  1. listening to my boss for the last year telling me how good he is and finally getting out to show him whos got game. I wasn't sure if I should, and have been avoiding it. but he caught me after work at a local course and said lets go play. we got in 12 holes before dark and I was +2... to his +8.... I had a great round going and now I can't wait to start working somewhere else now...lol
  2. mariner's point in foster city is a gem just off hwy 92 and it has a huge practice area and 2 teer driving range and grass area to for a couple bucks more.. the the pro shop is huge and has 4 instructors out there and one should suit your style. it night time 9 hole is open till 9:30pm and is a great place to play and beat the heat of the day or winter golf when the sun sets early... it is deffinently worth the drive to check it out.... did I mention the bar has great food too...

    Spin

ever since I have switched to the callaway tour 56 ball I can tell you they will spin alot, and at times to much for my taste.. I've had that ball back up 2ft on avg, and up to 6ft on wet greens which has put me off at times. another thing that will get your ball backing up is to file your groves and make sure there always clean. so many guys I see have dirt in the groves, sure the surface is clean just not the groves... it makes all the difference.
  4. no not that one, but I bought a small file set like the cheap jewelry file set you see at the dollar store or the flea market, and theres 2 in the set of 5 that work great... withing an hour I had touched up my irons and let me tell you I could see the difference right away.. it was a huge improvement. the set cost me like 4.00.....
  5. I just would love to play on team that can birdie every hole out there.. thats alot of pressure and you came through... and as for the score, with what you added as the mulligans and such, that makes it better to understand how a team gets these low scores... all the matches I have played I have only seen one with mulligans and we bought none.. I will have to think again next time as to buying some of these to help I suppose. I also have to get better draws for my 3rd/4th players... I don't play with 4 guys who shoot well.. that may have something to do with it too.. my card on one showed I had 46 shots to the other 18 shots of the other 3 guys... a more even split would be easier to pick and choose best shots, especially around the greens...
  6. ok... I'm not the best science or math person in the world.. but if the course was par 72 and you shot a -20 thats like a 52....... so that would have been a birdie on every hole and 2 eagles at least....???? would that be right.? and how would you explain the 50....? I'm lost on this one... ps... heres another new one for me, the tourney for this last fri/sat they took the top 4 teams and droped there names into a hat and drew the winners. the top team shot a 59 and got 4th place 200.00, they were pissssd and the 4th place had a 62 and got 800.00... we tied at 5th with 64's I had a bad wedge day, but on a highlight for me was a drive to the green on a 340yd par 4 which got a roar......it got a good bounce and rolled up there....
  7. whats up with the mulligan thing too..... one of the teams bought 20 of them, and they only came in with a 68....that was sad so if you buy a mulligan ticket and you can use it as another stroke... like if everyone missed an egale putt, you could use it to stroke again... wow thats totally changes things. I found out that the ups team eagled all 3 par 5's well theres six right there.. and that would leave them 12 holes to birdie out right...
  8. 4 man scrambles..... in a recent tourney we were beat out by the ups team who posted a 54.. just wondering what kinds of low scores you have seen to win one of these things... just curious what guys out there are shooting... I don't have a team, and usally its just me and a friend who get paired up with another twosome.... we've done ok with 62, 64, 64... and I know a 59-62 seems to be the winner, but what have you seen...? thanks
  9. There are 28 million golfers in the United States Only 22 percent of all golfers regularly score better than 90 for 18 holes on a regulation length course. For females, the percentage is 7 percent...and for males it is 25 percent. The average 18-hole score on a full-size course is 97 for men and 114 for women. It's an even 100 for all golfers. Only 6 percent of the men and 1 percent of the women say they break 80 regularly. When asked what they'd like to shoot, most golfers say they'd be satisfied if they could shoot 85 on an 18-hole regulation course on a regular basis. Even with the progress in technology, the average score has changed very little over time. if guys could just take one yr of pure golf to go to scratch golf there would be alot more guys knocking on the doors of the pga tour.... with that said... if you make it I have a club, shoe, and ball, contract for you and probably some other indorsements too...
  10. great reply... that pretty much sums it up for most...
  11. good for you.... it is far better to have tried once or played sports than to sit on a couch and watch or coach teams... I have something else you should try or play at least once. paintball...its a huge rush and you get shoot your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, kids, boss, or just the guy next door.. its another great sport that gives you the feeling that you have done something very cool on your weekends off.....
  12. not to start a thread highjack, but it would be nice to see the the % of fairways hit to be added to the distance or avarage too... my friends are big hitters and missers too...lol 260/280yd drives don't mean anything if there OB or in the next fairway... but then again most of you never miss the fairways....
  13. I have my trusty set of pingeye2+ and and second set for practice & back up's, it was my set from HS and collage, they were showing the wear and saw a newer looking set on e-bay and swooped them up... my driver is the same thing too... I have 2 which are the same with one having a longer shaft which is my main one and kills the ball.... needless to say its not a 500.00 model, but will go further than one....lol my practice set I keep in my service truck so I can sneek off at lunch or get off early and get in some holes or practice before dinner...
