In the practice area at my club here near Los Angeles there was a Volvik tour van and they were working with some Korean pro's, men and women. After watching them for a while one of the Volvik reps asked me about my game and the ball I used, and I told him I really like playing the Srixon Z Star. He asked me my swing speed, and not knowing, I just guessed it in the low to mid 90's. Hitting in the same setup that the other players were hitting I soon found out my REAL swing speed averaged 84mph. They make the "Vista" which is their 4 piece tour ball, but he had me hit their "Crystal" and the "DS-77" against the Srixon Z Stars I had in my bag. Pretty eye-opening when I saw the results...and FELT the results. Ended up being fit with the "Crystal" which is a true 3-piece ball. Been playing them for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be more pleased. I knew you could get CLUBS fitted, but getting properly "fit" for a golf ball was something new...and LONG overdue! I know the LPGA has a number of players using their balls, and now some of the Champions Tour players are using them too. What also surprised me was reading the results of "Independent Labs" testing that show the Volvik ball performing BETTER that even the Titleist balls. He told me that Volvik is stepping up their sponsorship of Web.Com players knowing that once they make it to the "Big Show" there will be more visibility for Volvik on the PGA tour. I'm not trying to "convert" everyone, but if you get a chance give 'em a try...might just surprise you!

Hello, I won a Scotty Cameron Newport Select 2.6 black milled putter at a tournament. It has a shaft band with "34" on it for the length, and one other band that is rainbow silver with a serial number on it. My question is my other Scotty I have used for a while has a shaft band that shows length, loft, etc. Did Scotty stop using this style band? Thanks!

What irons should I buy, please help!!
mrbillinoc replied to Golfhoy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Couldn't agree more! Golfhoy...before you spend the cash on a set of clubs that LOOK good, hit every kind you can think of. Check out the local courses you play and try playing a round with each brand of rental clubs they use. Borrow a friends' set and play a round with them. Hitting clubs on a simulator or a driving range just doesn't get it done! MOST IMPORTANT...don't let your ego...or other's...get in the way of finding what's best for YOU!!! I hate the headings they use when the golf magazines do their reviews of clubs, especially irons, and put them in catagories of "Player's Irons", "Better Player's Irons", etc. I'm a 2 handicap and I game a set of Cleveland Hibore Xli irons, 4 thru PW & GW & SW. I think they consider these "SUPER MAX Game Improvement Irons". Maybe they are made for someone who shoots a 93...but they work great for me and using them I can card a 73. Now to blow this "Player's Irons" myth completely out of the water...my Hibore's are WOMEN'S irons! The lighter weight and shorter length simply felt great when I tried them and I wouldn't trade them for anything. Sure, once in a while somebody's gonna mouth off about my "Lady's clubs"...but hitting 15 or 16 greens in regulation has a way of shutting them up real quick. You'd be surprised how many guys ask to try my irons during a round of golf! It's up to you...either find out what WORKS for YOU...or struggle with a club that just looks cool in your bag. -
Warmest sweater for winter
mrbillinoc replied to mazza78's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Never found ANYTHING that could compare to the 1/4 Zip Mizuno windlite...but the ones I have are about 3 years old so I can't say about the new ones. Warm, comfortable, absolutely NO restriction when swinging. I had a navy colored one, and finally found a beige one and a black one USED on EBAY....never bought "used clothes" before, but I wanted them soo bad and that's the only place I could find them. -
I live near San Diego...golf 4 or 5 days a week year round...today it's raining and I'm staring out the window thinking about a wasted day. You guys back East that have real winters with snow...how do you do it?????????

Perfectly fine for your skin...not only is it non-allergenic, but it doesn't have the toxins or chemicals that spray insect repellants have.

Sounds crazy...but it WORKS!!! Played golf the other day with an older Gentleman that joined our threesome. The three of us are going nuts after a while with all the gnats buzzing in our ears, eyes, and noses...but not the old guy. He shared his secret with us. He uses one of those Bounce fabric softner sheets you throw in the dryer. He takes the sheet and quickly wipes his face, ears & neck with it, then throws it in his hat! The next day I tried it and it worked GREAT! I could feel the gnats buzzing my arms, so I took the sheet out of my hat, wiped my LEFT arm only and tossed it back under my hat. Guess what? They buzzed my right arm but never touched my left arm the rest of the day! Not only was I "bug-free"...I smelled pretty fresh too!

Picture of Santana golf bag...awesome!!!
mrbillinoc replied to mrbillinoc's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I posted this photo of a bag I had seen on the golf course. I checked with a few embroidery shops here in the LA area to find out how much it would cost to have my company logo done. They all said about $500.00, the majority of the cost is preparing the artwork. Sounds a little outrages dosn't it? -
I have a TaylorMade TMX r11 TP Tour Staff Golf Bag and I am trying to find out where to get a replacement "front-belly-panel" to have customized with embroidery? I contacted Taylormade Customer Service and they were NO HELP...just told me the bags come as an "assembly" and they don't offer a replacment front panel...even though it was designed to be removed for personalization? Any one else out there having better luck than me? Thanks!!!

