  1. Don't quit on a bad note, maybe go see your pro about the shank? Finish on a good note, then go get ready for the hockey season.
  2. So, so wrong. I'm sorry, I ride show horses. I have sat on a 1000 # horse that is galloping at 25mph, and that's slow, with my knees up to my chin. You as the rider must move with the horse, steer, and be able to stop said equine. Trust me, I've seen some rank horses at the track that stand up, buck, and run away with their riders. The jocks are fit and very athletic. I agree that golfers are athletes. My kid plays 6 days a week walking, and is at the gym 4 days a week because his pro wants him there working on certain things. My kid is fit and trim, and IMHO is very athletic.
  3. I think it's great...that after, key word here, someone you are playing with asked you for help, then help them. The difference is you didn't offer help first without the other player/friend asking first. It is a horrid pet peeve of mine. I don't golf, I'm just a golf mom. My kid has a handi of 4.3. Trust me....I've sat in a golf cart and watched my son be told what and why his drive/iron....whatever club he happens to be using at the time, draw, fade, slice, or is just plain short, by gentlemen that think they're "helping" him. My kid has a pro, but he also knows to respect his elders. He nods, he shakes hands with them, and he thanks them. But he ignores their advice. If he is having issues, well that's what his pro is for.
  4. I couldn't agree more, and while you're in the process of saying this...offer him your pros business card.
  5. I've seen tourneys where my kid or some other kid will say to the group...we need to pick it up...we're playing slow. I've seen tourneys last from 5 hours to, yes, 7.5 hours for 18 in 100 degree heat. Now that wasn't their fault, the group in front of them was slow. But back on topic, I think you handled it very well.

Why be bitter? X-20's I'm ASSuming these are irons? My kid as of right now is playing with a set of irons that are 20 years old. Ping eye 2's black dot. Yes they happen to be a nice iron for him at this moment, but I've already been warned by his pro that he will need new irons by Christmas. No problem, we've been aware that he will out grow them/will be ready to move on to new set of irons soon. It's his Christmas present for goodness sakes. Now...why in the world would you think that my kid, or every kid out there that happens to play golf..."get whatever they want"? My kid is far from being stuck up nor arrogant. I'd kill him if he were. Back to YOU. I'd advise you to remove said chip from your shoulder and broaden your mind. I'm not sure how old you are...but if I were to bet on it...I'd put you in 14 through 16 age bracket. Maybe I'm right...maybe I'm wrong. By all means prove me wrong.

It has nothing to do with being privileged, it has to do with priorities. I'm not trying to sound like a snob, our family is far from being "Rich". I grew up in the horse show industry. If you think the kids that are carrying 3k worth of equipment on their backs are wealthy...then I'll have to inform you that parents have and will pay 650K for a pony that wins. Golf is cheap compared to the horse industry. I also know many parents that have a budget for golf for their kids. We all try to cut corners, I'm not the only golf Mom out there doing it. It can be done.

Well I wouldn't lump them together like that. Yes there are some spoiled kids out there, but guess what...they all aren't on the course. And edited to add...you sound a bit bitter.

    Junior Golfers

I'm a golf mom. We have made many sacrifices for my son to play on a jr tour and belong to a cc. What his goals are...and he just entered his junior year, and plays on the varsity golf team, with a handi of 4.3, is to play college golf. He has very good grades, and he loves this sport. So, no, he doesn't work while in school. School comes first, then golf. Now with regards to the financial aspect of it.....we pay a low monthly jr rate for the cc. He sees his pro maybe twice a month, more if something crops up, swing...etc. He runs us 55 bucks for an hour. His pro is also a good friend of ours, so that helps. Clubs....well, we plan ahead and start budgeting for them prior to him needing them. Basically his pro will try and warn us four months in advance that the kid may be headed for a change in a club, maybe due to him going through a growth spurt, strength, or he's just about out grown the club/clubs. The scotty cameron was bought, by him, for vanity, his pro told him any putter will do. The worst of all of it, is the tourneys. A two day tourney will run us 500. That includes.....food, gas, hotel, entry fees...and so forth. We do try to find one day tourneys, less money, but they're very hard to come by where we live. I will say this, my son does help when I need help at my part time business. I also sold my show horse to be able to afford this game, and we are very lucky that his Dad has a great job. So now that I've rambled on and on....that's how we afford this game. My son is very grateful for what we have as a family, done to support and encourage him. Oh and I only have one kid.
  11. First off I'm just a golf mom. Yes it was rude of him to have his cell phone on, plus carrying on a conversation. But...and there is always a but...he was on the adjacent fairway. Correct? How narrow is your course? I've been at many Jr tourneys where the kids that are teeing off, hear the parents clapping or yelling "good Putt" on an adjacent green that I can't even see. Stuff happens on the course all of the time. I've seen some crazy stuff from these parents of the juniors. Bottom line is...my kid is pretty much bomb proof when it comes to playing in tourneys or practice. He's used to it...it's not the Masters.

    Wish me Luck!

Yeah...I can beat that. My sons high school played in Myrtle Beach this year, he's 2 on the varsity team. Anywho I'm watching the scores being posted and one of the scores was 204. I'm not kidding. I said to the person that was posting the scores that has to be a typo. She said no, it was an actual score. I felt soooo bad for the kid, but more upset with the coach that let this kid play. How upsetting that must have been for him/her. To the OP, keep up the good work!
  13. As a mom...and usually at my my sons tourneys...I'll keep all tourney cards, he turns his in. Other then that, I have the cards where he's eagled a few holes. If I kept them all I'd have to rent a storage facility.
  14. I read this off of a different board/forum for training/practice. I'm a golf mom, so I mentioned it to my son who decided to try it. One man scramble. Off the tee he'll play two balls, but he plays the worst ball. It's helped him learn how to get out of some tricky places. Now he only does this if the course is empty, and he can only stand doing it for about 6 to 8 holes. It gets a bit difficult, but he's learning how to handle those "oh My God" now what...shots.
  15. Bingo! My kid has a 7 handi....his drives range from 200 to 250. He switches tee boxes all of the time. He says, I don't play, that it changes the course, and it's good for him to play different clubs. For tourneys, and he knows the course will be long, then yes, he'll play from the tips for a week prior to the tourney. Heck he's played off the ladies just to work on his irons.

    Tournament Tips

I'm just a golf mom...but here are a few things my son has learned while playing tourneys. He's on two junior tours, one junior tour runs two days for every tourney. We always make sure he gets in at least one practice round. During that practice round he takes notes. In other words, what clubs worked, which clubs didn't, hazards, greens, and so on. During the practice round, if he wasn't happy with his first shot he will take a drop, though he does still play off his first ball. There are no gimmies, if he lips out a putt it's still counted as a stroke. On the day of the tourney he has a small binder that fits into his back pocket that has his notes from the practice round. He reads them and applies what he learned during those practice rounds to the round he's playing at the tourney. It has helped like you would not believe. I wish you luck.
  17. New here, and I'm just a golf Mom. Since you're a certified personal trainer, I'm assuming in golf training/fitness, you may want to look at private fitness centers. I had a heck of time finding a trainer that was willing to work with my son at a fitness center. Most trainers want to add bulk, that's not what his pro wanted for my son. We want length and flexibility, and cardio. His fitness trainer that took forever to find, now works with my sons pro as my son grows, and changes. It has worked out great for us. Just a thought, good luck.
