  1. 527 yard uphill Par 5. Shot sequence was as follows: 1) I hit a drive on the right side that was extremely close to O.B. 2) I had no shot because of an obstruction right in front of me, so I chipped it on the fairway about 20 yards. 3) Hit a 4 Iron (I have had no hybrid or fairway woods at the time) and advanced it further up on the fairway. 4) Pitched onto the green. 5) Hit a long 25 footer breaking from right to left. It was a nice feeling to say the least hitting that putt, but strange that I covered all 527 with that kind of shot sequence. Haha, i'll take it any day of the week though.
  2. You know, I was in the same boat as you when I was starting off. I wondered if I should even bother teeing my ball up on short Par 3 courses. Well I learned the hard way when I wasted at least 4 tee shots hitting the ball fat, and the ball went nowhere. That was 4 strokes wasted right there. Anyways, I started to tee the ball up to ground level for almost all my irons now. Tee height is pretty critical, it's basically what you feel comfortable with. As my game evolved, I am so glad that I picked up the habit of teeing my irons up. It's personal preference for you, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then don't change your routine. Cheers
  3. Hey guys, I just picked up a Adams Tight Lies Fairway Metal 3 Wood for my Dad the other day. He was looking for a decent one, and I picked it up for $50 bucks (Canadian). This thing looks so sweet, and looks really easy to hit especially with it's thin shallow face. Problem is, I'm a lefty, and with a club with an older style such as this one, not many golf stores carry them anymore. I was thinking of picking one up for cheap on eBay just to try it out. I have been getting some different results though on eBay, and none of the results look like the one I got for my Dad. Can someone explain the difference between these clubs - If there is any? Or if it's just a cosmetic difference in appearance? Thanks. (Pictures below) eBay: Club I got for my Dad (Club face appears to have more of a shiny chrome finish, along with the bottom of the club, and the crown has a black pearl paint finish, while the other one does not):
  4. lol what a great item description. whoever gets that club is gonna own a part of cyclops history. ps, a little o.t. but, iacas, lets see the full picture of your avatar haha
  5. Last week for the first time I played Team Matchplay. Bascially the team gets a point for each hole won. Me and my friend were up 3 holes, and ended up losing the last 3 holes, ending in a tie, ouch! It was my first time playing with a wager ($10 a hole). I found myself trying too hard at some points of the game though, which completely destroyed me. I kept trying to think there was no wager and just 'play', but it's pretty hard to not think about the cash! All you gamblers, what's your secret!
  6. The challange. Played sports since I was a kid, and all the way throughout my High School years. I was very competitive, and this game of golf is extremely challenging. Not every shot is the exact same, you battle through different elements (wind, rain etc.), and you have your good days and bad days. For some reason, after a bad day, oddly I keep coming back for more. To me, amongst other things, this is why I choose to golf.
  7. Hey guys, I went into the local golf store here in my city, and tried out the Adams IDEA PRO Hybrid Iron. Wow. This club was a beauty. I did have a long opportunity to hit a bunch of hybrids at the store (was there for at least 2 hours haha - The employees were extremely helpful too). I tried a Callaway X-Hybrid, Callaway Heavenwood, Titleist 585-H, Cobra Baffler DWS to be more specific. Nothing really compared to the Adams IDEA PRO Hybrid Iron imho. Just putting the club to the ball at address instantly boosted my confidence that this ball is gonna fly, and fly straight (no more hooks). I came home and did more research on it, and came accross a great review done here on the Sandtrap.com - Link: http://thesandtrap.com/equipment/clu...id_iron_review I sold my TaylorMade Rescue Mid not too long ago giving up on hybrids, but I think this Hybrid Iron may be its replacement!
  8. i thought i was the only one with this problem. i had the tm rescue mid hybrid, until i sold it just today. I've had it with the hooks, and made the next step in possibly looking for another hybrid. For all the former tm rescue mid hybrid owners, what hybrid did you end up getting to replace the tm one? any suggestions with hybrids to little or no offset?
  9. I'm curious as to what's the lowest score you've ever carded. I'll get the ball rolling here... The lowest score I've ever posted to date was a 73 (+6) (Par 67 - 63.8/109). The round consisted of 4 Birdies, 6 Pars, 6 Bogeys, 2 Double Bogeys. I surprised myself, and even my playing partners. Never in my wildest dreams I would have dreamt of shooting a round like that, definitely a great feeling for sure. Of course, I went back the next weekend, shot an 84 (+17) and came back down to earth, haha, the game of golf I tell ya! Let's hear your stories, cheers!
  10. Thanks for all the responses guys, you guys are really quick on this forum! I wrote all the suggestions down, and will be doing some research / reading reviews on them for sure, then going to the local shop to hit them. Also, I do have a TaylorMade Rescue Mid 19 degree. I used to be able to hit it great, but due to a recent swing change and grip change, I just cannot seem to hit it anymore (atrocious hook almost every single hit) so I am thinking of desperately making the switch to fairway woods again. Cleveland Hibore (Fujikira Gold Shaft) Callaway Big Bertha 2007 TaylorMade Burner Corbra LD Speed F Bobby Jones A person said the Big Bertha was great off the deck, how are the rest? Thanks again
  11. Hello, I have a handicap of around 14-15 and I am in need for some advice on getting some decent Fairway woods (possibly 3 and 5). To shed some light on my game, my past three scores have been, 86 (Par 71) (124/68.6); 78 (Par 67) (109/63.8); 89 (Par 72) (126/71.1). I play my driver with an average of 230-240 yards. I am looking for a club to fill in the gap between 190-220'ish respectively. I can strike the ball fairly decent, but something more forgiving would be a bonus for sure. I am frustrated in maxing out with a long iron on the long par 4's and coming short then attempting to get up-and-down. If anyone can suggest some Fairway woods that worked for them, that would be great. Cheers guys!
