I had a short affair with the r7 Superquad and didnt like the results I had at the range and that carried over to the first round of the year last weekend.

So... I went back to my pro-shop and returned it to get a store credit of $400. I want to stick with the TaylorMade brand because I personally love their drivers, but the SQ wasnt for me.

Looked at the Burners, not to appealing on the eyes, and saw a Tour Burner sitting on the rack and hit a few with it and like what I felt. They didnt have any Tour Burner Tp's in the shop but they said that this was a better club for me, obviously they are going to say this because its more money and I would have to shell out another 200 bones to get it.

Was just wondering if anyone has these Drivers in their bags and your opinions on them. I know you cant beat personal feel, but a great testimony wouldnt hurt either.

Also, if you have the TP version of the Tour Burner what shaft did you get with it and why? Choices were if I remember correctly: Matrix XCon 5, Fujikara Rombax 75, Diamana White 65

Thanks for any info, will be checking frequently

Guessing by the abundance of posts this is a popular Driver. I had a little trouble getting through all of them, but more info is still needed.

I tried the burner out and did not like the "feel" of the driver at impact...It is forgiving but you cant really feel the ball compress as much as other drivers ive tried...It has a really lightweight shaft..i just liked the cobra speed ld and superquad over the burner

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Hit the BurnerTP and the CGB today...absolutely loved both of them. I like the look of both heads and both are extraordinarily easy to hit.

Fair enough...I hit about 10 times with each one and did not miss one. I wish it was because I am so great off the tee

, but that is not it. Guess this is why there are so many different drivers out there.

Taylormade's Burner line of drivers is extremely confusing now.
Makes no sense. Do you want the Burner, the Burner TP, the Tour Burner, or the Tour Burner TP? What is the difference in target audience?

couldn't agree more... isn't the TP a tour model... yes it is, but the Tour Burner is what then... oh, we have the Tour Burner TP... WTF

COME ON TAYLOR MADE... this is total BS.

They shouldn't have named the tour burner that. It should have a totally different name. Yeah TP is the tour model.

Whats the difference between the Burner TP and the Tour Burner and the Tour Burner TP?

they are probably going to stop making the r7 superquad which is a shame because that was probably the only club i would buy if i went tm. The superquad is 300$ compared to 400$ a couple months ago so I think the tour burner will be the only option in the taylormade line for low handicappers.

They look completely different but I'm not sure about performance. I'm wondering about the Tour Burner as well. I might go try it today if I can get to Golfsmith. According the Taylormade

website , the Tour Burner is the #1 driver at the Shell Houston Open.

I know they look different, but, like you said, I'm curious about performance. To anyone who has hit them all, it would be gracious of you to post your experience.

I hit with them about 2 weeks ago at golf galaxy's taylormade evening event. The top backend sort of looks like the Nike Sumo with its crescent moon shaped lip, the head wasn't was wide looking as the older burner, but the face looked a bit bigger. I hit with it, felt like any other regular large headed drivers to me. The gg rep goes "you're hitting great with it, let me ring you up right now..."

I ask him, "how much are you guys selling it for?"

His reply, "$400"

I ran away.

I have the tour tp burner version-2, 9.5 bent to 10.2 and 3-degrees open, with a diamana white 73 x-stiff.
i can definately tell the difference between the tp heads and the tour heads. I think the tour models are the best of the bunch out of the tp's, I could be wrong but they do feel more solid. They do make a odd sound at impact, like the head is cracked.
Today i had a drive carry 294y to a short par 4 playing 304, i hit the front of the green and it released to the middle of the green. I tend to hit long flat mid-high bombs with this thing. By far the best driver i have ever had.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
