So ive been interested in the Mx200's but they are a bit out of my price range. Someone mentioned the MX-25's .

I like the look of those clubs, but how do they play? Anyone have any experience with them?

Are they made of the same metal as their classic forged irons like the mp lines? And if so, do they degrade just as fast? I ask cuz Im looking to buy used.

Thanks guys!

They are as good. And yes, made using the same 1025 soft Carbon metal and grain flow forged technology. As for buying them pro-owned, I think it depends on their status. You would find something good on Ebay. Don't bother yourself much about their rate of "decay". Just pick up a fairly used set and take care of it while using it; avoid playing shots that you know could leave dings or dents on the clubs, avoid submerging them in water, clean them with a moist towel and dry them right away, try when cleaning to clean the club face only, try not to get water inside the pocket on the back side of the head because these dry harder and might cause rust on the long run, and do not use iron head covers.

Keep on these lines and they should last you a long time.

Why would you say not to use headcovers?

Headcovers keep moisture on the club and cause rust. I think it's more of a problem with forged irons (like almost all Mizunos) than cast (like most others).

I bought a 'pre-loved' set of MX-25s and they are awesome, don't worry too much about them falling apart, they are just a tad softer so don't hit into rocks or anything stupid.

Also echo the above, keep them dry, the lower irons have a "groove" in the cavity so don't get water in there and don't leave them sweaty in your trunk.

Awesome chart amused! Thanks. Those irons are right up my alley. Gonna call a local place that sells used irons and see if they have a set in stock. They are cool about demoing out clubs for a week before you buy, so hopefully they have em in stock in the shaft I want...

Appreciate that chart!

These clubs are great and durable. I've owned these for about 2 years and I submerge mine in the club cleaner every time I take a shot. Dry it off with a towel and put my HEAD cover back on. YES, I use head covers. They do help protect from dings and nicks on the clubs, especially forged. No rust, just clean clubs.

. . .Someone mentioned the MX-25's .

They're forged carbon steel clubs. They will rust as you play them over the years naturally due to the carbon steel being exposed to moisture from nicks and scratches in the clubface, despite being nickel plated. I've had mine for a little over 2 years. I too have club covers, but do not use them during a round because that is ridiculous taking on/off club covers. They are for storage only. Before the covers go on before the long winter hibernation, I clean them thoroughly with soap & water, dry, and apply wd-40 to the affected rust areas with a brush. Sometimes I use mineral oil. They are not as forgiving as other clubs in the game-improvement area. If you hit the sweet spot, you will be rewarded with a soft buttery feel. If you miss, they will rattle, sting and you will likely be short of your target. I find the stock shaft TT Dynalite SL to be a very weak shaft. I play the R300 and on those days when I am hitting the ball well, I find the ball balloons which makes it very susceptible to the wind. Overall they are quality clubs and will be staying in the bag for a while. All the best. - divot tool

As a matter of fact, this time of the year it is very humid. We have thunder storms and rain with 110 temperatures. Still no rust. It depends on how lazy you are with your maintenance. You can still use these clubs where it's humid.

And for god's sake, irons head covers look STUPID!

Let's keep this on topic please. No need to try to make your self look better and if you want to rant on club covers, go here -->

Oh, I'm not trying to offend you or anything, I apologize if what I said was offensive, and I do withdraw it.

But anyway, Mizuno itself recommends not using iron headcovers. http://www.mizunousa.com/faqs.nsf/get?openform÷=golf
My forged irons have rust showing up on the face of the club, what should I do? Forged heads are made of mild carbon steel that is chrome plated. Once you start hitting golf balls, you scratch the surface of the chrome and eventually expose the raw steel to moisture, and chemicals that can cause rust to form. The best way to minimize rust is to keep the irons dry at all times, wipe them after every shot and at the end of the round with a dry cloth. When cleaning, use only a NYLON brush (no metal) and dry them with a dry towel. If you get some rust forming, spray the surface with WD-40, clean with a soft nylon brush or Scotchbrite pad and wipe them clean with a dry cloth. Some high nitrogen fertilizers, sandy soil conditions and water with high iron content can accelerate the production of rust. The use of iron head covers is not recommended as they trap moisture and accelerate the production of rust.

    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
