Fitting : I need one but i don't want to do it...yet
blue_crush replied to JYB's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
with your Hdcp your game is better than most and you should definitely know what your fit should be. grip size, lie, flex, length, those will not change with a new set of any clubs for you. loft is the only thing left to choose. flex according to your swing speed is big, then theres your lie which would normally be the same with a new set, and only change if your setup changes like your stand closer or more erect. then there's your grip size which for about 25% of guys have the wrong size which can hurt you. and lastly the lofts, knowing what you have and how you might want to change a couple of them to cover your yardages better. I still have my old lofts on my sets from collage which is a 46* for a 9iron and my PW is 49* today's lofts are just to much carry I feel, like a 9 now days is like 42* which is too much for me.... I like the older loft scale. anyway getting fitted will help your game a bit and your in the area where every couple of strokes makes a huge difference. good luck -
I love my pings, but the new G10 just didn't give me the feedback I was expecting. it has no feeling and kinda num off the tee. while it goes really straight and gets out there. I just never know if it was a good shot or not. you know how some drivers if you miss hit them you know it right away, and can feel it. I thought ping other drivers were better in this category. IMHO

heres 2 reasons I use neoprene covers, each shot I put the cover in pocket and when I'm done I put it back on the club and if I forget to, I have something in my pocket to remind me that I have forgotten a club on the green maybe. and the last reason is that I dislike nothing more that hearing my clubs clank away on the course. and with today's drivers and woods having such thin shells even with there covers on them this helps protect against accidental denting of them. the neoprene covers are easy to get on and off and make the bag look clean and neat too. I think that pro don't use them for the fact that they get new clubs whenever they want, not to mention that they need the camera to see there logos...

my swing coach saw me at the range the other day and he saw I still had my hybrid in my bag which has been in and out of my bag the last year. he gave me a new 7wood to hit in its place. showed me that it had better flight pattern and a better club to swing and had better percentages on shots... you know he was right, I have dropped my hybrid and that 7 is awsome. I love the way it just floats up there and I can work it better than the hybrid, so yeah switching to something new sometimes is a great help. as for changing for a course, no way. every club I have in my bag cover a distance and taking one out would shift the balance of my shots. the only way I could see this is if I were playing a par3 and didn't need my driver, and woods...

Horrible Finish to a Round...How To Keep Your Cool?
blue_crush replied to underparnv's topic in Golf Talk
this is what every good golfer and pro plays for, why... you should not be wondering on the course what your score is and how your going to make up that bogey on the next couple of holes or that there's a par 5 coming up you might get a birdie on. once you learn to take each shot as it comes and not be thinking about the next hole or your last couple of shots you will start executing better shots. make each shot count, and the score at the end will be much better and less stressful. thats not to say when you mark down each hole you know, but that's it, you move on to the next shot at hand. some of my best days on the course I didn't even realize that I was doing that good and I was surprised to see it. but there has been times where I was all even till the last hole and knew all I had to do was finish this hole with no mistakes, and that hole haunted me all 440yds....lol -
this is the greatest course for under 100.00 make that 75, no 50, no 45.00 on weekends...lol it is just 4 miles from pebble beach and spyglass and the views are awsome. the back 9 are all on the ocean with breathtaking views. an other course for the range your talking about are aptos seascape too, as they have a real deal that is 23.00 at 5:00 WITH A CART.... that is where I play a lot as its the best deal for the buck. another one just to the north about 15mins from you would be spring hills golf course in watsonville and its about 45.00 on weekends too. lots of elevation changes and fun to play as well... corner worker for the USGP... your a lucky dogg... that is going to be an awsome race...

that tour ball scuffs up really easily too.... maybe one round for me. if you want a ball that has good feel as in a softer feel and plays mulitply rounds, try the callaway big bertha soft blue... has good spin, long distance and is under 15.00 doz. and you can spin it too...

changing grip size...how much of an effect?
blue_crush replied to gills's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
IMHO... if the grips are too small for you the club can twist or even make you feel like you may want to grip them tighter. mid size grips can help to allow you to relax more with your swing and grip. another thing a mid size grip helps is in seniors for them too, it helps them to lessen cramp or aches and pains... one grip size does not fit all, its the same with shafts and there lengths too. we all are different and need different things to accommodate us and our game. . -
I am 52 now and I have been able to shoot par twice in the last yr and a few rounds of +3 which I will take for the course I played... so yes you should be able to, but just playing or practicing 2 times a week isn't going to cut it, you better plan on at least 3 or more sessions a week to stay in the hunt.

