  1. Well, I am working to try and adjust how I'm holding the club, and my current grips seem to be tearing up my hands pretty good. I'm also not sure if I am giving the club a death grip or if I need to loosen up. I figure finding the grip on the club that feels right should help me get out of my own head.... I'll have to order a couple different styles and see which one I like best.
  2. Hmmm good to know. I'll keep watching the video posted here and get it to feel a little more natural.
  3. Thanks! Im curious about trying a few different grips out to see what might fit me best (especially as I am working to modify my hand position to be less palmy....) and wondering if a wrap style might work better than others. The lower cost and ability to blow them on/off is appealing, so the Star or the Pure might fit the bill.
  4. Not looking to take this off topic, but has anyone here used Star Grips? I'm asking in this thread because they are also all rubber, suggest installing with compressed air, are made in the USA, and have a three year warranty on them. I didn't see much when I did a search, but looks like they may have been around a while. Sorry if this should be its own thread, but seemed relevant given some of the similarities...
  5. I saw some of the posts on the PURE grips, and was going to buy on their 4th of July sale, but again wasnt sure if that was a good spend at the time or not. I would like to just find the little nozzle that goes on an air compressor, and I see there is a plan for a 3D printed one, but I dont have a 3D printer, so perhaps Ill find one somewhere. But I digress slightly. (I did start a post about clubs when I first joined, but the response there was to practice more first before worrying about an upgrade.) I also found some webpages talking about Ben Hogan's 5 fundamentals, and want to do some reading there about the grip and how potentially to grab the club with his instructions. I think its another way of getting to the same point, but perhaps one will "click" with my brain and muscles a little better.
  6. Grips are the originals that came on the clubs, which are King Cobra Oversize IIs. So they should probably be swapped out just for age reasons (and the rubber is starting to leave some good black marks on my glove/hands anyway). They are not the wrap style grip, but I think are a Cobra-branded version of a Lamkin Crossline.
  7. Its definitely a work in progress, but its nice to see the actual progress part. I am trying to practice without a glove, but it turns out the grips I have are apparently made of 80 grit sandpaper or something, and I managed to get a couple of whopper blisters last night. So the glove will go back on for a while, and then I need to think about if I want to spend the money on new grips, or if I should just take that money and put it towards some new-to-me clubs since my current set is kinda dated...
  8. Thanks for this tip. Have been practicing it, and it still is a little funky, but getting better. Is definitely hard to not slide back into a palmy grip, even after gripping it correctly, the club just wants to slide back to where Im used to it. Will keep at it and see if I can keep it consistent. My shots when I get it in my fingers are dramatically better already. Any thoughts on using something like the SKLZ Grip Trainer?
  9. Wanted to be another to chime in to say thanks for taking the time to make these videos and post the edited pictures. Very helpful to show that I have had a super palmy grip for all of the years I have been playing. Spent some time this week hitting practice balls in the yard, and although it feels incredibly awkward to get set up, the swing itself feels good, and my shots are going much straighter. I think this will help me at least be more consistent, which is all I can really ask for right now. I do have a question, or maybe its just something I need to keep working on. I am having a really hard time "starting" my grip in the right spot in my fingers. It seems that by the time I settle the grip in my lead hand, then wrap my fingers, then sort of stretch and wrap my heel pad over it, the face of the club has gone all cattywampus on me. Its like I am rolling the club up in my hand and then I have to undo and start over. Thoughts? Or is it just a matter of doing it more to make it routine?
  10. Thanks again for these links. I'm now way down the rabbit hole on my grip, realizing it looks nothing like the proper ones in that thread. It's not easy and feels really funky. But it does seem to help my practice balls in the backyard go much straighter..... I'll post in that thread when I have some better comments or questions for everyone.
  11. I think thats probably the best said thing right here. I figure a bad day on the course is still better than one spent in the office... I try to always enjoy it, even if it I dont play well. But I would like to play well. And I didnt know what the Maltby thing was before last week, so its not a big deal for me to forget about it, and honestly I wasnt sure how much water it held. Appreciate the thoughts, and reading through the links you sent in the other topic now. Thank you!
  12. Thanks very much @Shindig and @ChetlovesMer! Ill read through those links when I get a chance. I picked up all my bad habits on my own once upon a time, so now is as good a time as any to unlearn them!
  13. Good Morning All. So for some reason this year, I have been bitten hard to get back into the game after a probably 13-14 year gap. I have played a round here and there for business, but haven't bought anything or worried about my gear since it wasn't really relevant. I got out a few times this spring, and really just want to get back into it more. Personal life will prevent me from getting out maybe more than once or twice a month, so still not very much at all. Anyway, my current set of clubs is a set of Cobra Oversize IIs that I bought used when I first started playing. They have served me well, but I started thinking about "maybe its time for an upgrade". After far too much time on the internet, I discovered the Maltby Playability Factor, and realized that my current clubs (that I thought were supposed to be good for non-pros when they came out) have a factor of 115 😬. So, that really has put my brain into the idea off maybe some new irons would help me enjoy myself a little as I try to get back into things. I need to work on my grip, swing (Im a huge slicer off the tee), and other things, but would like to get some equipment to start out well also. Right now was looking to stay with used since I cannot justify the price of new clubs. From some searching, potentially looking at some Mizuno MX-19s, Ben Hogan Apex Edge, Some Nikes (not sure what ones), or some Pings (again, not sure what ones). I know, a pretty wide spectrum. Ideally there would be a fitting and some idea of swing speeds and things, but honestly Im so far out of practice I dont know that I can be consistent enough for that to be of any value. I welcome any thoughts/input here, and sorry if this is more suited to another forum than the Clubs area.

  15. Good Morning everyone. Wanted to introduce myself a little to the forum. Have been a golfer for about 20 years or so. Actually, I take that back, I have owned clubs for that long, not sure that I have ever been a golfer. Played quite a bit in my mid-20s (good excuse to get out to someplace green), but then got settled down and have a family, and the clubs come out once or twice a year now for a golf outing. For whatever reason this year the bug has bitten me hard and I really want to get back into things. Im realizing I need to get back to fundamentals like my grip, but also on the hunt for some new-to-me clubs, so will be posting in that forum with some questions soon. Thanks for having me!
