Well nearly another year has passed and I think my swing is looking a lot better. Annoying thing is that my scores aren't showing it. I have managed to markedly reduce the length of my swing, now only just touching parallel with my driver and well short of it with all other clubs. I haven't lost any distance and my irons are going pretty well. Just having a major struggle getting off the tee. Just can't find something that works. I used to be able to get a swing thought or feeling that would give me decent reliability with a miss that was consistent. Lately it has been just horrible, I will stripe one down the middle then next four holes it will be duck hook, slice, duff and then power fade. Going to put the driver away for a week and just play 3 wood (which plays quite well and the misses are much less punishing).

Well here is the latest. Ball striking is improved slightly, however still coming over the top and hitting pulls/fades. However I seem to be hitting the ball straighter. Broke 80 for the first time a few weeks ago, shot 77 on Friday and then 76 on the Sunday. Haven't had much chance to get out lately though.

Wow, I am starting to like this. Shot 76 today off the mens tees :) And that was with a triple!! Had 3 birdies and hit about 12 GIR. Shot 35 on back nine (1 under) which is my first ever under par 9. 60's here I come
-
I did it, 77 off the stick :) Knew it wasn't going to be long. Had it comfortable on the back nine after 37 on the front. Bogeyed the last 2 holes which was a bit annoying but none the less pretty happy. Playing again tomorrow so lets see if I can do the double.

Yay I finally broke 80!! Well kinda. On the last Friday of the month the men play off the ladies . Shot 37 on the front and then 40 on the back for a 77. Pretty consistent, 11 pars, 5 bogies and a birdie. Only had 30 putts which was really the clincher. Finished with two bogies which was annoying. Was pin high on 17 (par 4) off the tee but thinned my chip through the green and then missed the putt, gah!! Kept driver in the bag most of the day, hit 3w and hybrid off most tees. Went for the par 5's and got close on two of them, still only 1 birdie though. Off the normal mens tees tomorrow so fingers crossed I can keep my form going and have a proper sub 80 round.

I have had the Nike M9 cart bag (with 14 way divider setup) for about 8-9 months now. It is rubbish, do not get it! The stitching has started to come apart in the top pocket where I put all my tees/markers etc, so now they all fall out all the time. Also the divider system is crap. My clubs still get tangled up, half the time I have to rearrange all the clubs around the club slot that I am trying to put back in bag. Then when I try pull one out it is probably stuck. So frustrating when you think you do your research and it doesn't work out how you expected. Last Nike bag I'll be buying.

Nice one man! Hopefully I will be able to say the same thing soon! Got a few rounds planned next week.

Thanks Erik, really appreciate the analysis. Think I understand most of it. Will report back my results. What do you mean about my stance?

Well it's now 2 years since I started this thread and the improvement in my swing is still ongoing. Still haven't broken 80 but I am getting oh so close. Hit 9 GIR the other weekend and shot 81 with a triple and two doubles. Then had a boring round of 9 pars and 9 bogeys. I know I will do it very soon, but I am more focussed on getting a repeatable swing that will put me in the fairway off the tee. Too many of my tee shots are making par impossible and even bogey a tough chance. My handicap is down to 12.1 now although it has been pretty static for the last few months. One very bright note is that I won my flight (12-18hdp) for club champs 2 weeks ago. It was a 36 hole final and I had a lead of 6up after the first 18 and then sealed it 8&7. So pretty comfortable in the end. The clincher was from holes 11-16 on the first round. I had 6 straight pars (only missing one green) and won all but one of those holes to my opponent. Then on the 18th he made par and I sunk a 20 footer for birdie. Really stamping my authority on it. We're getting towards winter now down here in New Zealand so I will just keep doing what I'm doing and make sure my short game stays sharp for next summer and I reckon I will be able to get into single figures before christmas.. Any tips appreciated

Join the club. I've been teetering on the edge of those damn 70's for 6 months now. Eight times I have shot 81 but that is my best. Shot it at 3 courses now (incl a par 70) and off the white and blue tees at my home course. So frustrating but I know I will do it in the near future. Problem is that I am so fixated on it that I start getting ahead of myself and before I know it I finish with 3 bogeys for another 81

Looks like it could be a decent call!