Loft gap between Driver and 3 wood?
mrbillinoc replied to TheWhacker's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If your looking for a VERY reliable and EASY to hit club off the tee...WITHOUT loosing distance...try the RBZ 3W Tour model. It's a 13* degree loft that will rival most drivers for distance AND control! -
The RBZ woods are great! FIRST time in all my years of golfing that I had a club make THAT kind of difference! The regular 3w is a 15* and the 3HL is a 17* degree. I was using the the RBZ 3W 15* and hitting it soo far I decided to try the RBZ Tour 3W. The tour model is a 13* degree loft. After one week of using the 13* degree RBZ I ended up sticking my DRIVER in the garage and now use the Tour RBZ off the tee!!!

New TaylorMade Ghost Spider putter
mrbillinoc replied to cruzthepug's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Very interested in how you like your new Spider. I use an Odyssey Backstryke and my only complaint is the insert is too soft. Seems like the Spider would have more of a solid "click" coming off the face? -
I have an RBZ 3wood and RBZ hybrids...luv 'em! Do you think Taylormade will eventually come out with an RBZ driver with the same type of "velocity slot" as the other RBZ woods have?
-
I'm over 60 and I hit my 10.5* driver about 230. I just went to a RBZ 3 wood and every shot off the tee box is 240-250 and i RARELY miss a fairway! Have "retired" my driver to the garage!
-
I love this game! I play 3 to 4 times a week and usually play as a single so I get put with a twosome or a threesome. Been lucky 'cause in over 20 years I've met some great friends and only met 2 or 3 guys that were a "pain" to play with. One thing I always find interesting is this...probably a good 70% of all the guys I play with would have MORE fun and score MUCH better if they used a 3 Wood vs Driver off the tee box. Their drives go left, right, up, down, then they pull out the 'ol 3 wood and nail it straight down the middle! Just a thought...if you only get out every once in a while to play try leaving your driver (and your ego) in the garage and hit your 3 wood off the tee. Make the game FUN again!

Bogey Golfer needing help with iron selection
mrbillinoc replied to bwillielv's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree...I play the Wilson Di9's and wouldn't trade them for the world! Of course you have to find what feels good to you, but don't overlook the Wilson Staff line. They are the Rodney Dangerfield of golf clubs...they just "don't get no respect" -
RBZ 3-15 Wood on launch monitor :)
mrbillinoc replied to mrbillinoc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Definately agree, because even the RBZ 3 wood comes in a 17* "High Launch" model. I was hitting that one 214. I don't know if all monitors are the same, but what I liked was each club I hit showed the flight path in a different color. REALLY shows the trajectory difference between clubs. -
RBZ 3-15 Wood on launch monitor :)
mrbillinoc replied to mrbillinoc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Forgot to mention this...this was the FIRST time I ever used a launch monitor to buy a golf club...and I won't ever buy irons or woods without one again! Yeah, I know it's not the same as being on the course, but it IS "Apples to Apples" when comparing clubs. I took my golf shoes, my glove, and a couple of sleeves of the same balls I always play with. Makes a difference. -
Left a wedge greenside one day, but have all my shafts labled with my name and CELL phone number. Guy 2 groups back found my club and called me while still on the course. Got my labels from: http://www.pinhighinc.com/ Got 20 nice lables for only $10 bucks! Glad I did it. You can put your address on it, but putting your cell phone number on it makes much more sense.

RBZ 3-15 Wood on launch monitor :)
mrbillinoc replied to mrbillinoc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I did try the Adams 12 3 wood with the same "velocity slot" technology as the RBZ. Great club, but the most I got out of it was 217. Gonna go back tomorrow and look at the drivers, but I normally hit my driver around 220 to 230. I used my old Burner 3 wood off the tee most of the time because I normally play 3 days a week and there have been times I havn't missed a fairway in a month. The RBZ 3 wood is now 237 and soo easy to hit I don't see many fairways missed in my near future, so I'm wondering if I should even bother putting a driver in my bag anymore? -
Took my trusty Burner 3 wood regular flex to see what all the "hoopla" about the RBZ is. I'm 60 years old and hit my Burner 3 wood about 210 yards. I hit 10 balls on the monitor with it and averaged 208. Hit 10 shots with an RBZ regular shaft...averaged 228. Hit 10 shots with an RBZ STIFF shaft...averaged 237 !!! The pro told me that although my swing wasn't exactly calling for a Stiff shaft, the monitor showed a more penetrating ball flight still going right down the middle with the stiff shaft. Bottom line...walked in hitting 208...left hitting 237. I am a believer.

Wilson STAFF vs Wilson STAFF's reputation
mrbillinoc replied to Paddymaster's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
All I can say is that I bought a set of the DI9's and LUV 'EM!!!!!!!! I tried all the most "popular" brands out there and kept coming back to the DI9's...and glad I did!!! -
Help me choose between these irons
mrbillinoc replied to DublinMeUp's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
When it came time to get a new set of irons I tried EVERYTHING under the sun! I don't scrimp on my golf, so money was not a factor...I just wanted the best feeling irons I could get...and they were the DI9's from Wilson Staff. I think the problem is they are like the "Rodney Dangerfield" of golf clubs...the don't get NO RESPECT! Believe it or not I actually tried to convince myself that I needed to spend more for a more "name brand" set...but after hitting 'em all I had to have the Wilsons. Five months later and I love 'em even more now! Got at TGW with graphite shafts for only $249 !!!!!! Still can't believe it! Whatever clubs you choose, gey the one's that feel best to YOU...then you'll never regret the purchase!!!
