RAF Pilot was fined £1500 at a court martial this week for flying over the Open Championship at Carnoustie.Marc Rodriguez a keen golfer decided to deviate from his flight plan because he wanted to "take a look at the golf" He flew low over the 10th and 18th hole even dipping his right wing to take a better look! A veteran of the Iraq conflict where he flew DC10's ,refueling planes of coalition forces was also grounded for an undisclosed period.(more time to play golf then)

I heard that back in the 1500's, Mary, Queen of Scots was stoned to death, executed. She was seen as not properly grieving for her husband's death because she was seen playing gowf shortly thereafter.

Wrong. Mary (December 8, 1542 - February 8, 1587 ), was Queen of Scots and briefly, Queen Consort of France ( 1559 -1560 ). Catholic Mary was tried and convicted of teason for plotting to assasinate her Protestant cousin, Elizabeth I. No evidence yet exists, even from that paragon of journalistic virtue, the National Enquirer, that confirms sightings of a headless Mary "gowfing" in the heather or anywhere else, for that matter.

I actually just did a paper on queen Mary of Scots, and she was killed without the allowance of queen Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth's people killed her because they though that Mary had assassination plot against Elizabeth.

I think Lizzie knew all about it - largely because either she or Walsingham (on her behalf) signed her death warrant. She'd been held prisoner in Fotheringay Castle for approaching 20 years and there's no doubt she was plotting to overthrow her cousin. I guess it helped to pass the time on those long winter evenings.

She was renowned as a golfer, though - a fine swinge that smote the ball prodigious distances, as I recall the quote. She played at Royal Musselborough - and so can you! It's still open. She was about six feet tall and rather attractive - kind of a Michelle Wie, but without the hurty wrists. She should have paid more attention to her plotting than her pitching, I think, though. She was beheaded, not stoned to death. Which seems harsh, when all she really fancied was a round of golf with Darnley and maybe a bit of a roll in the hay afterwards. Have I ever been spanked for playing golf? No, but I took a day off work to watch a one-day International cricket match, calling in to assure work I had the lurgi. That explanation was a bit undermined when I appeared on the 6 o'clock news, applauding a century scored by one of the English team... Luckily, it was a summer vacation job.
