I have not used an insert since the XG Hot several years ago. Then I pulled out my old XG Hot and found it to be an interesting experience. >>Can insert fans please compare the various Odyssey inserts? How about the black-i series versus the white ice versus XG ?

I never understood the need for inserts...  if you want a softer feel, play a softer ball.  Don't get me wrong, the avalance of 20 cappers playing Pro V1's and the like is hilarious, but inserts?  Never had the desire for the "feel" they provide.

I am not a fan of inserts by any means, in fact, I despise them. However, some people just like them. I work in a golf shop and I constantly dink around with putters we have on the shelves. I do not like inserts because I feel it is not a "true" feel, and since putters are so personal I can't necessarily explain why.

I would say that the black series has the best insert. I find that the white hot XG and White Ice have no difference in feel the slightest bit. Both of them to me feel "clicky", what I mean is that the combination of the sound and feel just feels unnatural coming from a severe advocate of milled carbon steel putters.

However, the black series to me has the most solid impact feel and the least amount of "clickiness". I'm not a fan, however out of all three of them I personally think that it has a better impact feel. Of course, Black series are going to cost some extra dough. It's all what you think and feel is best.

I would recommend trying a milled putter if you so choose, Clevelands new putters are solid, and of course, you can't beat a Scotty. I think Rife putters are some of the most buttery feeling putters on the market, even with their odd faces. Try them all out, see what you think! Good luck!

I seem to like the double insert White Steel putters now.  Grabbed a 3 Ball SRT one off ebay and LOVE that thing.  So much that I'm going to turn around and sell the brand new White Hot Tour 7H I bought in December off ebay.  I also have a YES Sophia and YES Madison and really like both of them as well.  The one of the 4 which feels too different to me is the White Hot Tour insert.  To each his own I suppose.
