Howe faced nobody.

Goalies didn’t even wear masks the first 13 or 14 years he played.

Hockey is kind of interesting when discussing GOATs because it’s relatively simple to adjust points for era.

This post from Copper & Blue is relevant:

Adjust the entirety of NHL history for era affects and some remarkable things appear.

Lemiux tops Gretzky in era adjusted PPG.

Bobby Orr is 5th, geez.

Gretzky wins in basically every advanced metric.

Gretzky had the same adjusted P/G playing 1487 games vs Lemieux's 915 games.   Gretzky played eight years longer and his production dropped dramatically his last seven years which is is going hurt his P/G. That stat (along with literally every other one) should settle the debate.

No he doesn't. Not when you adjust for scoring. In the seasons where they overlapped, despite Lemieux playing on much weaker teams… Lemieux was much better.

When scoring was significantly higher.

EVERYONE's production dropped. Rules changes, goalies getting better, clutch-and-grab, etc.

Sorry, no, the debate is not settled.

I mean, c'mon man, you quoted a post with era-adjusted points per game. Lemieux tops Gretzky despite playing on significantly weaker teams on average.

    • Range day working with the 6 & 7 irons.  As we have grass and it’s been beat to death, I hit off short tee pegs.  Solid session with the irons - even if there were a few wonky hosel rockets with the 7 when I did not stay in the process.  Finished the session with some work with the driver, focused on setup and tempo.
    • Day 195: did a stack session.
    • Day 27 - 40 minutes of chipping work; range was closed this morning. Worked on lofted chips with 58, bump-and-run with 7 and 9 irons.
    • Congratulations.   It sounds like a ton of work but I'm sure it is rewarding.
    • Well now the ordeal is over, and I'm back home.  If anyone is interested in doing one of these workshops, I recommend it, but its a lot of information in a short time frame.  Its been compared to taking a drink of water from a fire hose.  A lot of the "enjoyment" comes from the personalities of the instructors.  In my previous workshops, I've had one instructor who was good, and the other was exceptional.  This time, both instructors were exceptional, as was the "coordinator", who also served as instructor (his first time) for a couple of segments.  You have almost certainly heard each of the instructors on telecasts as the "rules voice", and have quite possibly seen coordinator-Jay on the USGA rules of Golf videos on Youtube and the USGA website.   A nice surprise, I got my exam results in an email earlier today.  I guess it helps that our class was held maybe 300 yards from the USGA satellite office in Pinehurst.  I'm really pleased, I improved on my past performances, and can claim the "Expert" title again.
