  1. Dent, Don't quit. Hockey is important to you, but you will play golf far longer than you will ever play hockey. The shanks will go away soon. Keep going till the snow flies man, that won't be long for us.
  2. My best round this year was a 76. I started off with a par (4) and then proceeded to make 5 bogeys in a row (all 5's) until I went 1 under from the 7th to 17th hole. Bogeyed the last for the 76 and was quite happy. As I recall, I putted like a champion that day and just plain old saw the line and speed on almost every putt. Think I was sitting at an about an 11 handicap on that day.
  3. I, like Diggity above, live in a Northern climate (Winnipeg). And I have also decided to give stack and tilt a try for one full season. I have played 3 rounds using it with some OK results. I've developed some many bad habits this year I'm a little frigged up and hope that eventually one pro here will start teaching the swing. The main reason I am going to give it a try is that my right leg has always straightened on my back swing. So I may as well use that to my advantage. Lean on the left side and let the club go. I hope to squeeze in 20 more rounds before the snow flies in late October and hope to report some good results and hopefully break 80 5 times out of the 20.
  4. Happened just yesterday. I was playing in my club's open golf tournie. 5th hole, in a greenside bunker. Hole out for a 3 on a tough hole. Probably made $75 by doing that.

It is completely possible for a 19 to shoot an 82. He must have made a bunch of long putts, hit a few good drives and avoid penalties. It can happen. I know when I break 80, all the guys I play with are impressed. This weekend had a 76, but then came right back with an 87. It's a fickle game.
  6. I promise.
  7. Two 86's on the weekend at my home course. Both were beautiful days, so was disappointed with the scores. My bag is basically brand new, so still have a lot to get used to.

    I broke 90!

way to go. I think you will find that now you have done it, you will do it more often. breaking 80 is even more work, but that'll come as well, especially with the good short game that it sounds like you have, or will get. I wouldn't come close to breaking 90 without a good short game.
  9. Hey Kenny, Do it. You get to play when you want. You can show up to the course with $.25 in your pocket and get away with it (as long as you have some sort of food thing/billing) My home course is set up where I can go out and play 5 or 10 holes. Great practice. I have often shown up later in the evening, had the place to myself, and played a few holes with 5 balls in play. You meet people, gain a few friends etc. Good luck with your choice.
  10. There are three things I can't do when I have had more than 1 beer. Golf (especially any short game shot), Bowl, and Pitch (slo pitch/softball). My balance gets messed up. I've been plastered on the golf course, but it was a work thing, they paid, and gave me a ride home (all of us on a bus!!). Drugs are for losers. I have only encountered that once on a golf course and I simply don't like it. I have often seen people get unruly and drunk on the course and I just do get it. Drunk is OK, but when you get STUPID, that's when I want to throw you in the cummy pond!
  11. I will watch the playing lesson series whenever I can. They give great tips, especially on course management. Academy Live could be dangerous as they would often say different things on it. I certainly wish they would bring Kelly back on some shows now that it is clear that her and Nick are no longer on the cover team. They obviusly brough Inga in to replace Kelly's presence and then pulled the plug too quick. But love the golf channel and watch it almost as much as network TV.
  12. Turns out I was wrong. We open on Friday the 20th, so I get to play this weekend on my home course!! Rossmere is a nice course, too bad about the greens a few years ago. We have made a ot of good changes, and they have a few more planned this year that could toughen it up a little more.
  13. Pretty sure the only place in Canada that has year round golf is BC..you lucky dogs. Despite the cold and the bugs, (by the way, last year was pretty much bug free!!) we seem to have a season just as long as Ontario, AB and its longer than what they have in the Maritimes. Dent, did you play this past weekend? Where do you play out of? I play out of Transcona. Everything "looks" dry and almost snow free, but I don't think we will open until the week of the 23rd, just will have to be a green fee'er for another weekend.
  14. What drives me a little crazy is the lack of respect that some people give the game. Most of the time I play at courses that have relaxed or no dress code. And I see all kinds of crap such as the kid playing ahead of me with an ugly untucked orange T shirt, uglier lime green shorts, runners with no socks, his buddy was not much better. On my home course, we have a dress code, but the boys in the clubhouse don't enforce it at all. When i see I made it a soft goal this year to always show up at the course "looking" like a golfer. I may not always playing like one, but I intend to look the part. As far as wild colors, white belts and such go, that is not for me. But if you pull off the look, and can take the redicule..go for it, as long as the clothing gives the game the respect it deserves go ahead a wear it.
  15. Played April 15, 2007 - First round of the year 44 + 39 = 83 For the first round, in still pretty wet and soggy conditions, I was pretty happy. I one putted 7 times, but also have 5 three jacks. But that's typical for me after a 5 month lay off. I was pleased with my new driver, and the Cobras with the super expensive shafts were awesome. I have some issues with the New Bridgestones, so those won't be in play into later this week. So was just playing with my old irons. Looking forward to a great year.
