This is true. DSLR video capability is nothing to scoff at. That said, when I bought my 40D and for any future bodies I purchase, video won't be something I'm looking for. I am personally buying a DSLR to take photos, not video. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but I HIGHLY recommend the next lens you buy be the AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D ("Nikkor" is the manufacturer name Nikon uses for their lenses). It's a VERY sharp lens and has great low-light capabilities. It will be noticeably sharper than the kit lens you get with the body. It's only about $100 so buying it has always been a no-brainer, but don't let the low price detract you from the quality of the glass. It has a plastic body to keep the price down, but you're getting a very sharp lens. Also, for photo editing, I use Lightroom almost exclusively. The interface is so much more friendly to photographers, and there is very little it can't do. It's just faster and easier to use than Photoshop.

Excellent putting tip for a smooth take away.

Lots of good info on that site, but, dear god, is it ever a horribly designed website. -
You might want to work on your sarcasm if everyone else takes it as truth. Now THAT'S some fine sarcasm.

Sorry, but your first two posts in this thread have nothing to do with you stating your opinion. That's not an opinion of what you would do. That's you coming off as being high and mighty. That's not you opinion of what you would do either. That's you projecting your beliefs onto another person. If you just want to state your opinion of what you would do, it would have looked something like this: "I would have taken the Penta, but I also would have replaced it with a ball so I wouldn't feel like I was cheating the driving range." I think your first two posts are what caused everyone else to start taking this seriously as opposed to just shrugging it off and saying "to each his own".

Maybe it's because I'm from Winnipeg, but for 45ºF (7ºC), you don't really need any special type of clothing. Jeans, shirt, jacket, and you're good. But if you really want warm clothes, get yourself some Merino wool clothing. Wearing layers are the best thing you can do to keep yourself warm because each layer creates a pocket of warm air between itself and the next layer.

Same. Except I putt to a shot glass instead of a water bottle.

I was having a lot of problems with my weight in putting. I could hit it straight, and read the breaks decently, but I've always been somewhat gun-shy when it came to actually hitting the ball. I didn't want to end up hitting it six feet past the hole and then have a difficult second putt, so I ended up wimping out of a lot of putts and leaving it six feet short, which didn't help anything. I decided to try putting with my eyes closed to see if I could get better results. I went to the practice green with two balls and just kept putting to each of the holes. I would take a practice swing with my eyes closed, step up to the ball, line myself up, close my eyes, and putt. I realized that my body is a WAY better putter than my mind. I was getting the ball to stop withing a couple of feet of the hole consistently. I manged to get good enough results that I decided to do the same thing on the course. I've played three rounds since then and my putting has been getting better every round. I still have the odd three-putt, but most of the holes are two-putts or better. I don't always make good contact with my eyes closed so my goal is to keep letting my body decide the weight of the by taking practice swings with my eyes closed, but then take the real putt with my eyes open to make sure I hit it flush. I actually really enjoy putting now, rather than being afraid of it.

How is the photo gay? Because he's a man who's naked? Are you naked when you have sex with a woman? Oh shit, you must be gay! This thread is just really disappointing.

I can appreciate the work it takes to maintain a healthy physique. The same way I can appreciate Utley's putting, or Furyk's bunker play. He has obviously put a lot of work into being healthy and having a good physique. "But he's a MAN... eeewwww!" I'll stop now so you can continue giggling like a little school girl.

I don't get it. Losing your lunch? Burning your eyes? That guy has an awesome body, and one I'm sure all of us would gladly trade for. He is in amazing physical condition and that alone is admirable. I don't mind seeing a mostly naked man on the cover of a magazine as long as he is in good physical condition. Time to grow up a little, fellas.

