I play on my high school golf team and usually shoot in the high 40s (I am not great but I love the game and it's a great opportunity to get out and play).  However, I have been playing pretty badly the past few weeks, having rounds where I have several good holes but some blow-up holes as well which just tank my scores.  I have been having problems over the past year or so with and outside-to-inside swing path, which I have worked over the winter to try and fix and it's gotten better, but it's still not perfect.

Anyway, I have developed a draw-hook kind of thing this past week, and I have been pulling it along with the hook, especially with my driver, 5 wood, and hybrids.  There is too much hand action in my swing, and I am closing the face way too much.  I am having a lesson in a couple of days so I can try and fix it, but I have been aiming way right to compensate for this unfortunate mishap in my swing, and it has been working alright.  Yesterday I shot 49, which is alright for me considering I have had this hook (and I definitely should have and could have shot 45-ish). Today, however, I had some good holes and some blow-up holes as well and shot 57, which is terrible (my drives with my driver and 5 wood were for the most part really bad).  I really want to shoot consistently in the 40s, and even that's been hard for me in the past few weeks because of this.  Hopefully my lesson will fix this, but does anyone have any tips on not hooking it?

Disclaimer: I am not a professional, take what I say FWIW. I would start by trying to deliver the club to the ball with the face more open. If you start hitting straight pulls and then pull fades (as you continue trying to open the face more), then I believe you would need to adjust your swing path to hit more from the inside. If you are already coming from the inside, opening the face should have you starting to hit straight draws. If you open it more you would start to hit push draws. In summary, it may be a path issue or face issue, and I believe if you follow the above advice, you would be able to find out which.

Pull hooks-Draw-Fades-Slices are probably 90% of the time swing path related. You can have a severe shut face, but that would cause more of a duck hook, than a pull hook-draw.

Get your swing video taped, and posted in the member's swing thread. Swing path problems could be a number of things. For me, it was because i was taking the clubhead to far inside. With momentum, the only way to fix this is to re-direct it over the top. I also stood to close to the ball, the only way to hit the ball with out hitting my body is to swing outside in. There's many more things that can cause an over the top swing path as well. So, unless we can see your swing, its hard to say.
