to set it in the neutral setting to begin with and try to learn to hit corectly and eliminate my slice that way instead of adjusting the club to compensate for my swing flaw?
  23. oh man, this is exactly how if felt! dont sweat it.... im just starting out as well and took lessons over the winter thought i was making real progress hitting the ball and finding my swing and then the first couple of times at the course was just WTF!!! felt so frustrated and dejected wondering if those lessons did me any good or if i even learned anything BUT i think a lot has to do with learning to play "for real" on the course with all the variations (terrain, lies, just being outdoors) im playing much better now and feeling more optimistic keep your head up and all that practice will def be paying off
  24. so for whatever reason today i tried something new instead of looking at the ball which is usually what i do i tried looking at a point an inch in front of the ball what a difference! i was making more solid contact on my wedges and irons realized i thought about my swing less and focused more on keeping my head down cant wait to try this out tomorrow on the course and see if its legit or simply just a one time thing...
  25. great tip, thanks!
