Don't be afraid of swinging for the fences. Obviously don't do stupid stuff like over-rotate and flipping your wrists...but take some full swings at it with your driver. Depending on the course you're playing at, I might rather be hitting 270 yards and in the rough than 200 and in the fairway. That is a 6-7 club difference for most people!

If you're going to school...I can guess you probably aren't an old guy. 200 sounds very very short for even a smaller young guy. I'm about 5'9" and 160 and I can hit 275+ more than a few times per round. If you're hitting every fairway, but it is only going 200 yards...you must have a very compact and abbreviated swing with your driver. I mean I could be wrong but that's the only thing I can think of.

I got a Cobra S3 for $70 on ebay in awesome condition. Great club.

My course doesn't charge labor for grips. They do Tour Velvets for like $6-7 a club. I recently got the Golf Pride VBR grips and I really like them. Same price as tour velvet, but a bit more tacky.

I use them as long as possible. Usually until there is a hole in the thumb. Gloves are expensive considering how easily they wear out.

You only recommend brands you are sponsored by. This recommendation isn't really valid. Either way, I don't think you need to go spend $800-1000 on a set of irons, especially blades. Go to ebay and look for a set in new/good condition. I play a set of MP-14's (circa 1999) and they play no differently than MP-69's (2012). Don't rule out the Nike VR Pro, and Cleveland 588 along with various Mizuno and Titleist blades. You should be able to find a good set for $300-500. Possibly even brand new (I've seen VR Pro's for $500 with the plastic still on em). EDIT: From what I know, Nike bought the patent from Mizuno for the MP-14's to create their VR/Pro blades per request of Tiger Woods. He played MP-14's in all his amateur titles. Shows you how far iron technology has changed in blades; none at all.

They are all the same. Just get the one you think looks the best and/or is the cheapest.

I refuse to practice off of a mat. It doesn't give way like grass does.

I rather like my set...but a couple changes. - keep my current driver (Cobra S3) - Replace my 5W 904f with a Ping G15/20 fairway wood - I love my MP-14 irons, no change there - Get rid of my Ping tour wedge, replace with 2 more 588's (60* and 51*) to go with my 54* - Scotty newport to replace my Ping D66 iWi.