I think a soft ball like the top flight gammer, the noodle+ and the callaway in the big Bertha soft which is the blue label. now if you can find them, and want a sleeper, the pinnacle CLR... 80 compression, soft urethane cover and its a low spin ball off the driver but spins and stops on the greens. the best thing about this ball is that it has that iridescent look cause of the clear covering and when your on the fairway you can see it right away and it looks nothing like a white ball. so when your playing with your buddies you can identify your ball right away. now for the cool part, this ball in scramble format has won me 3 long drive holes and one closest to the pin, which totaled out to be about 400.00+ in prizes. that was a bonus and not everyone gets the same results. that ball too sells for about 18.00 doz and you won't scuff it like the 40.00 balls...lol finding a good ball for your game is all about how it feels and the trust and the believe that it is making a difference in your game. guys are fickle and jump around for the most part and like trying something new in the believe that it will help them score... if I start out with 3/4 bad holes, that ball goes away and back to the dugout. I will do anything to change my feeling a bit. I have even been know to change gloves too....lol

Preference for Judging Distance?
blue_crush replied to Big_M's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
course marker when you can find them are OK, but a skycaddie or a GPS unit is unbeatable. you know exactly what it is to the pin. pros have caddies to tell them the distance, my caddy is a little black box that never gets a cut of my winnings....lol rangefinders are OK, it just takes a few seconds more for some to find and see the distances. and as for usga legal, as long as they don't have slope on them there OK... you play with a good GPS or rangefinder and I guarantee your going lower your score at least 3/4 strokes in the 1st couple of rounds. but if you don't know how far each one of your irons carry then these units are of no use to you, cause your just guessing what you can hit anyway... Quote..... I want a Sky Caddie. The wife says that I need to wait though. Maybe for Christmas or Father's Day or something. life is too short to wait, you need to go out and buy one now, everday you play without one is another day you wished you had one and when you look back, you will say I should have bought this a long time ago... life is too short and we work way to hard to not deserve a little something to our selfs once and while. -
the noodle is a great ball, don't kid yourself. your getting more distance and a better feel than the hype ball. and if you want a soft ball that goes far and feels great, try the top flight gammer, the cover is soft and it flies further too... don't get sucked into thinking just cause you pay 44.00 for a doz balls its going to help your game. I can't believe all the guys out there loosing 5.00 a ball while scuffing them up and loosing them off the tees just cause they claim there better. if huge ball spin the reason they are so good on the greens. why is it I see very few guys sticking there irons right next to the cup and stopping them. most players and I'll guess 70% or more don't strike the ball or take the proper divot anyway, so what good is buying a 5.00 ball other than you can wear a hat that says you play them.... I say play what you like and feels good and works for you. don't get sucked into the ball hype program.... good luck distance...is longer than any prov1.... OK, if you were on the tee and knew you would give up 15yds or more to the pin. that's why you would need the spin to stop the ball cause that mean your hitting a club more to the green... and in the test, the sand wedge is the only one that really spins the ball above 10K RPM's so they claim... my ball stops just fine for me and I wouldn't want it to spin back 10ft. I know what its going to do and that is just fine with me. this whole thing about who is the greatest is kinda dumb... why, cause for the most part you could play any ball and still come in with the same score on your card and no ball is going to lower your score so much that it warrants you paying double what most other balls cost...IMHO...

How long before it is time for a new ball?
blue_crush replied to La Costa Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't play pro V1s so for me I start with a new ball every round. I take the old ones and mark the score and the course in small letters and put the ball on a wall rack so I can see my rounds. every 10 rounds I rotate out the old ones to the shag bags.... PS.... I never play found balls.... they screwed the last guy, so why should I trust them. I also never play #4 balls as they represent FORE, OB or worse....lol I play only 1,2's and 3's.....
