  1. Unfortunately Sergio has dug this ditch on his own. While I admire his ball striking, I lost some respect for him at the cup spitting incident. Was he even thinking!!?? Since then I find it hard to cheer for him, but ultimately, if he plays well, I admire his golf. When he starts on how everything goes against him etc., well, then I get annoyed. As to spitting, well I smoke cigars on the course, and yeah, I do spit. But certainly try to keep it off the greens!
  2. MY apologies! It was indeed the wording - was it a "dangling participle" that threw me? (grammar was never a hit with me) I scratched my head a bit actually when I read your post, as it seemed you were deeply involved with them - but then again, I know many windows admins that would dump windows in a second... So I didn't immediately assume a positive vote for the Mac platform.
  3. ...A somewhat scathing reply.... It would better serve the casual reader if you were to elucidate your reasons, rather than simply denounce a product out of hand. For myself, I have had nothing to fault with my Macs since I switched years ago. Reliability has been good, security is good, as has performance and general product satisfaction.... From the server side I cannot comment since I am simply a home user of Macs )and our institution is PC centric).
  4. I gather that with the introduction of the Intel line of chips, gbk is refering to the ability to run Parallels, VMWare Fusion, or Boot Camp to run "Windows. I use both Parallels and Boot Camp, and iff you really need a windows app, you got it. The new iMacs look incredible. If I didn't already own a G5, I would probably get one!!
  5. Try CTGolfer Online. They list courses by town. I'v not played any courses up that way, so I can't offer a valid suggestion, but often there are comments left on the website for the individual courses that may be helpful... give it a shot.... and some courses have their home websites listed.
  6. "as a beginner".... That's the important operative here. Starting out, just buy affordable balls, since my guess is you will lose your share. And just the help out, but the same kind, to maintain consistency of the feel. When you start making good, consistent contact, then you might want to experiment with different balls. You will feel a difference. Your swing speed will contribute to how the balls feel, and you should eventually settle on one that matches your swing. So as a beginner, I'd go with a cheaper ball Bridgestone e5, e6, Nike Juice might be good.... If you can't tell the difference, by the cheapest ball you can stand to hit. YMMV
  7. ...Honestly?... Find a shop that carries both, and spend some quality time hitting both... Decide based upon which YOU hit better, not what others tell you.... And if you can, see if you can take a demo set out to play a round. That will really help you decide. Just MHO... FWIW I have the MX25 and love them...
  8. I bought the Super Cage Mouth.... It was a Super pile of crap.... never once did I get it to stand up correctly. The only real solution is a golf cage.... Bought one and love it....
  9. I like the Mizuno's I recently purchased (used).... They're MX-25s. Perhaps it is the forged club thing - I don't know... I do know that going from r7s to the MX-25 is eye opening. The MX25 is perhaps not as forgiving, but there is a definite "feeling" when you hi these well. I know there are pundits out there who claim that you can't tell the difference between cast and forged with today's technology, but I think that is not true. If you compare similar price point irons and give them honest evaluation by testing them in a proper session, you may see what all the fuss is about - or you may not.... YMMV.... Mike
  10. I've been using mine just fine, but I'm in CT.... Have you tried resetting the GPS? (its under the advanced menus...
  11. Right!.... What I find myself doing after aligning my putt would be to say to myself, "that doesn't look right" then putt on a line different from the line on the ball, and miss... The original line mark was the right one. I keep telling myself to trust it, and over and over I fail to do so.... "what a stupid I am!"
  12. Arnold Palmer said that if you're given the opportunity to use a tee, than use it.... So, if I were you, I'd take his advice, particularly since you are new to the game. Hitting off the tee is a bit easier, and gives you a small measure of a "perfect lie" (how the ball sits on the ground). I recommend getting Golf for Dummies -- don't laugh, its and easy introduction to many aspects of the game.... And Gary McCord keeps if light and humorous, which makes it easy to read. Above all, don't take yourselves too seriously, and enjoy yourselves! Golf should be fun...
  13. The implication is that "Tiger" is exciting.... The "in the hole" garbage adds nothing to the "excitement" of Tiger - or anyone else for that matter. Tournaments can be boring. I watch the majority of them, but often while doing something else.... even then, when I hear some ignoramus shouting "in the hole" I cringe and shake my head. Apologies to ignoramuses everywhere whom I may have insulted... just my humble opinion....
  14. ...You're kidding... I sincerely hope!! ??????? Excitement ?????????