  14. there are no rules as to that for par 3's as to your choice for tee's or no tee's.. it totally up to you. so if getting it up off the dirt or thin grass looks like its going to be easier to hit or helps you, take every advatange you can to help your golf game. hope that helps you...
  15. mmmmmm, which way or rule are you refering to......???
  16. isn't that the best feeling.... seeing them go in thats what keeps us comming back for more.....lol
  17. just to take out the fear from trying to hit off the grass... use a short or broken tee from the tee boxes and tee the ball just as if it was just up off where it might lie just on its own... this sometimes helps you to be able to get the club under the ball and get a good shot off.. tee boxes can get chewed up or beat down like dirt on a par threes.. so just getting the ball off the ground just a bit is a help to most beginers.... and there is usally alot of broken tees lying around to use or just use short new ones.. remember this rule... a tee box area is from the markers on either side straight across and 2 club lenghts back from there.. so if the line where everyone usally hits is all beat up, you can use any area back 2 club lenghts to tee up your ball.. I always tee up about 2ft behind where everyone else hits just because its usally the better lawn or area back there...
  18. mom's know....you go mom... I'm a parent of 3 and have taught them the game, and I am most proud of them when at the end of there round they shake the other players hands and thank them and that person walks over to me and says you've done a good job dad, you should be proud of them.... I am... and thank you, it was a pleasure to play with you too...
  19. just have fun..... do your best and know your only going to get better..... some of the basics if your playing with others....... turn off your cell phone... don't talk or move around in the tee boxes while others are hitting. if your ball is heading towards other players...YELL FORE.!!!!! no one will ever curse you for yelling fore, but if you don't...look out stop or pause while others hit to the green... replace your divots or grass you dig up... rake your sand traps... repair your marks on the greens... never walk or step on someones putting line.. furthest away putts 1st, and if there off the green the pin stays in till there on the putting surface.. don't lay your bags or cart on the green... have a coin or marker to mark your ball on the green. count all your strokes and putts and be fair.. it will help you later. the person with the lowest last hole has the rights to tee of 1st.. at the end of the round shake hands and say your thank yous.... save your scorecards so next time you will be able to compair them.... so have fun and come back and let us know how you guys did.......
  20. about 32... 3 tourneys with 2nd, and a couple of 4ths.... and 2 more tourneys next week..
  21. ok, so the jest of this topic so far is if someone hasn't asked for your help then just keep your swing tips to yourself. I'm fine with that and that seems like good common sense... but if someone is having trouble and says out loud to everyone what am I doing wrong, or I can't do anything right, whats wrong with me, what can I do to correct that...??? if its just a practice round and everyone is having fun.... why shouldn't you help him.?? especially if your a low handicapper and can see something that might help him.. golf instructors are not gods... there are some bad ones out there guys... of the 20 or so guys I know who play golf, only like 4 of them take lessons, the rest just play golf for the fun of it and have fun.. I am by no means a instructor but I am a smart person who has had lots of lessons and will pass on what ever I can to someone who has a problem. you can't tell me of all the guys on here from all kinds of backgrounds that you havn't taught someone something that you learned by someone else.. your job, riding a bicycle, cooking, skiing, hunting, surfing, skateboarding, fishing, dancing, math, baseball, football, sex education to your kids... and most of these things we used no instuctors... we all know how to teach someone something and golf should be no different. if the mech's of the golf swing are always the same and you know the basics and someone has no clue, then whats wrong with helping out someone... there are so many people out there who do not think they can afford one or are intimidated by an instuctor. but if they only knew a few more basics might be able to at least give golf a better shot or be able to hit the ball a little better... if someone asks me why they can't hit there shot like mine and is truely interested in some feed back, I would glady give them some tips to help them out. I don't know why golf should be any different than any other sport we play...
  22. this is the one for me, I see this one more than I want... kinda like judge smails in caddyshack.. " don't count that "
  23. mmmmmmmm, I started golf in 1960 and by 1971 could hit my driver like 230+ and saw a rep from the northwestern van at stanford who gave me a special persimmon driver from the tour van, the driver had a special insert on the face and the shaft was special too a stiff graffaloyd shaft... that driver I still have today, it was oversized for its time and still hits the ball a mile... having tour equipment or access to them has something to be said for as they just tune them and have the best of the best.....
  24. giving advise is like asking your girlfriend or wife to do something differnent while having sex... it might make you feel better but has a time and place. with that said, the other day at the range I was doing my thing while behind me 3 lady's were hitting the balls, and they looked like they needed some serious help, even a hack could have helped them... one of them said how come he makes it looks so easy... ok, I couldn' t help myself... so I turned and gave up the most basic of swing theories to them and watched as they begin to hit the ball well.... then one of them said why don't we have a drink and talk about some golf lessons... sorry ladys I'm not a teacher and am happily married and couldn't accept. but thank you anyway. so giving advise sometimes is a good thing, it just seems that giving advise from one man to another is always taken the wrong way. its like telling a man he's lost and he should ask for directions.....lol
  25. I have 4 sleeves of 4's and one of them is nike which I have never had a good shot from.. lol I can't explain it, there just not my cup of tea, so the trick is to buy a sleeve from the sports shop and then return the #4s the next day ..... or give them to the guys your play'n with.....lol
