Hey Everyone,

I´m new to this forum so please excuse any formal errors :)

For quite a while now I have been looking for a used and affordable Scotty Cameron Putter. I have tried a couple of new ones in our Pro Shop

but they are just way to expensive.

I found this promising used club on E-Bay but I thin it might be to good to be true. Is there anyone who is an expert regarding Scotty Cameron and

could help me out here?

The seller says its a Scotty Cameron manufactured in 2018. He sells it for 230 Eur (206 GBP).

I just think it might be oldered than he says and even then, compared to other used Scotty Cameron putters its still very cheap.

What do you guys think?

Thank you very much for your help and best regards

That is the proper style for the 2018 model year, but it does appear that the club has some modifications done to it. The paint has been stripped from the rear cherry bombs and is flaking off of the weights in the sole.

From those pictures alone it's hard to determine exactly whether or not the putter is legitimate, but the pricing does seem correct for a genuine one based on the condition of the putter. If I had to guess I would lean towards it being real primarily from the look of the neck. Most counterfeits get it wrong and have sharp corners on the neck rather than the much more rounded corners of the real putters. You definitely would need to have higher resolution photos to say for certain so that you can really see the milling marks on the face and more details everywhere else.

Hey Pretzel,

thank you very much for your quick reply. I wasn‘t expecting that.

I spoke to the seller regarding your tipps. He told me that he removed the paint unintentially by washing the putter.

I am not sure wether i would like to change the grip to a scotty matador grip since i prefer the smaller grips. Do you know wether that is possible/expensive?

Best regards

What the hell did he wash it with?

If the paint came off through any normal means of washing, it's not a genuine club.

I have redone the paint on my Scotty Cameron before, and the paint that comes on it from the factory is pretty tough stuff. It doesn't really want to come off even if you use a wirebrush on it with just water. If it was genuine he'd have to be washing it with acetone to strip the paintfill.

Hi Mberg,

I have stripped the paint from many scotty's and paint filled them myself. Don't worry about the paint you can send any Scotty to the Scotty Custom shop and have them do whatever you want to it, or do it yourself. It isn't hard just search how to paint fill a putter. You need to find a putter that fits your putting style. If that happens to be a blade style then a Newport might be up your ally, however, there are several Newport designs. Check out their website.

Try all the different types of putters and see what fits your stroke. I have 2 scotty cameron futura x-5 putters, but I sink more putts with a Ben Hogan Apex Ppercision Milled HB-1 blade putter that is over 30 years old. I bought it off ebay for $25.00. Good luck on your search for the holy grail. The keys are weight, length, loft and balance. You need to loft a putter so that you impart forward roll as soon as possible, which is somewhere around 3 to 4 degrees of loft. Take your current putter to a club fitter and have him bend your putter to fit your swing. It may surprise you. Aditionally, you can add lead tape to reduce twist and insure that you make square contact. Unless you are really good, the putter is the most important club in your bag. Guys spend $500.00 to hit a ball 5 yards further. What a waste. Get fitted for the putter that fits you or change the playing characteristics of your trusty putter. Don't buy the most expensive one to look cool. I hate losing to a guy with a Zebra putter.

kind regards,

Bill