^^^ This is spot on correct. Smartphones have actually been illegal since 2009 due to this ruling by the USGA. I was using my Iphone as a GPS till I was made aware of the ruling last year. I bought a rangefinder and haven't used the Iphone app since. It seems the R&A; are pretty ignorant when it comes to modern technology and I doubt this will be the end we hear of this issue. I can see some guys getting DQ'd from events when they are none the wiser on the use of the smartphones.

I bought an Xbox and Kinect in the boxing day sales, along with EA Sports Active 2. Man what a workout machine. The workouts are pretty solid. Got me doing lots and lots of squats. Did a 25 min workout this morning and then biked to work (12km in 30 minutes on an offroad walking track). Fitness starting to get pretty decent. Only done 2 workouts with Xbox so far and am doing the 9 week plan. Hopefully it improves my core strength. Then I might venture into P90X-2, although that is very hardcore.

Went for my first run in 2 months, finally I think my knee is healed (after multiple physio sessions). Ran 3.5km at 6 min/km. Not too bad although I have been keeping my fitness up with plenty of mountain biking. Doing a 15km run end of next month (with an 700m vertical climb) so got my work cut out for that.

I think you guys need to let Brian deal with his own videos and let him decide what he is/isn't allowed to post. Thanks for the videos Brian, they are really interesting. Keep them coming, always interested in seeing swings evolve and don't listen to the killjoys above we're not all like that here!

Great thread Brian and nice swing. Hope I can get a swing like that one day! Make sure you keep us updated with progress.

I think he better throw another one, that ones out of play!

I found this on another forum, sounds promising but I'm not getting my hopes up. If it works the way they say it does then at $200 I can see this being very popular! Quote: I was able to get a bit of information on this product. It is currently in the approval stage with Apple. They have written the code and are waiting for Apple to sign off. Once that has been completed, hopefully prior to Christmas, they are wanting to have a pre-launch of the product. The unit itself will run$199.00 plus tax. The price gets you the unit and the app that will be down load to you Apple devise. If you have a blue tooth device that works well with your iPhone 3Gs, 4g or 4gs then it will work with the device. If not you may have to purchase a new blue tooth headset (AD2P Compatable). After the initial release, they are planning on releasing for droid based phones. In terms of accuracy they have been testing this against Trackman and Flight Scope, I was told the data collected to this point is not official but it's with in 2-3 yards in accuracy. More testing is to be done but that is what I was told. Feedback from PGA club pros has been very positive and they will be doing an official launch at PGA Merchandise in January. If you want to kept up to date send an email to info@ernestsports.com and they will keep you in the loop as far as launch dates and information pertaining to the device.

Ok, that looks awesome. Anyone got any more info? The website has nothing on it http://www.ernestsports.com/ Is it a stand alone unit or is it a cradle your iphone sits in?

Well I just ordered 2 lasers off ebay ($0.99 each delivered) so I can give it a go in a week or so when they arrive. For the moment I think I will try and follow some of your advice from the elbow position thread and see if I can use those tips to try get me swinging a bit more from the inside. I am pretty sure my steep swing and coming over the top go hand in hand. I can get the club face square but it just ends up with a pull. Sometimes turning into a pull fade with driver and 3 wood. I am having a really hard time getting the ball to start out to the right.
-
So you put a two lasers (one pointing down and one pointing up) on your club? And then on takeaway you can see the plane you are keeping club on and also when the butt of club is pointing at ground you can too?
-
Yeah that makes a heap of sense. Sometimes when I hit an iron shot I come down really steep and the club can get stuck in the ground. Need to try and swing around my body a bit more. Another thing I noticed is that I hardly at all rotate my hips. Hmm, which thing to work on first!
-
Yeah I'd agree with this. I used to be on 20 like the OP and hit my driver really high (even though it was 9.5 degree and had a stiff shaft with a 90mph swing speed). I looked around on forums trying to work things out for about 2 years and in the end gave up and went and got lessons. Best decision ever. Not sure how he did it but now I don't flip and correspondingly hit really nice flighted drives now. Along with all the rest of my clubs. My handicap has also come down 6-7 shots. Go get some lessons, that's the only advice I can give you!

No it's not. Hendry and Paddison are both pretty decent golfers and know the conditions well having both played on the OneAsia tour for a few years. They had a pretty crazy round, 8 birdies, 2 bogies and a double. Don't think any other team had that many birdies. We will see how they go when the pressure is on more today and tomorrow. I don't think we can win but a top 3 is definitely possible.
