  1. My sister got a hole in one at a par 3 course. Never really golfed before besides the range just messing around and she was at a function for work. Originally she was just walking the course with everyone and one of the guys asked if she wanted to hit one so she did. I think she said she played a few holes, but on the only official time out on a course she ever had she got an ace. There were like 20-30 hardcore golfers in the company that were there and every single one of them were pissed. Hell I almost hung up on her when she called me and told me. I've hit the pin twice, once in a good way on the way down and once in a bad way where it stopped the shot from sailing over, and I've put a few within a foot or two, but never dropped one.
  2. She came with me once, rode along because we knew no one was on the course and she wanted to see what I'm always out doing. That was about it. Driving range wasn't very fun for her so it all ended there.
  3. What I do is always keep the score. After a hole when I ask everyone for their scores and someone says they got a 5 when I remember them hitting one OB off the tee then screwing around in the trees for a shot or two, I just read back the hole to them... "Well, you hit your first shot OB, then you duffed it in the woods, then three putted once you got on...". I find once people know that you really want to keep score they become more honest. Also, a lot of the time people don't know the actual rules with taking drops/hitting it OB and such. I've come across this a few times and a lot of people don't really consider it cheating, it's just that most people play casually and aren't used to keeping such "strict" scores, at least strict in their minds.
  4. I'm going to say 13. Just 'cus.
  5. Maybe 6 balls out of a bucket are worth it at my range. They're not all rocks, but definitely not worth taking.
  6. Buy yourself a new set for fathers day. Give him your old 7I. If you're not a father, well, you still have a month.
  7. Definitely worth it. I got fitted in high school when I was probably 6'0" and I kept growing and now I'm 6'6" but I'm still playing the same clubs. Probably time for some new ones for me. Pretty much any place you go they can measure you up the proper way and then send the specs right to Callaway, Taylor Made, etc, or sometims they have their own shop where they can do everything themselves. Just matters where you go and what you're looking to spend.
  8. I second getting a song stuck in your head. On the way to the course listen to a few different catchy songs and try to get it stuck in your head. For me it's the last thing I listen to before I leave the car. Then when I'm swinging I'll have the song in my head and all the thoughts of topping, slicing, whatever, leave and my swing just kind of takes over. If all you're thinking about it is "don't mess this up" chances are you're going to mess it up, it's just how it goes.
  9. No, I don't have weather bug, I have weather channel. Regardless, something is kind of funky so I'll try uninstalling and doing the whole power down, battery out thing. I hate doing that. It feels like the technological equivilant of kicking a machine until it works, but sadly it works a lot of the time.
  10. I downloaded it last night but it won't load the GPS. It just keeps saying "searching for GPS", but never finds it.
  11. Thanks. I've been looking for a good golf app for the Droid for a while. The website says my local course is on there so I'm going to try it out this weekend.
  12. I have a bad habit of saying "you suck" after I do something poorly. Then I laugh it off and usually say "oh well, next shot" just because saying it outloud kind of re-enforces that the shot is over and you do infact have to move on to the next one. I've broken one club before and it was out of psuedo anger. I was playing a horrible round and tried to mock snap my club over my knee when a friend was looking, just to kind of show I had enough for the day, and I mocked a little too hard, bent the club and had to get it re-shafted. Last time I'll ever throw a club or anything like that even if I'm kidding around. I feel embarassed for others when they get angry and throw their clubs, and if seeing someone else get all pissy doesn't make you think that's how you dumb you look when you get angry then you have a lot to learn.
  13. I played my sophomore year as the alt and worked my way up to 6 by the end of the year. Our 1 and 2 guys went on play in college, one of them still has a career in golf (at least last time I checked 2 years ago at the reunion), no on the tour, but as either a pro or asst on a course. I remember our top guys would be right around even and the last few spots (me) would probably be between 3-5 over. I was just talking about playing golf in high school this morning and how it was so great. All the time you got to spend on the course, I'd kill for that now.
  14. I'm down in Southern New Hampshire, but if you're already set up with a country club then you should be good to go. There are a lot of nice courses in the area and you can find some great deals especially during the week. Hope the lesson went well and you bring that 'cap down a bit.
  15. I've done 3 days with 36 holes per day before. If you really want to golf and play well, leave the booze out of the equation til the end. A few guys I went with would get screwdrivers for their morning OJ and be passed out as we're driving to the 2nd 18 of the day. Eat a good breakfeast, bring plenty of snacks that don't melt, like non-salted almonds, maybe an apple, banana, stuff like that. Eat a good lunch and drink plenty of water, especially if it's a hot day. As for game prep, 36 holes in one day is a lot, especially if you throw in a range session in the morning to loosen up, you're talking anywhere from 200-300 hit balls, not to mention how many swings. Getting a good sleep usually isn't a problem because hot sun + 36 holes of golf + a few beers at night makes you pass right the hell out. My lower back is a little messed up so I would do some stretches in my room after I woke up and showered in the morning. It would definitely loosen me up for the rest of the day.
  16. Anything inside 100 I don't count off, I usually just go on feel. But outside that I like to know to 5 yards or so where I am.
  17. Shot a 90 from the tips with just miserable driving but only one 3 putt. Put one to 2 feet on a par 3 140yd. Thought it was going in.
  18. Granite Fields, 10 mins from my house Saturday morning at 7. Nice early round, be done by 11:30 and beat all the crowds.
  19. 1 - Beat my uncle. Shot a 78 last year against him but he got me by one at the end. 2 - Play from the blues all year. Got down to the high 70's low 80's consistetly last year from the whites because everyone I play with plays from the whites, but now I want to step it up to the blues. 3 - Get rid of my left to right. I know I come down very steep on the ball and cut it outside-in pretty bad when I get tired. I'm trying to flatten it out and so far it's working well. 4 - Take a lesson. I haven't taken a lesson since I was a teenager and a good brush up with a pro that I've heard great things about is something I want to do this year. Also helps that the inlaws got me a gift certificate to the course that I can put towards the lesson.
  20. Hey everyone, Plaistow NH here. I play mostly down the street from my house at Granite Fields, but sometimes in Dracut, Tewksbury, etc during the week after work (Andover) or something.
  21. Working on flattening out my swing to stop coming over the top so much, which doesn't result in a slice as much of a strong left-right, especially on my irons. Also keeping my wrists a lot tighter and going for a more consistent take away instead of just collapsing my wrists right off the bat. Always working on putting and the short game.
  22. Mechanical Engineer, specialize in HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection.
