  1. Good on you for knowing your options and standing your ground. But I am curious: What sort of situation were you in that moving 2 club lengths laterally made more sense than chipping or putting in one direction of another for greater relief from the tree or to get closer to the hole?
  2. I have a PRGR Red Eyes Pocket: http://www.amazon.com/PRGR-GM009-RED-EYES-POCKET/dp/B00JK56VTK It gives clubhead speed, ball speed, smash factor, and a pre-computed "distance" which is based on your ball speed and selected club. It also has other modes but I don't mess with them. Price can't be beat and I set it up next to a Flighscope last year and results were +/- 2% which is good enough for me.
  3. CDGA (Chicago Distric Golf Association) only takes ESC.
  4. I'll echo @Fairway_CY and vote 'Other' for Poor Sportsmanship. People talking in your backswing, walking on your line, failing to care for the course, playing slowly and such I can deal with so long as they are still pleasant people to be around. Walking around in a funk because of your play, shouting, throwing clubs, etc. on the other hand is really hard to deal with. I say this as a (mostly reformed) bad sport who is more than a little mortified at my younger self.
  5. Anyone else have tags that are falling apart? I have had two die so far (glue came loose and the tops came off ) and I have only played ~20 rounds with them. I was part of the indiegogo campaign, so maybe they changed the design at some point...
  6. http://www.gamegolf.com/player/frosty/round/524714 Won my second round of the Club Championship yesterday 5 and 3. Looking through the LSW lens: Best choices: --Not shooting for back pins: There were a couple long pins ( #1, #11, #14, #16) that I consciously backed away from and that probably saved me from missing at least 2 greens. --Playing for safety off the tee: Many of the holes are wide open but I tried to chose lines that left me the widest margin for error rather than the best approach. That probably kept me from being jailed at least once. Worst choices: --Trying to get cute with front pin positions. I tried to go for a couple of front pins (#7 and #8), mishit both shots and ended up in a bunker. --Trying to squeeze a little more out of my driver on #13 instead of trusting my swing. Ended up putting that one in the water. I was up 4 in the match at that point and didn't need to do anything rash but did it anyway.
  7. Ok. Thanks.[/quote] If the GPS is not accurate enough for this, why does the analysis give you distance to the hole in feet for approach shots? It seems very inconsistent to me to say that the marking the hole location is unimportant becuase the distances won't be accurate and telling me I hit an 8i to 9ft last week in the same breath.
  8. Is it realistic to think you can put four guys, their luggage, their clubs, and their travel bags into a mid-size SUV? When I go on a trip to Florida with some guys we are lucky to get four guys and their luggage into a minivan or a full-size suburban. It gets even worse if people want to bring their sarcophagus cases instead of a soft-sided travel bag...
  9. That makes sense. GG was shorter right? If they are just measuring Lat/Long differences and ignoring elevation they will show shorter distances than the laser. What distance did you laser? What did GG say? With that info it is a simple trigonometry problem to guess the elevation change.
  10. The big changes are to plane (returning club closer to address angle, currently I am more upright), and delivering more shaft lean at impact to lower launch. Idea is to get the ball lower and lefter that I used to hit it.
  11. Played down in Florida last week and made a hash of things for the most part: First day was a real horror show. Lake Buena Vista (Disney course). Four balls in the water, two OB, hit only 6 greens, 41 putts (Yikes) for a 99: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/frosty/round/309718 Second day, Magnolia (Disney again), moved up a few sets of tees, kept the driver in the bag, hit 9 greens, only 32 putts, shot 81: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/frosty/round/309719 Third day was a washout. Fourth day, Harmony Golf Preserve (St. Cloud). Another mixed bag, hit 7 greens, only 2 penalty strokes, shot 89: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/frosty/round/309721 Biggest challenge the whole trip was keeping the tee ball in play. Lots of push slicing but I got that under control (somewhat) by the end. Putting was all over the place and my bunker play left something to be desired...
  12. As I have been making some swing changes this year I have started to suspect that some of my equipment may be ill-fitted for me. I hesitate to schedule any fittings because my swing is still in flux but at the same time I worry that working with ill-fitting equipment may be causing me to make bad adjustments to accommodate my existing equipment that I will just have to undo later on. What does TST think? Will my fitting specs change drastically as I make swing changes? I'm thinking especially about wedges and woods since they appear to be most dependent on 'active' variables, but irons could be effected too, right?
