  1. I have had a few different models. First I had the Golflogix, the 7 version and then upgraded to the 8 version. Solid, very stable and does what it needs to do. I was a bit annoyed at the subscription, but it was reasonably good value and they did respond quickly for new course requests. Then I found a SkyCaddie SG5 at a good price and it had extra features like scorecard stats, more feature details etc and I used it for most of this year. But, when I did some work in Europe I realized I would need to upgrade my subscription to include European courses, so I ended up not using it for most of my final 2010 rounds. So I finally got annoyed with the subscription model and now have a Garmin G5 on the way. My friend uses the Golflogix app on his blackberry and he loves it except for the fact that it eats battery power and it almost has "too many" features - so much so his pace of play is actually slowing down and now he uses less of the functions. So for me the Garmin G5 has the features I want - good reliable GPS performance, good course selection (ie everything I play), score card/stats feature and small or no subscription. The G5 has no subscription UNLESS you want European courses and since I don't have a basic subscription fee this sold it for me with the G5. But I haven't used the G5 yet so I have no real idea if I made the right decision - but based on reviews, I think it is the right GPS for me.
  2. From this thread, trackman testing found 15% distance loss on the Srixon range balls. http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/...ar-golf-balls/
  3. Golftown is Canada's version of the Big Box golf store. So, depending on the location, you will find over 100 sets of irons on display at any given time with a variety of shafts. But, and this is a big but, the standard is to stock what the manufacturer ships that they can sell. So exotic shafts don't often appear, for example. But you can also get custom options fitted as required - so if you don't want DGS S300, you can request something different from manufacturer and they will order for you or you can go crazy and get Golftown to do full re-shaft - at additional cost of course. So what does your local golf store stock that is different? I would have thought all comparable big box stores would have the same strategy. http://www.golftown.com/Category_LIS...&CategoryId;=77 On this link within the first two pages I can find DG, KBS, Nippon as std shafts as well as the variety of graphite options and my local GT store has this stuff in stock now or I have seen it recently.
  4. Congrats! Best days in my life were the birth of my kids - enjoy it since it all goes by sooooo fast. And she looks like she has a good grip already This past summer I was able to FINALLY get out with my Daughter and Son (11 and 9 respectively) for 12 holes of REAL golf. This was such a great moment for me since it really joined the passion I have for my family and for golf. Now if I could only get my wife to come along ....
  5. Sorry, I disagree. I can walk to my ball with rangefinder in hand and be ready with club and distance by the time my playing partner has shot. I actually believe it has helped me play faster in the sub-100 yard range since I can ow have comfort in knowing the distance. And as an aside, a few years ago I started to find my short distances were way off. So I spoke with my eye Doctor and she said it is not uncommon for the ability to properly perceive depth to have this issue - same with other depth judgment sports. So I got the rangefinder and did some experimenting in the sub 100 range. First I would guess, then I would laser and in about 90% of the cases, my guess was more than 25% too long and as I got to within 50 yards the difference was nearly 50%. So, while unscientific, I found that the ability for me to accurately guess yards was not sufficient. Markers are helpful but some of the courses I play don't seem to be that accurate as well. So Rangefinder for distance inside 100 yards is now automatic for me. And the proof is in the pudding - my sub-100 yard game is now much better all around and my scores, particularly the short components have fallen by about 25%.
  6. I wash them after every couple of rounds, especially if the conditions have been overly messy. But key for me is the grips. I find if I give them a good scrub quite often they last much longer and stay in better shape when used. But, I make sure to plug the grip end when submersing. I recently pulled some grips for a friend that was visibly rusty under the grip. He said he washes his clubs after each round by submersing the heads and then grips for up to 5 minutes each way. But he never ever blocked the hole and the clubs were literally disintegrating form the inside out. But they were also about 8-10 years old.
  7. This is also my experience. I have recently moved to the centre shaft Hanna and I have NEVER made so may putts in the 6-20 foot range in my life. Maybe I need to buy up the reminaing stock of Hanna's that are still around
  8. Same issue with me - no, not the marijuana I have been working so hard on the swing this year and made great progress, except for the tension in my arms and hands. So over the past two weeks I have been "letting" the arms and hands stay loose (i mean really loose, like it feels club will escape loose) and trusting it. And you know, it has worked. But it takes constant vigilance, at least for me. So I now use my practice swings in this totally off the charts loose manner and it seems to be helping. So my general conclusion is that it is REALLY hard to actually lose the club despite having a looser connection to the club, so you CAN trust it by relaxing the tension without fear of mortal danger.
  9. I have bought a few things from Golfetail - never an issue that I have experienced.
  10. Surely if you are PaddyHarrington, you should be buying more Wilson's though Being under contract and all ..... I have hit both S9 and S2 Max and did not notice much difference, but then again, my swing is not so precise in any event.
  11. I use the Sharpro Velvet wraps and they are easily my favourite grip and I am able to get them on the 'bay for far less than anything close my local golf shop offers. I put them on myself and I am ready to go. I have also used the half coloured tour velvet and they were also great but I prefer the velvet wrap style. I have nothing but great things to say about Sharpro and will continue to buy them.
  12. I can be a very bad putter but I found a way to get back on track that works EVERY time for me - now if I could only not HAVE to get back on track. It is: exaggerate the follow through - I find when I work on this in practice and on the course, I am able to make so many more putts outside of 6 feet it is not funny. But over time I forget and gradually work back to a shortish follow through and that is when the putts stop falling. It is kinda embarrassing I can know the solution, yet I need to creep back into it again and again.....
  13. Depends on carrier. I find UPS brokerage charges to be highest ($15), then Fedex ($10) then USPS/CP ($5 to $0). In any event the carrier will then be required to collect tax on values over $60 (I think this is the threshold but it is close to this). But I also find USPS/CP is really hit or miss on getting hit with charges of any kind. In my own experience, I would say I have paid charges only 3 times out of 10, whereas for Fedex/UPS it is 100%. One exception was a recent experience with Fedex (from 3Balls golf). Since the value was under $60 CAD, I paid NO brokerage fees or taxes. So it seems like Fedex only charges brokerage fees when they actually do something, like collect taxes, whereas UPS charges them in all cases in my experience. So to calculate it, use 5% (for GST) for values over $60 plus the brokerage fees mentioned to get an idea how much it will all cost. No extra duties are applicable on golf equipment nowadays.