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TTCVG4uHrg My swing after my first full year of golfing this year.
  13. http://www.superstrokegrip.com/ " The large surface area brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists and encouraging use of the preferred arm-and-shoulders putting motion. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional narrow putter grips. The SuperStroke’s size encourages use of a “soft hands” technique and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke. " Does anyone on the board have one of these puppies? Sounds interesting, and it is the same putter grip that K.J. Choi had on his putter when played in the AT&T.; Whoever has one of these...Does it work?
  14. Hey Erik, thanks for the reply, makes a lot of sense for sure. mcecki: Seems like there are a lot of Canadian lefties, who knows, could be coincidence. I'm naturally right handed, but I golf left handed (as well as 3 of my good friends). Pretty weird, must be the water we drink EH? haha
  15. Hey guys, I am a lefty golfer, and I was thinking of maybe taking a lesson with a golf instructor in the near future. My question is, did you have a right handed or a left handed instructor? I know I am going to have to look long and hard for a CPGA professional in my town who is left handed. Obviously there are benefits of having a lefty instructor, cause well... he's left handed. But on the other hand, Phil is and Butch isn't? Would there be a difference when taking lessons with someone who is right handed (and you are left handed)? Hope to hear from you soon guys, thanks.
  16. What kind of shoe did you have before? And what's your budget like? I as well was in the market for new shoes, cause well, my Nike's were not cutting it. I just put in an order to get a pair of FootJoy Contours. They are $149.00 CAD (Around $135-140 in USD I assume?). They were extremely comfortable when I tried them on. Night and day difference with my old Nike SP5 II's. Hope it helps, good luck with your search!
  17. Good thread going on here. I personally put a lot of pressure on myself just to play well. When I started out in golf, I defintely concerned myself with my score and kept thinking ahead of holes instead of concentrating on the one I was on - and on some occassions even thought about what my final score would be if i shot (x) amount of strokes in the (x) amount of remaining holes. Personally for me, thinking ahead was the biggest battle I had. I read a golf quote, which I basically live by before every round I play. It went: "The outcome is something that should not concern you when you are in the process of heading toward an outcome. Simply work with things as they are. The bottom line here is to believe in the power within us and use it without any questions as to why it works on one occassion versus any other" I do put a lot of pressure on myself to play well, and I had my fair share of outbursts back in the day, but in the end, for recreational golfers, it's either you have your good days or your bad days!
  18. Watched the entire 2nd round today, wow that's a lot of tv haha. pretty good stuff so far, those greens are like hardwood floors. ps. Excuse my ignorance, but can someone explain to me why Adam Scott putt the ball with the toe of his putter from the fringe? Why didn't he just putt the ball normally? (1st round coverage).
  19. What a prick job that guy is for taking your golf balls. I hope karma bites him in the a** and he plays like crap next time he tee's up your Titleists :)
  20. Hey there, My finish in my golf swing is also a 'reverse C'. It's almost like a leaning back finish with my belt buckle facing right at the target. It was a natural swing finish for me, and was advised to keep it the way it is. Like others had said, even some of the pro's have the 'reverse C' finish, I think it's a classic finish, nothing wrong with doing it at all. One of my favorite golfers (and golf swing) has got to be Geoff Ogilvy. One of the smoothest swings I've seen. Check out the pictures:
  21. if you haven't already cleaned them, try soaking them in a large bucket with oxy-clean, that stuff truly works wonders.
  22. Hey guys, anyone out here have a nice golf jacket or zip up you can suggest to me? I am not sure about brand name stuff out there, but I am looking for something that is not too restricted when I swing, and something that doesn't get in the way or hits my jacket in the abdomen section while putting. Something waterproof would also be bonus...Let's hear what you got
  23. Depends on what your looking for. If you want more of a distance ball, go with the Big Bertha (or if you want to fork over a couple bucks extra, go with the HX Hot). If you want something 'similar' to the Pro-V1 you are currently using, go with the NXT Tour. I played with the NXT Tours for a 2 month period and there's nothing wrong with them at all. Like another member said, if you have the clubhead speed (which I'm sure you do, since you are using a Pro-V1) then the NXT Tour will play well for you, but some feel will be sacrificed of course. On another note, I switched to the Callaway HX Hot. I love them, they preform well for my playing ability and learned a lot about my game as it progressed, that I needed a few more extra yards. The thing is, distance is great with the HX Hot. I personally think the feel is not bad. People have said otherwise about the feel, but all the counts is the ball landing in the cup after a putt right? Good luck! Cheers
  24. good call there my friend
  25. I usually play Callaway HX Hot's, and one time I lost one and took a ball out of my bag and tee'd up a Callaway Warbird without even noticing. I crushed my drive down the fairway, and walked up to the ball only to find out the grey logo and not the orange one (lol). Surprisingly, I had 70 yards to the pin, the sprinkler head even said so haha. The hole played 355, so I did the math and it turned out my drive was 285 yards (which is far for me). I haven't experimented really with any other strictly 'distance' golf balls, but I'm curious as to what's the farthest golf ball you have ever hit? Mine was the Callaway Warbird ball so far. Cheers!