  15. Whiplash.... See the problem is the old "its a Windows world"... I have know IT support people with UNIX backgrounds that simply hate administering windows, and love the Mac environment since it is UNIX based..... The "cult" attitude I think is more of an appreciation of what Macs do for the people that use them. The iPhone should be adequate for business. Though I would add voice dialing and memo recording.... It is not perfect, but for a first release, it is astounding.... Try one at an Apple store... I wasn't going to get one. Until I actually picked it up. Eventually I'd like to see some customization available for the users (not hacked based, that's been done already).
  16. Drives me nuts... Frankly, at the risk of insulting someone on the boards that may indeed partake in such nonsense - I think they're jerks. "Get in the hole" and "You da man" - sheesh, come on, do you REALLY think that is cool??????
  17. kurt - EDGE is slow - but usable... The iPhone will connect to any open wifi hotspot, and then it is fast. Check wikipedia for more info. The touchscreen is no worse than a keyboard for making a phone call. Yes, voice dial will be better, and I think they will bring it in a software update. Its not perfect, but it certainly is usable as a smartphone. I have grown to like mine and actually regret not getting the 8Gb model. The video is suberb for its size, though it is a bit contracsty, in that you lose shadow detail quite a bit. This applies to movies I converted with Handbrake, and they look that way in Quicktime as well, so it could be the way its extracted.... If you pick one up at the store, they're very addictive....
  18. I practice it whenever I go to a range or course... I SHOULD practice chipping & pitching more, as I am giving away too many shots close to the greens.
  19. I didn't want one... until I handled one at the Apple store... Walked out with the "cheaper" 4Gb model... Should have gotten the 8Gb model - for the video. So yeah - EDGE sucks, but all the other features are pretty decent. A pain you need to "unlock' the phone to answer it!
  20. At first I wasn't going to buy golf shoes... Now I never play without them. Well fitting shoes do indeed make a difference!
  21. I certainly wouldn't be laissez faire over it! Frankly the $450 tag is a bit much for me. Even at our local public courses I am upset when the courses get backed up. I guess on the marquee courses here, people just want to be able to say they played them. But for me, it just doesn't wash. A round of golf should be enjoyable, not simply a prestige thing. I can't think of any other reason people would tolerate it...
  22. There is really a lot to consider, such as how much you want to devote to the game, whether you have goals in the sports, etc.... If you just want to play an occasional round now and then, I'd go with the Raptures, as they are a real improvement iron. If you're dedicated and want to make the effort, I liked my r7's. They come with a t-step 90 shaft which is very light - if that is your preference, but you can also shaft them with other, heavier shafts. Ideally, it would be to your advantage to find a place where you can hit some of these, and going further, under the eyes of a pro who can offer some guidance based on what he sees with your swing... Ultimately, if you try, you'll make do with whatever you choose
  23. I think lamebums has done a good job of putting it into perspective. Though for many new golfers the driver is the last club they should be trying to hit. Just about every teaching pro will say the game is best learned green to tee, not tee to green. While I see the wisdom in that, try to explain that to someone who can't hit a driver off that tee... even with all the tech. the length of the driver shaft makes it hardest to hit squarely. There are days I simply can't hit it, and often i hit the 3W WAY better. If you know you can hit your driver, do it. Otherwise, there is no 'shame' in hitting a fairway wood off the tee. Go with what works.
  24. I agree that we need to be able to "deal with" knowing our scores. I only play recreational golf, so it's not as important to know it, but I have found myself in the position of realizing I'm in the middle of a good round than - ZAP - I start to ruin it. I believe it all comes down to feeling confident on your game - or rather, to trust in your particular level of play, and that you can play to that level regardless of the situation. Hey - if you can play one hole at par.... why not the next.... Hard to do!!!!! But its a good thought...
  25. I disagree. (This actually sounds a bit like a trolling post, as it offers nothing relevant to the discussion... but that aside...) I have built my own pc's for close to twenty years - something I'll never be able to do for my Mac - and I managed them with care. I can say that coming from both sides of the pond, the Mac experience has been, by a long stretch, a much better one. With the advent of Boot Camp, I can boot into windows for the odd app that isn't available on a Mac. Mac users, contrary to your insinuation, are actually a lot happier with their computers than windows users. Perhaps the windows people don't post because they are unhappy, and don't want to lie to others... The windows/mac debate is moot - windows won. The market share is simply too big to change that, but on the consumer lever, I venture to say that Apple will continue to gain converts from the windows world. An OS based on unix is - well - IMHO - far superior.... Blast away!
