Has anyone seen this guy live? Well, I have seen him live and I have played with him. His power is really easy to achieve, but takes great discipline and perfect timing. But I want to hear from you guys that know way way more about the golf swing than I do on this before I tell. I do not want to mess up some young golfers swing based on what I have seen and been told...

without studying his swing a lot it seems like he produces an awful lot of torque with a big shoulder turn, very minimal hip turn. BOOM!!! Again I havent studied his swing or anything this is just from minimal viewing of it.

His hip movement is alot like what Ringer talks about, but with one major exception. Most people would throw their back out if they were to move there hip towards their toe the way he does. Think of actually jumping towards the ball from your tip toes on the downswing with your hips.... Is this making any sense?

so I'm guessing he throws his shoulders around about 95% of his max, and the legs press him fwd and down in a "jumping fwd" way to counter the huge shoulder torque/momentum. . . is that it? I am amazed at what he does.

big forearms......that's the secret.

This is just not true. When I actually pull it off I hit the ball alot further than I normally do. But more than big forearms or timing, it is really more abount balance.

I saw him hit a few drives at the LA (Northern) Open this year. First of all he is shorter (height) than I thought...Probably 5-9 at most even though I see he is listed at 5-10. Nevertheless, his shots flew visibly higher and farther than the other pros. But he swung much harder than the rest of them. Not the graceful tempo you associate with PGA pros. It seems to work for him, but I think his power move is only useful to copy if you can play/practice almost every day.

By the way, saw Bubba Watson playing with DJ Tranahn and Trahan outdrove him with a more controlled swing.

pretty close, but his balance after almost leaping forward at the ball is simply amazing..

He has one win, correct? Which is an accomplishment, no doubt.

I saw him outdrive everyone by about 20 yards on the first hole at the pods champ. But he struggled to get a Par.

Some people can just hit it long, there isn't any real good explanation. Look at Fred Couples, bad back, getting old, still ripping it 315 . . . how? At least Holmes looks like he's trying to hit if far, Couples has no effort in it, it's a mystery.

He was actually paired with Boom Boom on Friday when i saw him, he got Freddy by about 15 yards, and Freddy was one of the longer shots I saw on the hole (watched about 4 groups go though), my oldest son and I were sitting in the landing zone, JB landed it above the sand traps on an upslope. His second shot was off target though.

No doubt JB can smash it. Also.... No doubt that Freddy is just a straight up pimp ...my 2nd favorite golfer.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
    • Day 2, 12/31/25.  Similar to yesterday (rainy, no surprise), I hit primarily 6-iron full swings with the same focus;  I also hit some chips (about 1/8 swing) with the 54.  About two dozen full swings and an equal number of short shots.  All of this was indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls.