Quickie Pitching Video - Golf Pitch Shot Technique
Koth replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I tried this out yesterday and had some pretty good results. It looks like there is more wrist movement in this swing than what I was taught before, which is more of a shoulder swing. I was told that using the bigger muscles of your shoulders will produce more consistent results.- 773 replies

Good for you for trying to fix the relationship while your son is still young. My father was always a very negative person, and due to that and numerous other reasons, I haven't spoken to him since I was 16. He is basically not in my life. He never wanted to change, and it cost him pretty much his whole family - my sister is the only one that still communicates with him. Make the changes while you still can so you don't end up dying alone like my poor bastard of a father. @Danny: I agree with your first paragraph, but I've always thought of the terms as being reversed. i.e. anyone can be a father, but it takes someone to be a dad.

I went to the practice green today and tried putting with my eyes closed. I realized that my body is a WAY better putter than my mind. I would get my line, close my eyes and take a couple of practice strokes, then line myself up behind the ball, close my eyes and putt. I was getting pretty consistent results too. Way better than I was with my eyes closed. I could tell from the feel that I wasn't hitting every putt flush in the middle of the head, but I was still making good contact. I think I'm going to continue practicing this way until I can get my mind to stay the hell out of my putting. I also didn't do any drills. I just grabbed two balls and putted around the green going from one hole to the next. I was two-putting pretty much everything with my eyes closed.

My distance control problem is just hitting it too light. I always feel like I put a good stroke on the ball, I just don't hit it hard enough. I always know right after I make the putt if it's going to be too short. Yeah, I think I just have to stop doing actual drills and just start putting around the green. Make it more of an actual game situation rather than just hitting putt after putt.

How waterproof is your waterproof shoes?
Koth replied to se7en's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I own a pair of Ecco golf shoes, and I've never had a problem with water. And I've walked some really really wet courses. -
Yeah, I have noticed that I try to hit the ball when I putt instead of just concentrating on making a good putting swing. Maybe I should try putting with my eyes closed for a while.

My main problem with putting is distance control. I can usually read the break of a putt, and hit it straight and clean. The problem came from when I first started I kept hitting putts 5 feet past the hole, leaving myself a not-so-easy second putt. After realizing that, I became gunshy and started leaving a lot of putts 5 feet short or worse. When I miss, it's because the putt didn't make it to the whole most often. Other times I will hit it too hard and leave it 5-6 feet past the hole. The rest of the time I will leave it pretty close for a tap-in. At the putting green I've been lining up balls in a row starting at about 5 feet and go back from there. My main goal is to hit it just past the hole. I don't really want to sink it because I want to make sure I get the distance feel down. After that I will place balls at random distances around the hole and pick putts at random to see if I can remember the weights I used in the previous putting drill. This drill seems to help with my putting, but it gets pretty boring after a while. The only drill I do that is actually somewhat fun is setting up a few balls at one end of the putting green, and trying to sink them into a hole 100 feet away. But that doesn't really relate very well to real putting on the course. I also putt regularily on my carpet, but that doesn't help with distance control. So, my question is, are there any putting drills that are actually FUN? If there aren't any, what are some putting drills that will mainly focus on distance control?

How often do you see video recorders on the practice range?
Koth replied to nevets88's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Pretty much the only time I see someone recording their swing is when I'm doing it to myself. -
After reading this I went to try it on my daily lunch break visit to the driving range, and it was actually pretty fun. I didn't have any old scorecards on hand, so I just tried to hit targets. I usually ended up hitting my 3-wood to within 50 yards and then following it up with a wedge, but the idea of only having one swing to get the ball there was interesting.

Wow, for a 15 year old, you look like CRAP.

No, the na na na blah blah hey good bye is a different chant, but equally as lame. Nope, I've never been to a Habs game.
-
I really don't care what other people do.
-
I love that chant. It's way more interesting than any North American chant. "dundun duuuuuuun dun HEY! dun dundun dun"
-
It seems like it's both of you that are the problem. If you want to have grudge matches you have to play by the rules or things like this are going to come up. Don't take a conceded putt if you aren't going to give one in a similar situation.

I've only walked away from a bucket when I'm warming up before my tee time and it comes time to tee off.
