  1. Just an update... I've been back to the golf shop several times to hit every Callaway club. I've actually surprised myself in what felt the best- Diablo Forged. What a great feeling club. Instead of trying to guess at this, I'm headed to a Callaway demo day in 2 weeks. I'll hit all of them at the range and make a decision at that point. Thanks for the advice thus far.
  2. I just hit the range for the first time this year. Absolutely great session, playing with a good friend. About 150 balls, most of them a 7-iron just working on an athletic swing. Really hit well, can't wait for this year.
  3. I love credit card rewards! I'm going with new clubs this year for the first time in 12, and decided to go Callaway. Was happy to see the offer, ordered a 3-wood all standard, showed up 3 days later. I just stared at it and swung it 50 times in the living room last night. fun stuff.
  4. You're doing absolutely fine. One of my best friends is the best golfer I personally know, 8 handicap, never uses a wood. Tees off with a 4 iron. One suggestion- go find the book The Golf Swing by David Leadbetter. Read it cover to cover (easy) and do it several times. You'll thank me for it later. Best of luck-
  5. Not directly related to the discussion, but you guys have hit on it somewhat... there is one inherent part of golf that makes it such a popular game. I can practice every minute of the day and I will never, ever dunk a basketball like Kobe or Lebron. Never. And I can practice some more and never, ever be able to hit a 95 mph fastball out of a ballpark. But I can step on a golf course and hit the same exact 80 yard wedge and put the ball 2 feet from the hole JUST LIKE TIGER. It may take me 1,000 rounds to do it, but chances are it will happen at some point. That's why we always come back, even after a crappy round....
  6. Not to highjack, but Shanks- you mentioned Maltby in one of my threads and I checked out the rankings (thanks for the info). I was set on the X-22 tours and just concerned they may be a bit tough for me. Then I see the X-forged are supposedly a bit more forgiving per Maltby. Obviously, Callaway's website doesn't agree. How legit are these rankings? I don't want to make a foolish decision and buy the X-forged, but if the numbers are true an they feel and look good to me...
  7. You guys are missing an important part... after a particularly painful experience several years ago, I crouch a bit, head down, one arm up over my head, and one hand COVERING MY GROIN. Trust me, you want to incorporate that into the fore motion.
  8. Never played one, but I would personally go with 3-wood, 6-iron, pw, putter. I might substitute 7 for 6, but would have to think about it.
  9. If your misses go 200 yards and find the fairway, I'd keep hitting the driver...
  10. Thank you for the opinions and advice. I took a step back and decided to think this thru before a purchase. I did hit both the regular and tour models again and both felt good. Still like the look of the tours much better. Don't know "Maltby" but I'll check it out. X-Forged, huh? That just sounds like I'm getting out of my league.
  11. Hello all, first thread, looking for some opinions. I question is much like the other thread going on with regards to a high HC using a tour club. Quick background- started playing just after college 12 yrs ago. Could get on the course 2-3 times a week and slowly got my game down to low-mid 80's on most days. I had the bug. Then the family came and I got into boating. When I had 5 hours to kill, I would go boating rather than golf. So my game disappeared pretty quickly. Over the past few years, I've played 5-8 times a season, mostly work related functions. I would shoot anywhere from 90-110 depending on the day. But last year I found myself getting that bug again.... I've played with a 12 yr old set of Tommy Armour 845's all this time. Small club face, no offset, stiff shaft. It's time to buy some new technology, and I'm excited to get back on the course this year. Looking very hard at the Callaway X-22 Tour model. I spent a lot of time yesterday looking at the regular X-22 and Tour, comparing the look. I hit both, but considering it's been 6 months since picking up a club, it was hard to tell much difference. I know the regular X-22 are better suited for my game right now. But I can't get over the look at address. They look very bulky and much different than what I've been staring down at for 12 yrs. The Tour model look much more natural to me and are obviously similar to my old clubs. Thoughts? Buy the Tour model and enjoy a similar club with current technology? Or just get over the look of the regular X-22 and let the club help me improve my game?
  12. Don't quite get the changing shoes in the parking lot rule. But I adhere to most of the others posted.
  13. Absolutely would return it. I've left plenty of clubs on the course an always were able to get them back at the pro shop eventually.
  14. Own a construction company. Enjoy boating and golfing, when I find the time.
