So this year I've been playing and practicing a good bit.  Being unemployed helps in that regard.  I will try and make this short and sweet.  What it comes down to basically is managing the game you play.  So because I've lost distance but I have gained some back since the weather has gotten warmer here is what I've found:

Playing the ball a bit more forward or traditionally I guess between your center and your left heel for right handed golfers I am more consistent.  For a bit I had it in my head to try and compress the ball more and hit down on it more to play the ball back a bit in my stance.  Sometimes with decent results often times not.  So went back to the way mentioned above for ball position.  Just way more consistent on ball striking.

Play to your strengths.  I ain't as long as I used to be by any stretch but what I am is accurate for the most part.  I might end up  a few yards short but at least I am on line pretty consistently.  I also putt decent and always have.  If the putt breaks I aim for the break point and that seems to work pretty good.  Not alot of 3 putts.

I ain't good out of the sand so I avoid traps at all costs.  It is to embarrassing for me to try and hit out with any modicum of efficiency so I don't go in them.  I don't know of any practice facility that is public with a decent sand trap set up to practice out of.

Play one set of irons consistently.  I've many sets which hopefully will be less after this weekend.  I am donating a bunch of sets to my daughter and her garage sale at the Public market here.  Maybe she can make some dough.  Probably the longest hitting for me are my Callaway X16's.  Next up are my FireSoles so I will keep these and play them as the mood strikes me.  The X16's I feel the shaft kick more than on on the FS's.  One is the Memphis 10 shaft the other R300's.

Last but not least forget about the bad shot you just hit and concentrate on the shot at hand.  Sometimes easier said than done but it works.  Oh yea don't take yourself to serious cause you mostly play for enjoyment.  thanks