  13. My name is Mark Frost. I am 34, live in West Chicago, IL, went to Wheaton College, got a BS Computer Science, and currently work as a computer programmer. I've been married for 7 years and have two boys (4 and 2). I joined this forum about 5 years ago and can generally be found hanging out in the rules forum. I started playing golf when I was about seven (can't say for sure) My father picked up the game from his father and I did the same. I played for my HS golf team all 4 years and played as high as #2 on the varsity squad. I didn't play nearly as much during college and started to get serious again when I was out of school and started working. I've been largely self taught though I have taken some lessons here and there most recently over this past winter. I'm hoping that this is the year that I get my handicap out of the 6-9 range where it has been hanging around lately and down below 5. The season is just starting and my swing is in transition (from a weak, high fade to a lower more powerful draw courtesy of the lessons I took over the winter) so I'm not having tons of early season success. The new full swing mechanics effect my pitch shots as well so all I have left from last year is chipping and putting which have been hit or miss (generally hit, but I have my, uh, moments...). Here's a recent photo:
  14. The only reason you can shave a stroke by getting up and down is because you added the stroke by missing the GIR in the first place. The fastest way to add strokes to your score that you can shave off with your short game is by hitting poor drives and approach shots.
  15. Would it be possible to see this 'geofencing' information overlaid on the course map? You could get a lot of solid feedback from interested parties (often with intimate knowledge of how the course is set up and typically played) if the information was available for them to see. Related to the above question, do you have a outside 'beta testing' group who test out new features? Any interest in starting one?
  16. I'll put in a brief commercial for here. My brother bought his set from them a few years ago and is very happy. Prices seem pretty good too.
  17. I already feel like enough of a dweeb walking up to the cup and tagging my tap in after an opponent concedes the putt and knocks my ball away. Now you want me to stand there for another 20 seconds?? 3-5 seconds and I might be on board. Or maybe a config option where you could do an extra putter tap to mark the hole. Then in the round review you could toggle that last putt into the hole location...
  18. That may be true, but if you are going to even offer an 'analysis' screen showing distance to the pin in feet then at least give people a chance to get it right. If people don't care to do the extra work, no one is forcing them. Incidental to this, I just realized that "Approaching the Green" only includes attempts to reach the green in regulation. What is missing is a 'scrambling' analysis showing how close your chips/pitches are, and/or an 'all approaches' which includes trying to reach par 5s in two, hitting approach shots after penalties, chipping after coming up short, etc.
  19. A few Round-Editing related issues I ran into last week: 1. Is there a way for me to move shots between holes? The initial upload of my round last Saturday had all shots from holes 6/7 show up just on hole 6. I emailed support and they cleared it up pretty quickly but having a self-serve option would be nice. 2. When editing the round you don't show the length putts and even if you did the zoom level available on some courses make accurate placement of shots/holes very difficult. This is an issue because accurate putt lengths are necessary for accurate approach stats. Could you allow for higher zoom levels (even if it pixellates the issue too much) or some other method of placing putts? Even just having an entry field for 'length of first putt' that would adjust the hole locations relative to your approach shot would go a long way.
  20. I guess it helps if you actually post a link: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/frosty/round/270513
  21. They got the issue straightened out this morning (they said they " made some updates to the mapping" but I have no idea what that actually means). My biggest issues: 1. Half of my drives were 220 or less (last year's average was 260), two of my longer drives were off line and put me behind a tree, also hit one fairway bunker. 2. Middle irons were atrocious. Only hit 5 greens, hit into 4 greenside bunkers, and left myself only one decent birdie putt (5ft).
  22. Shot a very rusty 86 today, lots of short approaches and more sand shots than the last half of 2014. I went to review the round and GameGolf, in its infinite wisdom, decided that rather than play the holes in order tee to green I putted the ball from #6 green to #7 tee, played three shots on the wrong direction and then sunk a 400yd putt for quintouple bogey back on #6 (opting not to play #7 at all). I emailed them to point out the curiosity and will post my actual round once they or I get things straightened out.
  23. Welcome David and Jacob, By Hole analysis: Currently if I want to see how I played a certain hole at my course last year I have to go into each round individually, navigate to that hole, and cycle back and forth between half a dozen tabs to compare. The procedure is similarly cumbersome if I want to compare my play against others who have played the same hole. Would it be possible to have a "by hole" analysis feature where you could overlay multiple traces on a single map? Being able to filter by club selection, hole score, date, players, player HDCP, and see aggregate stats (GIR, Scoring Avg. Putts/GIR, Sand saves, etc.) would be great too. Pace Of Play: Something else I would like to see is "Pace of Play" information for my rounds. The data should be there, and the calculations are very simple to do, could that be included somewhere on the round summary? Thanks for being willing to answer questions here. I've enjoyed the product so far and am looking forward to the start of a new season.
  24. Indeed it does. My mistake My point about them not being required for the app to function still stands though. You could, in theory try out your little experiment without having to spend any $$ and if you like the results pick up the tags at a later date.
  25. The app is free and doesn't require you to buy the tags. The tags are only for the GameGolf belt unit and do not, to my knowledge, even work with the Android/iOS app. If you are using the app you just input your club selections manually just like you do with any other shot-tracking app.
