  1. I am definitely more prone to remember all my bad shots. I try to learn alot from what I do wrong.
  2. well put. I am going to have to once again put my foot in my mouth. I'll stop posting until I know what I am talking about.
  3. Ive started doing a jumbo bucket and a medium bucket.
  4. oh okay..so its just the result of turning your hips properly?
  5. Could someone explain the difference between hipslide and rotating the hips. I feel that when you really rotate the right hip through it automatically pulls the body towards the left foot
  6. you are 100% correct on the motions, these are based on basic anatomical position. When going through a golf swing though, its pretty hard to get a good supination without involving some flexion. I guess it is a combination of the two that I am talking about.
  7. oh on the contrary man, wrist supination and wrist flexion are almost identical motions when swinging. I may be wrong and there may be more then one way to skin a cat but hogan says that you can't supinate that left wrist too much. And the process of supination automatically moves your wrist in the ulnar direction. Pronation is apparently a no no. I am not a pro, so I could be making myself sound stupid but as long as my wrist doesnt straighten (extend/pronate) out until well after impact the ball really flies.
  8. what does shortening your swing mean? I thought you create lag with A cocking your wrists in the back swing, B involving the hips last in the back swing and first in the downswing and C keeping your wrist supinated (cocked) when swingiing through the ball.
  9. I too have dealt withlow back problems (sports injury), and as a medical student and patient I'll give you some insight as to what I did to help alleviate it. I would first go to a physician and see what exercises they say you can do. The two things that help it the most are weight lifting and yoga. I would avoid high impact running and hit the ellipticals (some of the higher end models at places like 24 hr fitness are pretty good at simulating running if thats your thing. What you should focus on for relieving back pain are your legs, gluts, abs (core) and back. Back extensions, as someone mentioned are a great way to strengthen your back, I would recommend doing these without weights. Gluts and core are the other two more important things to work on, yoga certainly helps. You can look up a variety of exercise regimens and see what are the best for you. Don't neglect your upper back and shoulders. Remember not to overdo it for the first month to 6 weeks. Lastly Legs outta be a focal point as well. As you strengthen the core and lower back muscles (along with gluts/legs/upper back), you outta notice your back pain go away. Stay away from some of the explosion type exercises (power cleans, others) until you have a significant change in back pain, even then I would go to a physician and make sure they approve. As an alternative I hear P-90X is really good, this type of combined aerobic anaerobic exercise is the new wave of exercise and really helps shave off the lbs pretty quickly As far as what will help you hit the ball better. The muscles involved are the "inside muscles" of the leg (adducters, gluts), the hamstrings, hips, medial back muscles, shoulder (including rotater cuff), and your forearms. Working out theoretically all your muscles should help your golf game but getting rid of that back pain would really help you out. I found what helped me most was working my forearms. There is a 20 dollar gripper device called the captains of crush. This device will signficantly increased your forearm strength. You can look up a a variety of exercises for the other muscles though.
  10. man if you can hit your irons and your hybrid you'll be fine. Honestly regardless of the club, if I can't hit it warming up for a round, I avoid it unless I am having a particularly good day hitting the ball. I've found that all the shots I have trouble making, I have trouble visualizing as well.
  11. My northface jacket, I always carry some hothands with me, keeps my hands and golfballs warm.
  12. Medical School...On vacation, then time off for research.
  13. Reading greens. If I were to get graded on this it would be a definite F-
  14. Truer words have never been spoken. I love my driver, but I wish I loved my putter more...
  15. Thing of beauty that is.
  16. well put. I made myself sound like an idiot. I'll record some shots at the driving range either way.
  17. I usually jsut go to the range and let it fly. Someone showed me the average from the PGA tour today, after I saw that, I saw that my statement was quite naive.. While I am addicted to golf, I didn't pay much attention to stats. I was just saying I honestly thought the pros carried much further than 300, I thought average players carry 280-300. I stood corrected but I can hit the ball pretty damn far.
  18. Is there really any quick fixes in golf?
  19. yeah I am happy with hitting a natural fade, it's been good to me. I just want to add the draw to my repertiore of shots. I was thinking I could just add a little bit more right hand to the shot to draw it. I am assuming I am going to need lessons in order to learn a draw. Nice shot btw. I have only gotten that close to the green on some straight par 4's or slight dog legs right.
  20. I just love the sound it makes when I really get into a shot.
  21. All the pros preach hitting your shot in the same position in your stance on every shot (and moving your feet depending on the club). Watch some videos by the shark, ben hogan also preached this
  22. I bought a chipping net a few weeks ago from target and was wondering what you guys thought about these? I try to get a nice arch on the ball to land it in the net softly (even though I rarely get the longer short shots in). I am adhering to Nichlaus in using my sand wedge for all my short shots. I bought this because when I practice on a green I feel I have no purpose (as opposed to the driving range) and I feel all my practice is wasted. I don't know how to waggle or swing because I don't know what distance I am going to hit it. I have a bunch of practice balls and was considering going out to a field and practicing my short shots (which I typically hit too far or off target). I am considering bringing it to the chipping greens as well. What are your suggestions to practicting my short game/how to use this sucker or if I should use it?
  23. oh the only wrist action I'm talking about is pronating my left wrist (as ben hogan instructs in his book) during my downswing.. I adhere to this book to a T. This gets me a fade 9 times out of 10 (excluding those shots that were poorly executed) I was just assuming I could do something else to get a draw...guess its time for some classes
  24. Well I will record me driving the ball as far as I can and it'll prove you wrong (with regard to not meeting someone who can hit the ball but has a bad short game. I have spent the past 6 months working on my ball striking and have neglected my short game. I have been a horrible putter, but am improving, I am averaging two putts a hole (down from 3 putts). My problem with my short game is that I never practice it and often misjudge the shot, usually dropping the ball past where it needs to go). Guess I'll go practice my chipping right now.
