  1. Fair enough. That second 3 wood would not leave me in better shape than a 7i, and this is assuming a monster par 5. But, to each there own I suppose. You know your game better than I do.
  2. How long are the par 5s you're thinking of? Every par 5 I play is reachable in 3 with a drive and two 7 iron shots.
  3. I find my new clubs much easier to hit, and I beleive they helped me get to my current handicap in just the 5 months since I picked up golf again. I started again in july after not having played since HS (5 years), using the same clubs I had back then. The shafts weren't stiff enough and the clubs were old and nasty ;). I bought new clubs and my shots went alot further and straighter. Unless it's a choice between playing and new clubs, which I assume it isn't (you wouldn't be buying clubs that were too expensive to allow you to play), I think new clubs can really improve your game.
  4. If I'm walking and my friends are in a cart, I'll usually just hold onto the side, with my bag on, and have them drop me off where our paths diverge. this only happens on tee shots though because it's usually the longest stretch on the cart path. It's not like I'm using it extensively, just to speed up play, and it's already paid for. The thing I find most annoying it when the group two groups in front of me is 4 very old, very bad golfers who are all walking very slowly, and are all strictly adhering to the rules. I know this seems bad, but if you duff the shot 3 times off the tee, then the 4th goes into the water 50 yds from the tee, just pick it up and drop with the others in your group, and if you're on your 12th stroke on a hole don't read the putt for 5 minutes then hit it only half the distance to the cup, or talk for 10 minutes trying to figure out who's farther from the hole resorting to using club lengths of your putter to determine who should go first... That is probably the most annoying thing about weekend golf.
  5. We always got warmup balls though, so I never had to go out cold. I thought they came with the tournament, but maybe our school payed for them :/
  6. I remember my big bertha warbird driver that I played in HS. Fun times....
  7. I definitely do, almost all the time, but rarely when I'm not golfing. When I practice putting, chipping, when on the range, when playing by myself or with my brother-in-law, who is the only person I play with outside of the occasional guy who wants to join up. The only time I don't is if I get paired with some random guy I've never met. If I'm riding, I stick my iPhone in the cup holder and set the pandora app on and let it play. If I'm walking I'm usually in scrubs and just stick it in my butt pocket. I honestly don't see how you could call music a distraction, unless you're really bad at focusing.... The only thing that can distract me on the course is maybe a jet flying overhead at supersonic speeds, or my wife calling :)
  8. I drive the ball between 280-300 most of the time, and I am terrible at hitting the green in regulation. I actually do better when I play the 7500 yard tees than when I play the 6500 yard tees at my usual course, probably because of my driver distance. A usual par 4 for me is a drive, approach off the green, chip and 1 putt.
  9. I am definitely one of those. I chip and putt really well and rarely need to 2 putt. I lose my strokes on hitting my tee shot into the woods, then precisely hitting my irons between several branches to get it close.
  10. I've never had to hit my 4 iron in a round yet, though on the range, it's not a problem; It's actually closer to a 3 iron which is fine. I used to hit a 2 iron blade in high school, that I had found in my garage, so long irons really aren't a problem for me. I just picked up a 48 actually :)
  11. Yea 43* is ridiculous for a PW. I should mention I usually carry 10 clubs now so I've got lots of space in my bag.
  12. I just picked up some new clubs that have graphite shafts and I love the light feel, makes the swing much easier I think. Will you pick up distance? Probably. But it might not be enough to make a difference for you.
  13. I recently purchased new irons, 4-pw. My old clubs were a nice set of callaway x-14 pros, and I picked up some UFIs, which, needless to say, are completely different. on the x-14s my PW hit about 130, and i could get by with my SW at 100 in. My new PW hits about 150-145 (very strong loft, closer to a 8.5 iron really), and that leaves me in a bind. As I've started hitting more fairways off the tee, I'm left with alot of 120ish yd approach shots which I don't have a good club for (ironically my slice used to leave me far enough away from the green that I usually had a good club for whatever distance). Question is, what should I get? I've thought about a 48, 52 wedge combo, or a 46, 50 combo. PW is lofted at 43 I think and my SW is the standard 56. Thanks!
  14. Unless he plays on a course with a slope
  15. 1.5 months... I played in High School and didn't play at all through college, then picked it up again this last summer before med school started and got right back into it. I guess it helped that these new fangled clubs are SO much straighter and lighter than the old clubs I hit during high school, but I think it's like riding a bike, " you never forget "
  16. I'm actually going away for the weekend but will have to try this out at a course in Oklahoma.
